Of all the leading man types who rose to fame during the Golden Age of Hollywood, American-Australian actor Errol Flynn might just be the most famous - or infamous. Known equally for his knack for adventurous, swashbuckling roles and his unmistakable charm, the devilishly handsome star would become synonymous with many of his era's most notorious clichés. Most notably, he boasted a lifestyle centered around flagrant womanizing and heavy drinking. It would be this lifestyle - and the resulting effect that it had on his health - that would ultimately lead to the promising actor's death in 1939 at only 50 years old. But what ended up taking his life in the end? There are the tragic details found in Errol Flynn's autopsy report.

Flynn's career was not all that affected by the scandal of the statutory rape charges. Major box office hits that starred Flynn after the scandal include San Antonio, Silver River, The Adventures of Don Juan. High production costs ate into the profits for Flynn's films. As the audience dwindled for the sort of escapist entertainment that Flynn's filmsusually offered, Warner Brothers canceled his contract, and he found work in films of variable quality. But Flynn continued as a major leading man for years after the scandal and the trial.

It was that his image was no longer taken seriously after the rape trial, he was seen as somewhat of a joke, only his late career in supporting roles reminded people that he could in fact, act.

He loved animals and according to his daughter would bring home animals from the movies, horses, dogs etc., to his sprawling home on mulholland drive. On the set of " charge of the light brigade" they were using trip wires for the horses and some were killed, Errol protested loudly over this. Love him for that. Someone wrote very damaging things about him according to his daughter which affected his career but she said in those days thats what journalists did "slanderous accusations " that nothing could be done about. ❤

Flynn's best picture by far is "Uncertain Glory" which his company produced and is a very serious film about redemption and is an excellent picture, deep and interesting. Much better than his earlier pictures it is like "Crime & Punishment" the Dostoievski novel. He did recover from the trial as another comment says and he went on to make some quite interesting pictures like "The Big Boodle" and Mara Maru" in which he plays divided characters ." Robin Hood" - "The Seahawk" are good but for a younger generation but for mature audiences "Uncertain Glory" is the deep, real Flynn. I liked a lot of your pictures which I had not seen before. “The Adventures of Robin Hood,” for which he deserved at least an Oscar nomination. But you can’t leave out “The Sea Hawk” or “The Adventures of Don Juan.” And his versatility is on display in “They Died With Their Boots On,” “Gentleman Jim,” “That Forsyte Woman,” and “The Sun Also Rises.” And, in “Too Much, Too Soon,” he even has a Shakespearean moment (with the battle cry from “Henry V”). Furthermore, he displayed his song-and-dance abilities in his cameo in “Thank Your Lucky Stars.” An underrated actor, and one who left us a fine body of work despite his personal foibles.

Probably Flynn, in Robin Hood shown the brightest in this his greatest film. And the man who helped him with all of the Archery stuff was Howard Hill, the greatest archer of all time. Howard Hill taught, and coached Errol Flynn for his performances, and Hill did ALL of the trick archery shots, yes every one of them. If you want to learn about a real man, true blue, and a real gentleman, who was also the greatest Archer of all time, then read up on Howard Hill. Best of luck to all, Dr. George Whitehead

I love Errol Flynn because he didn't give a damn about his health or reputation or anything and he led a man's life, doing the most incredible and dangerous things in his earlier days without thought to his life and as said, the women literally threw themselves at him and if he did go with 17 year olds, big deal, they were the ones begging for his attention, by 50 years old his body was broken and it showed but he didn't complain , compared to the pussies today who are supposedly actors and health fanatics and woke geniuses, he was a real man of action who was never going to make old bones, Tom cruise, Brad Pitt, DiCaprio, Travolta, etc, YUK, no thanks
