Great fruits although I don't bother growing them here due to my space issue and they are very unreliable in our climate due to that missing magic warmth 😂

Might work in a pot with an overhead trellis, Brett.

I knew it that you are Greek 😂 Cheers from Greece guys ! Mine stay like the unripe for months, how many weeks does it take to ripe ? 🤔

Hi from hot and dry Melbourne in the south and the wet and humid tropics in the north of Australia! Although I've never lived in Greece, I feel 100% Greek, as I was raised by Greek migrant parents. My Pepino stays white all winter, then turn colour in spring. Good luck, file!!

@@RealLifeFruitopia Mine the whole summer were white🤔 trying to understand what's wrong. PS: My parents (greek) born in Aus as well but moved back to greece looong ago😅😅

Pepino is in the Solanaceae family, same as tomato, potato, bellpepper, eggplant, goji and groundcherry.

How do you keep the meditarranean fruit fly at bay? Mine get all stung when still young.
@RealLifeFruitopia15 күн бұрын
No med fly reported in Victoria, but I do get Island fly in oranges and peppers.

The banana 🍌 plants need a lot of water 💦 if they're commercially grown which is why my grandfather used to water them for 3 days per week in stop if there was a lack of rain, you probably don't need to water them that much if you're growing them as a hobby like you & I do. He was all for chemical pesticides & fertilizer which he said yielded him a bigger crop than some of the farmers in his village who were growing them organically !

That’s great to hear from someone who’s actually worked with bananas! Correct, I'm not a commercial grower, so I'm happy to get what comes with rainfall.

I have tried to grow those, unfortunately, the ants get to them, I'm trying another lot, but they aren't looking happy. By the way, they are also tasty if they are dehydrated. They belong to the Solanum genus.

Thanks for the tip about dehydrating them.

This was my first time growing pepino and they were all rotten. Something drilled into them and ants feasting on them 😭 What can I use to stop this?
@frankcarew23917 күн бұрын

Same as tomato

It tastes nothing like a tomato but is in the same family. Tamarillo is more tomato like.

I stopped growing them after Harlequin bug infestations. They suck the juice out of all fruits.
