For some reason I am hard on footware, I've always had this issue during my time in the RAF I ended up buying my own boots because the issue ones just seemed to look at me and fall to bits, fishing and hunting caused me a similar issue.
Because I've destroyed my body over the years I need something that supports my feet and keeps them warm, cold feet will sap the joy out of even the best fishing day. When I blew out my knee I torn some ligaments this made issues where id get cold feet and oh boy I would feel them. Then I had my spinal injury where the vertebrae in the lower lumbar of my back herniated so it causes both nerve pain and muscular pain and the more I damaged my body the worse shape my feet seemed to go, I have proper orthopaedic insoles for my shoes and boots so walking day to do is easier they provide support for fallen arches in the feet. So what does this absolute poo show mean for me when I'm fishing well long and short of it is I need warm feet and I need support for the foot and ankle.
I will offer this Top Tip for free if you are buying waterproof boots for winter buy a size up, I am normally a size 12 boot/shoe so I buy a size 13 welly that way I can wear a thin pair of socks then over them a thicker pair of socks the thin pair absorbs the sweat and the thicker pair just occupies the space between foot and boot what keeps you warm apparently is heating the air gap between foot and boot hence the thick socks.
Other brands of manufacturer make thermal boots and over the years I've worn most of them.
The infamous Skeetex moon boots were good boots they kept my feet warm however they were absolute murder to walk any distance in them and the inner liner smelled like a rotting sheep after wearing them for a long time I used to wash mine and even had replacement inner liners for the boot they all went the same way. If I had to sit in one spot and do nothing IE be on a boat then they would be fine but you cant walk in them.
Skeetex Ultra Lite, these lasted me one winter and the heel split on one of the boots they were cheap and cheerful and I said at the time if I get a year out of them id be happy but they didn’t quite last the year.
MuckBoots, I have a somewhat love hate relationship with Muckboot, I had a pair that last years I wore them fishing and hunting and I got years of use out of them so when it came time to replace them I went right away for another Muckboot this one lasted weeks the seam split and then it was an absolute nightmare to get them replaced the shop I got them from wanted nothing to do with them and Muckboot said go to the shop you bought them from. In the end I caused a stink and got refunded the pennies I spent buying them. Now I don’t have any negative feelings towards Muckboot I even got them for my wife to wear and she loves them to this day. Under Armour Hawg Zilla, with the pennies I got refunded eventually from the Muckboot drama I went with an American import the Under Armour Hawg Zilla, I did a review on this disaster on the channel the links are below needless to say these boots were crap. Also because I got them from America there was zero chance of getting the pennies back so I was with cold feet and out of pocket.
So here we are today lets have a look at the Grubs boot.

Agree about the need for good wellies. Back in the 80s, Uniroyal Hunters were the business and they lasted years. Easy to walk in, durable and great value.....now they are rubbish, expensive and no use for anything other than looking poncy at the pub. Good old fashioned Dunlop boots from our local agricultural store, e16 a pop are my goto boot. Still split after 3 to 6 hard months of use but cheap and waterproof and roomy enough for thick socks. Best durable walking boots again the cheapest from Karrimore , their Mount mid7s. I've tried all brands but these are fairly bulletproof, e50 a go and comfortable. The heels wear on mine long before the laces or uppers.

I'm on my second pair of these boots the first pair having lasted over 5 years of intensive use so really rate them. I'd previously bought muck boots but was lucky to get 2 years out of a pair. Doing a lot of walking carrying my gear the Vibram soles make a big difference to the level of comfort. Hope you have a similar experience.

I'd steer well clear of these boots, I bought a pair a couple of years ago, out of the box they were warm and comfortable, a little too warm if you are active walking over long distances. I put mine away, took them out the next year and they promptly ripped the skin off the back of my ankles after a hundred and fifty meters, very disappointing, they seem to have the problem that the molded plastic around the back of the heel will not hold its original shape for very long bending inwards and needs to be packed out with newspaper (and I mean really rammed in tight) from the get go when put into storage. Now with the snow this year I thought that they would be ok, ok for wearing in the garden but walking out in the country... forget it unless you have very thick socks and a good supply of compeed plasters!

I’ve give up on wellies and just wear either lowa combat gtx or haix ecw goretex boots with merino socks now for bank fishing and vision and orvis breathable waders if I need to get in the water .I tried derri boots for fishing and they leaked within one winter and on the farm have had some aigle that split within weeks and muck boot esks that although warm and comfy were absolutely lethal with the grip , it was like dancing on ice trying to walk round the yard when it was wet . Last straw with them was going ass over tit trying while loading some sheep in to a trailer . Finished work that night and just threw them in the bin after just 10 weeks use , I really wanted to like them because they were comfy but never again . The worst I tried was a pair of regatta that leaked literally within minutes of putting them on . It could be that like you I’m 6.2 and 21 stone but only size 11’s that we put a lot more pressure on footwear but I know people half my weight who have had the same problems with with derri and muck boots leaking

Normally if I'm on a jetty I'll just stick with my boots I've a cheap Merrell pair of boots I use for fishing they are good, I've Altberg boots from when I was in the forces got them in 2008 and they are still on the go, when I deployed I bought Lowe boots because they lasted better in the sandy shitholes. Thing with breathable waders is the seams go on them all the time. I looked into buying custom fitted waders but they were a wee bit expensive and only guaranteed for 12 months.

@@DavidScobie my visions lasted a good few years before they leaked round the bollocks and made it look like I’d pissed myself after taking them off but I’ve sorted that and my orvis are still going strong but I don’t use them sitting on a chair , just for fly ,lure and stick float fishing so I’ve probably not put a lot of pressure on the seems

Missed a comedy comment "smelt like a rotting sheep, pretty bad" shudda said "pretty baaaaaaaaa'd" lol. On a serious note dont go fishing lower lough erne as i saw at least a dozen nets set along the shores and islands when out on boat trolling with only small jacks caught, wonder where the bigger pike were, sigh and why?!!
