It’s so unfortunate how the band lost their commercial footing after the Smile debacle and never regained their popularity because they put out so much amazing and underrated music from 67-73. Worth a listen if you haven’t check that part of their discography out.

@@wilhelmhagberg4897Pet Sounds is by most accounts a masterpiece, rated second best album ever made by Rolling Stone. You don’t have to like some of it bc of personal preferences but to say it is in places forgettable puts you on the level of professional critics. When the Beatles heard the innovative nature of it, they went about making Sgt. Pepper to one up it. So go ahead and say it is forgettable because you know more than Rolling Stone and the Beatles.
@wilhelmhagberg4897

@@1957es Lol I don’t know that anyone takes Rolling Stone seriously, they only go with whatever opinions are popular at the time. I think Pet Sound is a good record, but not a ”masterpiece”. It was innovative with a cohesive theme for the entire album, which is probably what inspired the Beatles. But the song quality is very uneven. Some of the tracks, like ”Don’t Speak…” and ”God Only Knows” are masterful, others not that much. Do you really consider ”That’s not me” or ”I’m waiting for the day” masterpieces?

Well, they weren’t. The Beach Boys have a few great songs and several good songs. But their albums are also littered with mediocre fillers and pointless covers. The Beatles was 100% high quality throughout their career. The Beatles were also incredibly inventive. ”Smile” and a few tracks from ”Pet Sounds” are the only instances where BB could compete.
@mineralt

The Beach Boys don’t play their instruments on the albums. The music was all done by “The Wrecking Crew” the group of studio musicians which includes Glen Campbell on guitar, Hal Blaine on drums, etc). The Beatles play the music on their albums.

As a former California beach nut my own self, I can appreciate how life for anyone who has a magic life can have its' tramas that can blur the paradise vibration. We all have our mountains to climb and our waves to catch. Most of BBs never board surfed and neither did I. But the beauty of the waves always trumped everything else in the end. Beach Boys Music was like the majestic waves in that way. We could always ride above, even without surf boards or even the ocean for that matter 🤗 God Bless the Beach Boys. One disclaimer I often hear is people use the term party' when describing the people in the tate house , during the night of the murders, I don't think with what was investigated during the research that led up to the killings, voytek was asleep on the couch in the living room, abaigail was lying in bed in her room, reading a book, Jay was in Sharon's room, who was 8 month pregnant, and they were simply talking , when Susan came in, and told them something was happening downstairs , and to hurry down, Steve McQueen, had joined them earlier at a restaurant, so broke off from them, after he met a woman and left, many speculate if he,d had been there, and was carrying a loaded pistol, it could have been a different outcome, he was also a martial arts expert, but that of course is hindsight.
