Cleaning is always on the list of ToDo's, so I get a little done whenever I can. The result is amazing, though, so I always feel good when more and more parts of the radio start to look done.
However, the good bits cannot be ignored. Re-capping and checking the RF stages was on the list as well, so that got done too.
An alignment of the IF for the AM bands gave the set a bit more selectivity, and finally, we get to see the results in a reception test.
Enjoy, and stay safe.

Meticulous restoration Manuel. When you were talking about cleaning the knobs, I was thinking "I wonder in he put them in the dishwasher" lol. Thanks again for another great video.

Don’t worry. I have begun to know how much I don’t know myself :) Mr Carlson’s lab is great as he has a very methodical way of presenting the subject. My channel is more random and unorganised. My knowledge is also a long way below the level that he is at.

This is just really great. Both interesting and entertaining at the same time. This set is turning into a beauty. I normally work on stuff from the 70's and 80's, but your videos makes me want to try something more oldschool. Thanks for sharing.

It was great to hear this running again. There seems to be a decent amount of sensitivity in the AM bands. You've done a fantastic job making this look almost as good as new again, not to mention working just as good, if not better.

It is quite sensitive, especially on MW and LW in the evenings.

I have used fishing line for dial cord on several occasions, and with good results. I use the braided variety (Fireline or similar brand). It has very low elasticity and tremendous strength

I recently found your channel which I greatly enjoy, especially as I had a Portuguese South African friend in the Algarve, also an engineer. I was particularly interested in the Counterpoint MOSFET amplifier as I was given one of the first MOSFET (VFET) amplifiers to come on the market, a Sony TA-4650. I made it work for while, but the special Sony transistors were expensive and I gave up and put another power amplifier in the Sony case. I like repairing stuff, but I am not in your division. To pass time at the moment I have been repairing a few old oscilloscopes (1980s), mostly transistorised, but one had a few valves. You can still get NOS valves here in France. Reparing and restoring venerable, quality equipment is satisfying, although it is very time consuming and I don’t have your meticulous patience for restoration. Tiro o chapéu

I've never tackled scope repairs, but will try one sometime. This hobby is very time-consuming, so efficiency is not an issue. Patience is ... which sometimes is in short supply. I usually love having time at home to do my stuff, but being forced to is another matter. Stay well, and enjoy the hobby. Regards form Madeira.

Question from a novice. I have successfully followed your advice on ‘painting’ continuity on the circuit diagram and found it to be very helpful. However what can I do when I come across a capacitor? Is there any way to prove that the circuit continues unbroken? I have seen Shango using audio from his phone?? I have a small audio generator, could I use this (with a speaker) to prove the circuit beyond the capacitor? Lynton

Very nice! Despite the tedium you sure do nice work cleaning your radios! About using acetone, I've not tried it yet because I don't have a painted chassis ready to try it on, but it occurs to me that plain old nail polish remover might make a good cleaning agent. The stuff I get is mostly a mixture of acetone and IPA. The IPA is there to dilute the acetone which would be too strong on the fingers if used straight. I use it as a toner transfer medium for making one-off circuit boards. These days it is hard to find IPA in the stores but if used carefully on chassis parts only, nail polish remover might make a good substitute.
@electronicsoldandnew
@electronicsoldandnew 4 жыл бұрын
Correct. Nail polish remover is in fact a better choice as it is weaker. In fact, if I could weaken it even more I would so that the process is slower and more controlled.

Very good work with the scale rope. Which input impedance has the antenna input on LW, Shortwave and Middlewave? On UKW , if i remember right, it's 240 Ohms?
@electronicsoldandnew
@electronicsoldandnew 4 жыл бұрын
I’m not sure. It varies depending on the frequency band, which makes the IF trap adjustment a little pointless, unfortunately, as the signal was coming from the signal generator with a 50 ohm impedance.
@alfredneumann4692
@alfredneumann4692 4 жыл бұрын
@@electronicsoldandnew I guess, there is a missunderstandig. I don't ask abt the if-trap. That was clear. I only would like to know the input-impedance of the antenna-inputs (on the backside of the radio). And keep yourself and your family save.
@electronicsoldandnew
@electronicsoldandnew 4 жыл бұрын
I checked the back. The FM is stated at 240 ohms as you’d said, but there is no indication on the AM antenna.

That is looking very nice. I have a question if I may. I got an old signal generator , its a C.I.T k24 that I have no clue if it works because it was at a junkyard. Looks as new inside and fairly decent outside. Is an osciloscope the way to go on checking its working operation and calibration? Thank you :)
@electronicsoldandnew
@electronicsoldandnew 4 жыл бұрын
It’s a fairly simple circuit, and strictly speaking you don’t need a scope, but it would help. You’ll need to measure exact frequency, so a frequency counter would do. By the way, I didn’t know that they’d made these in Portugal. Nice.

My father in lawn told me that these were sold as a kit at the time he was taking his electronics technician course. So a frequency counter... I'll figure something out when the time comes. Thanks again :)
