Thanks for your Update, I got mine one year ago and its fine, no issues with Power at all. I use it once or twice a week. Its my favourite watch and it has not lost its attention for me, I love it like on the first day. For me the perfect G shock ever, a Japanese Masterpiece.

In my experience with solar powered G-Shocks, what causes these drains is the auto light function. Just turn it off and you will have no problem at all.

With a full charge the watch should have a power reserve of over TWENTY MONTHS. What is the charge reported before you store it? A few hours in the sun won't fully charge the watch from even half power. Given how you store it and that you wear it occasionally but are still having issues with power, I think there is something wrong with your watch.

I wear mine for 1 year now. 0 issues. I have the golden too and the recrystalized 40th silver. 0 issues... These are beater watches... daily and they hold above any Rolex Schmolex divers... also they hold well in harsh conditions... Japanese #masterpiece ❤

Solution is simple. Wear the steel G more, the resin G ( not vinyl) less. The steel G deserves to be worn, it is great.

I have an older Casio Solar Atomic and it required a lot of charging in the sun, rarely reaching high charge. I ran it that way for over 10 years, and eventually it would hardly get to medium level so I replaced the battery. Now it charges to high and thus the battery was always the problem. If I were you I'd get a new battery and an LED watch charger and whenever it gets down to medium or low give it a night on the lower level in the LED charger, or a day in the sun. Avoid getting the watch hot which the LED on high may get too warm, and full direct sun may also be too hot. But keep charging it till it registers high and make sure power save is on, then it will survive storage better.

I’m sure you have already figured this out but if you get it up to full charge it should maintain a charge as kind as you want. Once fully charged and you wear it at least once per month, like I do, you will always have enough charge.

I have the black metal version of this watch. Regarding scratches, the black version fares better due to its DLC (Diamond Like Carbon) coating over the metal that the silver and gold coloured versions do not have. Regarding solar charged batteries: make sure to fully charge them up to max when you first get them (good new battery policy in general, solar or not). It may take several days or more to initially charge but be easy maintenance after that provided the power save is on and auto light is off (as others have mentioned). I am also modding an old 5600bb (with negative display) with an aged metal mod kit version of my watch. It’s a cheap mod (when discounted at least) and the aged “old gun metal” look should go well with casual clothes (jeans and T-shirt etc. The shiny black one is fine with a more sophisticated look. The best of the resin watches price/performance wise is probably the 5610u (“u”presumably standing for “updated”). The module (3495) in those has everything that is in their more expensive full metal brethren except Bluetooth. Great “everything” watch unless your lifestyle requires more formal attire. Lastly, one negative about the metal G-Shock squares is the low volume of the alarm/alert sounds. This is probably due to the combination of heavier, locking back and metal body and bezel. Having said all that, my black metal G-Shock still gets a lot of wrist time. If you’re into G-Shock squares you will appreciate the step up in class.

I have a couple of tough solar/ multiband 6 g shocks (looking at getting one of these in the gmw b5000 range) I just keep them on a windowsill in a spare room when not in use. They always have full power and recieve atomic clock radio signal nightly.

You hate solar for your purposes? Just don't store it in a dark place. It's not so difficult. Also i saw a beat up B5000 and it looked awesome. So no need to worry about scratches at all.

I keep mine in a Southern facing window sill and it is always fully charged, even if I haven’t touched it for months. As others have mentioned, the power reserve is many months if fully chaeged when you put it away.

Good evening Paul, The Casio G-Shock Full Metal Square is an aesthetically attractive timepiece. I do find it to be rather expensive. I own mostly automatic and manual wind wristwatches. I do however own a Citizen "Ecozilla." This beast-of-a-watch uses Citizen's Eco-drive system. Once fully-charged, said diver will remain charged for several months, even if I store it in a location absence of light. Your channel is maturing, and you are doing a great job! Keep ty up.

I'm from Malaysia and I collect and mods watches too but just g shock, since 1988...with a dozens of solars. I dont wear those casually and most of them in the box minimum 2-3 months. No issue at all. And FYI...u can always block the solar panel charges so that u can use it with normal batt.

Hmm...I own 6 GMWB5000 variants, keep them in the gun safe, and I don't have charging problems with any of them. When I grab one from the safe, it immediately "wakes up," and upon connecting to the G-Scock App, they have at least half, if not a full charge. Each watch will sit for 3-6 weeks at a time. To charge, just put the watch on an indoor window sill facing the sun every now and then.

I think I finally fixed the issue thanks to a followers comments. Looks like it was constantly searching for a Bluetooth connection & burning the battery down doing so 24/7. Haven’t had the problem now since addressing it. At $500 plus x 6, a gun safe is definitely a good idea for storage! Thanks for checking out the video 🙏

Good Point. I have 5 solar G Shocks incl the metal square but never had a issue. Activate the power save function (PS) and deactivate auto light. My issue with this watch: it's a touch too blingy.I totally love it, it's my favourite watch, but i don't wear it often because it's too cool and funky.

Great video. I had the same problem. I wanted to love it, but I hated the fact that it couldn't keep a charge (also had a hard time receiving Multi6 signal. It was pathetic. You're telling me for $400, Casio can't make a watch that keeps a charge better than a calculator from the 70s? Anyways, I sent it back to Casio under warranty. Free of charge they replaced the module and seals. It has been flawlessly holding charge since (had it about a month). Make sure you don't ever connect to Bluetooth, because doing so will make the watch constantly search in the background for that Bluetooth connection (wastes battery). I wanted the ultimate pick-up-and-go beater, and I couldn't believe how Casio flubbed it initially. Maybe they had a bad batch of modules. After the repair, all is well. Even if it's out of warranty, I believe replacing the module is around 100 bucks. Worth it if you want the steel to work like it should. Thanks for the video. Nobody else has touched on this problem before

Good advise! Also, I checked and it IT on constant Bluetooth so that may be the culprit. Thank-you for that advise. I’ve disconnected the Bluetooth for now to see what that results in. Thanks for watching my channel and offering up a solution! 🙏
@e28forever303 жыл бұрын
@ Dime Piece Timepiece: You are wrong about the Bluetooth. It tries to connect a couple of times each day, at fixed times. When an attempt is unsuccessful, it will skip it and wait until the next scheduled connection. After. A certain amount of missed connections, it reverts to Multiband 6. It’s as simple as that. Bluetooth is certainly not a cause for battery drain. In my experience, tough solar watches need quite some time to get fully charged, I have a GW-6900 which I got secondhand, it was on mid level and it took almost a week to get it effectively fully charged. Sometimes during that week it would read “full”, only to fall back to “ medium” when operating it. ( stopwatch, timer…)

I've got a bluetooth square that's been sitting in a dark drawer for over 6 months. It uses bluetooth to sync since I live in Australia where there's no atomic towers. I checked the charge recently and it was at about 60%, having dropped from near full when it first went in the drawer. When wearing it as normal the battery is always fully topped up. These solar charging watches are impressive. In my experience, activating the auto light feature and then wearing it when sleeping drains the battery a bit faster than usual due to movements during sleep.

I would say replace the capacitor. WHY ? Approx. battery operating time: 10 months on rechargeable battery (operation period with normal use without exposure to light after charge) 22 months on rechargeable battery (operation period when stored in total darkness with the power save function on after full charge)
@looplop2 жыл бұрын
It really needs to be fully charged by sunlight before you can rely on the power save etc. I've had may solar watches no issue at all. Place it by the window every now and then.

I do agree on why they made it solar and not Quartz, but at the same time this watch is only for the people who either have a 2-3 watch collection and you’re gonna keep the rotation frequently. I personally love the bluetooth featured the accurate time still the Gold being a eye catcher and you can easily be a target which it’s its downside living in Chicago.

As I think I said, it would drain in spite of being in full light when not being worn & even when worn. Turned out to be an actual manufacturing issue that was known and subsequently addressed & corrected via Gshock but since you gave a Ferris Beuler reference, I’ll let the condescension slide. Lol

Hi so you solve this battery issue by not connecting it to bluetooth? And bluetooth is the main reason of depleting ur battery life?
@WristwatchAddiction3 жыл бұрын
As far as I can tell, I turn my phone’s Bluetooth on and off a lot & that for some reason had the watch always searching for a signal. Or atleast that’s what it seems to have been because once I recharged it and used the Bluetooth to set all functions then disconnected it, I haven’t had any battery depletion at all. Weird I know but that seem to have “fixed” whatever it was doing before. 🤷♂️
@roychoopheifong41663 жыл бұрын
I see. What i did previously always unpair and delete the apps afterwards, as I don’t really use bluetooth function. The battery seems holding very well. I left it inside watch box for 1 month and it never flash low batt when i pick it up.

@michaelkaliski76512 жыл бұрын
The battery life is adversely affected by allowing it to fully discharge. In order to fully charge the battery it may take a couple of days exposure to full, direct sunlight, outdoors. a fully charged battery should keep the watch running in power save mode for up to two years with no exposure to light. I conclude that you have and are mismanaging the charge technique and misunderstand daylight saving time and how to set the watch. An accurate assessment of the battery charge and automatic time setting is available by connecting via Bluetooth to a mobile phone using the Casio app. Completely unjustified criticisms based on poor understanding of how to operate the watch and failure to read and understand the manual.

As I mention in my SOTC video up just last week when I get to this specific watch. I did have issues with it and those issues WERE my own shortcomings on not having it set up and charged properly and have since been corrected with no further issues. So yes. I’d say your comments above are, well, not wrong 👍

After i put it on the hand i use it for 1 and a half year. Works excelent and i get some scratches on the clasp only. I work in hard environments as a seaman and realy it hold preaty good as the only scratch is only on the clasp. I jus whase it with the tooth brush and is like new.
