I haven't watched anything from game grumps for almost a year at this point, but this series of podcasts has been really powerful. Hearing about Danny's struggle with his music, Suzy's relationship with Arin, and Brian balancing entertainment with his passion for science--there's something here that's relatable to anyone. You guys are a great group of people, never stop being you. Making content constantly can be a real grind sometimes, but those few moments where you really inspire and connect with your audience make it all worth it.

As a journalist, Arin Hansen TERRIFIES me. Especially since I was taught to start interviews off on small questions that CLEARLY the answer is out there, but it's to get the interviewee more comfortable and also make the narrative fit within the media so that you don't have to source outside of your work. Also I thought Arin's appearance on Philip DeFranco's podcast was great. It was an excellent time.

I relate deeply to Arin on the subject of creativity. When I was clinically depressed (but didn't know it), I wrote and wrote and wrote and wrote. But I didn't eat, I didn't sleep, and everything was really terrible. Now that I'm in remission, I don't write as much, but now I'm happy. And I'm okay with trading one for the other. I'm healing. I'm allowed time to heal. I don't owe anybody anything. I'll create when I want to create--not just because I'm desperate for love and attention.

People in the comments are saying stuff like "oh man remember when Arin said he was working on Metal Gear Awesome 5?" Like... You guys do realize animation takes a long ass time to work on? I went to college for 3 months majoring in Digital Media and Animation, and when I finally got to animate I only ever worked on 2 things: a stop motion abstract animation and a stop motion clay animation. It took me around I'd say 2-3 hours to animate the abstract animation, which was 12 seconds long. The claymation was about 42 seconds but the animation itself involving clay was 18 seconds long. It took like 4 hours to make it. The thing is Arin is so fucking talented and experienced. You know he's going to make the backgrounds and probably color it unless Suzy does that for him. He has to make a storyline and write the jokes and record voices, which granted voice acting takes much less time but it just adds to the process. I've done almost all of the stuff involved in an animation and it's very time consuming. He's doing all of it. Just because he said he started working on it doesn't mean oh man one week later it's done. As much as I wish he would make animations I know he hasn't been as interested and Game Grumps is like a job now. Give the guy a break.

I can't imagine people being mad at KZbin content creators for making any amount of money! I mean, it's not like we pay to watch KZbin videos (for the vast majority). I'd be overjoyed that someone can make as much as possible doing something they hopefully enjoy, for hopefully little effort. That stigma and resentment just doesn't make sense to me!
@bigyikes79658 жыл бұрын
fucking feminist I'm sorry don't kill me 😓
@JonFawkes8 жыл бұрын
I think it mostly comes from people who on some level are maybe jealous of those creators being successful. Or maybe it's from the exact culture you mentioned, that the viewer doesn't directly pay for the content, so they don't understand why anyone would. Or maybe it's the mindset of "it's fun therefore you shouldn't get paid for it". Lots of people in the world, lots of haters
@RealCadde8 жыл бұрын
I can get it... It's when people start doing stuff for money that the soul comes out of everything they make. It's made to make money rather than because they wanted to make it. Arin even says this in the interview... It's not FUN anymore and some people catch onto that in the work being released. For example, i LOVE metal gear awesome. The awesome reach episode was fun and all but not even close to the comedic quality that metal gear awesome had. And it can be seen in GameGrumps too... Videos are constantly being "sanitized" and made into exactly 10 minutes and change episodes. They don't play games to the end but constantly change games. There's a lot of sponsored shit going on (albeit, pretty funny but still) and it's not just two guys playing games raging at the game and each other any more... It's more a "Here's our professional goofy channel... Please subscribe". Sometimes i do miss the old GameGrumps days when it was more from the heart... Even though i hated Jon.
@Windaros8 жыл бұрын
crashinator1 Well, people can change their mind. Subscribe banners are part of the KZbin culture, and it works. It's no wonder they incorporated one.

I'd say you're right about the minimum wage/low paying jobs part. Low paying jobs obviously require you to spend more time doing the job to make decent (if not still terrible) money. While Arin and danny I find funny, I can't help but chuckle a bit when painfully uninteresting let's players and streamers throw up their patreons asking for people to tip them so they can keep playing games for a living. but hey, who am I to say no?

I like how Suzy's interview was like all about Arin and how much they love each other and in this Suzy isn't even brought up

She realized it and now there relationship is ruined. Thank you *makes that one hand move*

Ralf Stein Jr arin, what are you trying to tell us?
@shannonglenn80488 жыл бұрын
Ralf Stein Jr Suzy's was very personal life based and Arin's is very career based. I honestly wished it was a little more personal in this one, I would've liked to hear more about Arin's life
@Nick949568 жыл бұрын
Ralf Stein Jr This isn't a knock on either Suzy or Arin, but I think Suzy's is more personal because she seems like she had a tougher early life than Arin did.

Nick94956 Yeah I absolutely agree actually, just thought it was funny is all

o_0 Oh my gosh I had NO IDEA Egoraptor did DBZ in a nutshell! I've had that saved to my computer for YEARS!!!

Arin, you recorded some voices for a script I wrote way back in the day, for an animation I was going to do. I never did get around to animating it and the jokes I wrote would be very dated today. Still, it was a pleasure to briefly work with you.

I wish there is a 2nd part because Arin has a lot more to say, like, we heard everyone else's life but we barely scratched the surface with Arin, I think Jon has to interview him again and Arin should interview Jon. That would make me incredibly happy.

there should be like 'childhood grumps' where all the grumps get videos/pictures/toys etc. from their childhood and just talk about it in front of a camera. I am curious to see the animations that Arin did when he was young.

DBZ in a nutshell was such a staple of my childhood. Game Grumps is a staple of my adulthood and I've discovered Arin's involvement in so many things I loved throughout my life!

I remember DBZ in a Nutshell, i didn't know you (Arin) made that... awesome! I also remember Metal Gear Awesome in high school and I could quote back to my friends. We all loved it back then. I also loved Weird Al parodies back as a kid like in middle school, haha!
