just got a free aluminum canoe, love the paint job on yours, I might haveta take the ww2 fighter plane theme and go with it.

Is it a Grumman? I mean, they did make warbirds!
@KC0GRN10 күн бұрын
@robdude1969 sadly no, it's a smokecraft. But for the price, I have no complaints. I would guesstimate it's a bit heavier than yours, judging from the inner construction. The previous owner handr used it since at least 2006, so it's very dirty, but structurally sound. It's a bit late in the season for major stuff this year, but I'm looking forward to spring.

I just bought a really old and scratched Linder inkas Aluminium canoe. Looks very much like your Grumman. I'm planning to fix it up for fishing and family trips! I'm hoping it will last generations aswell. Good video!

Great video. I just started repainting a 1960 Grumman 17ft canoe I found on Craigslist. It was baby blue and got a coating of primer today. I was on the fence about using metallic paint until I watched your restoration.
@robdude19694 жыл бұрын
It just looks right in my opinion. you may want to paint the floor a different color because it's bright. have fun!

soooooo...i have that same boat and would never actually think of painting it (except maybe the inside a light blue), but, dang, that boat looks sharp with the silver paint job. how dare you tempt me to do that! anywho, my kids (teenagers now) have spent their lives paddling my boat...and here in florida, we have a plastic alligator that rides up front on outings. after seeing your duck tagging along, i might get a plastic alligator head to tie up behind the boat now also.

I love it! They have radio controlled alligator heads as well. You HAVE to get one!!!

Honestly best guide I've seen! I'm about to re do the 16ft flat back I bought from my uncle for $200.(Rated for up to a 5hp) What was the paint that you used again?

Lerch Gaming I have a 15’ flat back eagle too! You are going to love it. So stable! I put links in the video description. Good luck with your restoration!

I have a 55lb trolling motor and a 100W solar panel I hook up to the battery to make sure I can go all day. Its wonderful and I love how light these canoes are compared to fiberglass etc.
@robdude19694 жыл бұрын
Tell me about the recharge rate on that panel. Is it noticeable? It sounds great. Like why doesn’t every electric car have solar on the roof too?

Awesome story! I used to live in Alaska a while ago, always love the canoes. Also neat to know how Grumman made the boats. I wonder if the also made the US mail trucks.

same Grumman. They made awesome airplanes too!

Update I was able to order 1 can of the same paint and now I can't find anymore. However 1 can was perfect to do 2 coats. It came out exactly as in your video!!! I also let it dry for 2 days between coats at 22c. Today I also went and picked up a set of oars for it as well! Only question is can you do a clear coat over this paint and if so what would you recommend? (Took a week to restore with letting paint dry)
@robdude19694 жыл бұрын
I have never clear coated this paint... let us know if you do. Be sure it's going to match... some paints won't stick well on the oil base.
@MarineFlipper4 жыл бұрын
@@robdude1969 I've let it dry for 3 days and noticed it seems to rub off a bit so im going to see if a clear coat will prevent that. I just have a spray can of gloss clear coat I might try. Did you find yours runs off at all?
@MarineFlipper Жыл бұрын
Mine didn't come off thankfully!!!!! Came out beautifully!!!!. Bought it for $400 and spent a week sanding/painting. Sold for $1500 :) Was a great project to do.
