Really very useful thanks. Just took delivery of a YB from Germany. It's in a lovely condition but I didn't know how to get to the mains plug. I had put new batteries in and was expecting the plate to come off like the battery compartment. It wouldn't move and, having no manual, I didn't realised it slid. If I hadn't seen your video, I bet I'd have snapped something trying to get in.

As I write I'm just at the stange of polishing it up, all looking as beautiful as it can. And as you know, radios sound much better when they are shiny :)

Oh it does make a big difference in the sound quality! Boss I had years ago said to always clean the equipment cause even if it didn't work very good the customer always think it does if it is clean and shiny. LOL.

Nice little fix of the battery eliminator. The ones I repaired recently were 1000uF @ 16v. to be honest you could sling any cap you like in the unit and it will work. Funny with those other caps too, different manufacturers... pars bin scrapings maybe. Looking forward to part 2.

Well George, I may have repaired it but that 100R resistor..... It might not have been a good value to choose!

Yes,it's far too high.A transistor radio can draw up to 100mA and then you'll loose 10V...

Andrew, have you a video on how to change the bulb in one of these? Thank you for showing us your vids, it’s a pleasure watching you re-create.

If I recall you can just lift the white holder out and change the bulb, it's a 7 volt thing from memory, could be wrong!

Wow that rectifier had a bad day,They give of a horrible onion smell when they fail and white smoke in my experience. Like electing a new pope ! . I like the shield around the transformer very nice feature. Thanks for sharing regard Chris.

Thanks Chris, yes I've heard the stories about Selenium rectifiers though never had the up close and personal experience of one going :) I did get it thankyou but didn't realise it was from you!! Regards - Andrew

Great video. I have exactly the same radio. Changed the caps as you did plus had to do some re wiring around the connector for the power supply. The radio works fine, but if I leave it isolated from the mains for a week or so, AM, LW, and SW don’t work though FM is fine. If I touch (when the radio is switched on) virtually any part of the circuit board with the blade of a screwdriver or my finger (just touch not push) then all bands come to life. I built a regulated PSU for it which works fine. I have reflowed quite a lot of the circuit board but with no luck. Any suggestions would be most appreciated.

Hi Lynton, that certainly sounds like a dry joint in the AM section, may be a broken resistor though I'd expect that more in something like a valve set that gets really warm. Intermittent faults are the worst! have you checked those fine wires coming off the ferrite rod? Cheers - Andrew

Andrewausfa Hi Andrew. Thanks for the reply and the suggestions which I will give a try after the festivities are over. Perhaps the answer is to keep using it lol. I think I will reflow all the board in the end. I do like the radio and the sound is quite good. Thanks for the great videos, keep them coming. Cheers Lynton

Nice set that Andrew - and coming together electrically. That 3W resistor is awfully close to the plastic case, is there any other way to mount it, with a small heatsink fitted? Looking forward to the next Ausfa video as always!
@Andrewausfa
@Andrewausfa 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Paul, yes they are just not great on the cosmetic engineering! That 3W resistor should only be handling a maximum power of just under a watt, 9V* 100mA (max, I think 75mA on FM) so shouldn't be getting too warm. I've had the power unit on soak - more on that later - and it only gets mildly warm. Regards - Andrew

Hello Andrew, i have the same radio (silver fronted variant) and the speaker distorts or muffles somewhat on strong signals, more than normal.. any idea what it could be? on FM i have to have the push pull treble out on the tinniest sound to prevent it.. i haven't opened up the radio

Hello, i have a yacht boy 205a but without the alimentation for sector. Do you know if there is a product number and if its possible to found one ? I think no but maybe possible to use a modern one and maybe adapt it. Nice video and good work !

Hi, circuit is available on Radio Museum, I think that has alignment instructions or do you mean the dial needle?

I am Doug, never fear :) Luckily not any soldering to do on the front of the 'chassis' so the dreaded 'ping' is lessened.
