The Eagles were one of the most successful bands of the rock era, and the royalties are still very much rolling in. Several of the bands classic members are still alive and active, and it's always possible that some version of the band could appear on a stage near you someday soon. If you weren't alive during their heyday, you probably know some of their songs from the radio at the grocery store. In reality, the Eagles were among the biggest bands of all time, and conquered the world on multiple occasions. This is the untold truth of the Eagles.

Just another power play by Glenn Frey. Meisner came to hate him. Bernie Leadon ended up hating him. Don Felder definitely hated him. Glenn Frey might have started the band, he might have had a good voice and helped write some great songs, but fueled by cocaine and ego, he was a dick, and was the reason the Eagles broke up in the first place.

@@davidlephew2779 ummm… no. Until Frey engineered Felder’s firing from the band, Felder and Walsh had been close friends. Felder actually drove Walsh to rehab in 1994. Walsh repaid Felder by siding with Henley and Frey in the dispute. Musically, Felder had welcomed the opportunity to have a rock god guitarist like Walsh in the band. Bernie Leadon was a nice guy, but as a lead guitarist he wasn’t in Walsh’s league.

Gladiator had just come out on DVD and I was not expecting to fall in love with the eagles. And there it was, the African drums began, bom pada bom pada bom. Felder comes in on the guitar. It was instantly one of my favourite songs as a 12 yo. Then the more I played New Kid In Town I realise this is right there too. I think the reason is Don Henley’s Vocals- In one he leads whilst playing drums (quite a feat in itself)& in the other his vocals come in over & blend unbelievably with Glens voice to form “one voice” whilst playing drums. Like him or Loathe him the guy is a poetic genius and his voice is seriously special!. To me the Eagles would be very, very average without him. His solo career proved that. With the exception of Timothy B Schmidt the others are all average or less vocalists. This is why to this day Felder has always stated that even though he desperately wanted to sing a few songs (Witchy Woman, Those Shoes, HC) he fully understood & accepts why Henley sang them. (I respect him immensely for that).

As a life long fan of the Eagles, I watched this video to see if there was anything I didn't already know about the band, and as I figured, nothing was "new" news to me. Yet I found all the information here accurate; the good, the bad, and the ugly..... The Eagles story was encapsulated truthfully, and I applaud that. I however have one comment about the Eagles Rock&Roll Hall of Fame indoctrination. I've read where Randy Meisner's guitar was not plugged in (purposely), he had to just play along on stage. Whose idea was that? That was incredibly disrespectful to the man who wrote and sang one of their biggest hits "Take It To The Limit".
@ingfig1
@ingfig1 2 жыл бұрын
Yes, I read about that too. I believe it was Frey’s idea. He also directed Randy and Bernie to stand at far right and far left of the stage, respectively, as if they were in the wings of the stage - like session musicians, not really part of the band - and out of the central camera shot! I Such disrespect shown to them, except by Timothy Schmit who acknowledged (at the induction speeches) Randy’s part in the success of the band. Also, during the performances, Timothy often looked at Randy thereby *including* him. I saw Randy singing with heart, even tho his instrument was unplugged. I suspect that Bernie’s instrument was also unplugged at the RnRHOF induction, but that Bernie didn’t know it - at one point in their rendition of Take It Easy, Bernie moved over to the equipment to fiddle with it, then looked at Frey with daggers in his eyes. Bernie had to stand there playing a (probably) muted instrument, while Joe Walsh hammed it up playing the lead riffs that *Bernie* had written, and with his back to Bernie - I would have expected Joe to face Bernie and play *with* him, to acknowledge Bernie’s authorship of those leads. During their second song, Bernie turned the tables. - he beckoned Randy to join him at centre stage, behind Glen’s back and under Henley’s nose, and the two of them hammed it up as if they were playing live instruments! I loved that! They seemed to be having such fun! Bernie had written all the iconic music for their first all-Eagles hit, Witchy Woman, and had also written and played on their first FIVE albums. Randy had written the first Eagles million seller, and had played and sang on their first SIX albums. Don Felder joined Eagles in 1974, shortly before Bernie left, but the band was already quite successful before him. However, both Joe Walsh and Timothy Schmit joined a band that was already successful - they were not in the trenches, tirelessly touring and playing gigs to build their rep, like Randy and Bernie were. Barely two years after Randy left, Eagles broke up,for 14 years - and when they got back together there were few albums of new material - basically Eagles became a cover band doing re-runs of the hits from the first 6 albums - from when Randy and Bernie were in the band. Despite that, both Randy and Bernie were not included in the Kennedy Centre honors induction - that was not right.

Bernie came from group The Flying Burrito Brothers with ex-Byrds Chris Hillman and Gram Parsons who were considered pioneers in fusing rock, blues, soul and especially country into a unique genre all its own. It would pretty much define the laid back Southern California ethos for at least the first half of the decade. Interesting side note: Burrito Gram Parsons had befriended Keith Richards while on tour with The Byrds during their stay in the UK. He gave Gram "Wild Horses" which the Burritos covered nearly a year before The Stones released their own work. He would go on to release two critically acclaimed solo albums before dying of a drug overdose in Joshua Tree National Park in 1973 at the age of twenty six.

It kinda stuck out since she was listening to a lot of Motown, Elvis and other artists from back in the day during that time. I never thought much of it. I never really heard my mother play it when I was in the car. Then suddenly in my little corner of the universe in the spring of 2001 the song Hotel California became somewhat ubiquitous. I heard it everywhere. I really couldn't complain, because listening to that was better than some of the other options at the time. Cosmic coincidence? Regardless I bought Greatest Hits Vol. 2 so I could jam out to Hotel California, as well as sample some other songs through the summer. I couldn't get enough of it at the time. I gradually came to like most of their music. It must have been a hell of a time seeing them live at the time.

Amazingly talented group of musicians from the original members to the most recent ones. I just wish Don Henley would quit taking every video of Randy Meisner singing "Take It To The Limit" off of KZbin as soon as someone uploads it. Like don't you sing "Get Over It"?

You stated Take it Easy was "co-written" by Jackson Browne as if he had a minor role it penning the song, when in fact it was the other way around, Frey contributed the line "..standing on a corner in Winslow, Az...", Browne had been struggling with one line, and Frey added the famous lyric. Other than that, it was Browne's song, he was persuaded by Frey to allow the Eagles to record it before he released his Everyman album on which his version appears. The eagles version was released before their debut album as a single with a song (Get you in the Mood) on the B side that never appeared on any of their albums.

2:02- So the Eagles were upset that Azoff releasing a greatest hits album without their permission was " a slick way to earn extra bucks." Funny they didn't seem too upset when they denied Don Folder royalties from Hotel California even though he brought the song to the band. Or the many times Frey and Henley " retired " the band only to repeatedly tour , charging insanely high ticket prices. That sounds like a pretty slick way to make some extra bucks, Dontcha think ? It's common knowledge that Frey and Henley are two of the biggest money grubbers in rock music history.

I believe that was all settled with the law suite. Eagles Non-discloseure kinda went out the window when Don started touring doing a lot of old Eagles material, even some of the stuff before he joined the band suggesting that he got the rights to use all Eagles material up to the day when he was kicked out of the band. I remember Don doing an interview where he said he wasn´t too keen on the $100 concert, that their music was for the fans, the behind the back dealings of Frey and Henley and the political benifit at Long Beach with Glenn telling Don "Ya, I´v Been Paying Your Wages For The Last Seven Years" was the straw that broke the Eagles Back. You don´t say that to a sitting memeber of a corperation with 1/3rd interest!

Actually, they didn't withhold royalties for that song from Felder. Royalties are paid by record companies - in the case, Asylum. They did, however, poach more money from the band's touring, merchandising. Frey and Henley charged millions of their personal expenses - from cocaine to massages to private jets - to the band, so that's stealing. Azoff only protected the interests of Henley and Frey, even though he was supposed to be Felder's manager, too. I'm glad Felder was finally able to pinch them for many millions.

I heard and interview o u tube with randy meister and he sounded like he was in pretty good health at least mentally he came off as a lovely person the interviewer was really good and it was like in 5 different parts but randy spoke about eagles but he kind of looked at it in context they where 4 guys all very talented his beautiful voice was at the highest end of there register right above Henley and those high notes at the end of take it to the limit where not falsetto and his bass playing was excellent but he really didn't have anything bad to say about any of them he said they where basically early twenties guy that got big real fast and there where tons of temptations drugs alcohol and of course lots of young girls and he was married had to kids but he gave in who wouldn't but he was not a front man he was shy and would rather just play bass and sing harmony and Glen would always push for him to do take it to the limit as the encour and some nights he just felt like he couldn't do it justice and he didn't want to let the audience and the bad to know it but he always gave in and hearing him do that song live was as good as the record and it really passed me off that they discarded half the original band like garbage so I love there music but Henley and fry where very talented but as people that's for each of you to decide they even got jealous of each other towards the end

Irving Azoff has taken plenty of criticism for many things over the years - including from the Eagles members themselves over that first greatest hits release in the mid-70s - but that record turned out to a monster. And rather than hindering sales of the new Hotel California record - as some in the band thought it might - it probably helped it immensely.

Its well known that Don Felder was denied songwriting credit over and over on many songs by the Eagles. He wrote the gorgeous arrangement for perhaps their greatest song 'Hotel California' and had to fight to get credit for that. Henley and Frey were and are all about Greed and Money. Look how many frivolous lawsuits Henley has filed over the years for so-called 'copyright infringement' some of them absolutely laughable. And after all the great music they created Glen Frey goes ballistic on Felder for not knowing who Senator Cranston was?! WTF? Don was and is a virtuoso on the guitar.
