Di Death nearly upended the RF. They are a cold bunch of heartless beings, they could treat her correctly when she was a live. Charles and Camilla destroyed her life with the behaviour from beforehand of the engagement. I don’t forget. They may be a king and queen but not in my opinion both of them adulterers and divorcees. How’s that a good example for the English church?

The Queen and Charles were trying to shield the boys from the shock of their mothers death. But press and public were disrespectful to their wishes. Harry is still going on about the trauma. Earl Spencer was just grabbing a headline, and trying to be hero.

@@charm8167 The royals were not a "cold bunch of heartless beings" they were royalty and behaved like royalty. Americans, especially, confuse royalty with celebrity. Diana didn't behave like royalty she behaved like a celebrity. A princess doesn't cry in public, air dirty laundry in public, create drama. Diana was a rock star, not a princess. Bashing the royals for not behaving like celebrities does them a great disservice and it shows a lack of any understanding of what the monarchy is.

I was fortunate to meet Diana in the mid 90s when I, and a colleague, were installing a telephone line into a hospital, while she was on a visit. Her security pulled us up as we were looking out of the door of the telephone MDF room of the hospital. They, understandably, were a bit worried by two blokes peering at what was going on as she went past. Diana was cool about it and asked us what we were doing in the cupboard/room, her security were not as enthusiastic, lol. She made us feel what we were doing was interesting, even though it was mundane to anybody else, and she didn't have to talk to us. I feel the measure of somebody famous, of which I've met a few on the job, is how they interact with the public, and how they put you at ease. I also got this feeling when I met Fergie while on an installation, more down to earth than you'd think, not like some less famous celebrities I've met.

This was probably the most shocking death of a public figure I can recall. I always admired her compassion for those less fortunate, especially the many misunderstood victims of AIDS. I will always remember that summer night, my boyfriend and I were on vacation. It was Labor Day weekend. We had just returned from sitting in the dark with friends on a private beach. We turned on the television in the bedroom of our B+B. The news was just being announced with details to follow. CNN was a novelty to us since we didn’t have cable at home. My boyfriend was tired and rolled over, saying to wake him if there was news. I watched for an hour or so until her photo with the 2 years suddenly popped up. I couldn’t believe it, but then they announced it. I think I gave my boyfriend a charley horse when I pounded his leg with my fist. We sat in bed, in shock. We set our alarm clock the following week to wake up early for her funeral. It all seemed like a bad dream. I still can’t believe she’s been gone longer now than the world knew her. She would have made a wonderful queen.

@@jeanninehochet, I was shocked that what Diana wrote in her diary a year or two prior to her death, she wrote, "I feel that in a year or two I will be killed while driving my car the brake-line will be tampered with". She had this same feeling a year prior to the cause of her death which came true. I had a ex husband who I saw him tampering with the right rear end of my car one Sunday. I called out to him and ask him what he was doing under the right rear end of my car. You won't believe this when I tell you, my ex was in the process of slicing my brake lines. I did not check the brakes that Sunday, it did not accure to me at that moment. His reply to me was, he said he was checking my spark plugs!!! That is the moment I knew he was dangerous. I did yell at him to get out from under my car, I may not be a mechanic, but I am also not that stupid. The very next morning being a Monday, I got in my car and had to go back in the house to pick-up something to take to work with me. If I had not forgotten that and went back in my house I would not be writing this now. As I started to back out of the driveway my breaks would not stop my car. I had just enough gas after 5 or10 feet to stop my car in the middle of the street to stop. When Sears Mechanic called me into their garage to show me what they found I had to ask what it was. They told me in a roundabout way what had happened. He told me he could get in trouble and get fired but he told me in such a way that I knew what it was. All he said to me is: You are very fortunate, if you travel the new highway in the direction that ends right at Clayton ending in a curve that connects to Forest Park going east, that is all he would say and he kept my car and gave me a pickup day and time to have my car fixed. He showed me the brake cylinder where I had seen my ex the day before at the rear brakes. The cyclendar there was a knife slash mark across one side of the cylinder and oil was slightly leaking across the cylinder.

The Queen was in Scotland with the two Princes and Prince Charles at the time of Diana's death. Charles and Diana's sisters immediately flew to Paris to bring her body back. The Queen, and rightly so, stayed in Scotland to comfort her two grandsons. For the British public to demand she and the entire family come to London immediately to be "seen" was horrific. She was protecting those young boys from the developing mania surrounding Diana's death. The public almost demanded that the boys be paraded through the streets so they could see them, touch them, tell them how sorry they were about their mother. They were BOYS at the time and no one their age needed to do that. They were grieving for their Mother. I, for one, felt so sorry for them when they did come back to London and were brave enough to go on a walk about before their mother's funeral. If they had been grown men, that was one thing, but they weren't. Queen Elizabeth was right in what she did to protect them if even for a few days. The media circus and the public needed to understand that, but they didn't seem to. I thought it horrific they demanded that from those young boys.

I love your comment, it was Tony Blair who suggested the boys walk in the funeral procession, when he first told this to Philip he told him to F off, but he insisted because of the hysteria of the public who thought they had more right to mourn that her boys. Earl Spencer was so fond of Diana thar he refused to let her stay with him when she split from Charles because she was unstable and a drama queen, his eulogy was hypocrisy in action, the same man had a very public divorce from his wife where it came out that he abused her. I'm sick of the nonsense that's told about Diana. She was the first to have an affair, and that's why people think Harry wasn't Charles boy, Charles of course denied that to Harry by saying I might not be Princd Charles in a joking matter. Diana was also partying for a month and didn't see her children in that time, worse she got into a car driven by a drunk, wore no seatbelt and was killed. Had Diana not refused the Met protection they would never have allowed her to get into that car

I was one of the crowd outside Buckingham Palace for Diana"s funeral, I had a miniature radio and was listening to the service from Westminster Abbey, whilst Sarah McCorquodale (one of Diana"s sisters) was making a speech the flowers at the gates of Buckingham palace caught fire (presumably they had begun to compost and the heat from the rotting flowers and foliage cause them to spontaneously combust. Several of the police rushed across to the flowers with fire extinguishers to put out the fire before it took hold.

You know watching this and see and hearing the protocol that the Queen Elizabeth II broke for Princess Diana is very heart moving. And I'm sorry that Prince Henry can't decide whether it was appropriate or not appropriate or he was being asked or not asked to walk behind his mother's coffin but the one thing I take away from all of this is the love that the people had for princess Diana. Sometimes that love, family, and duty has to collide and run together. In some ways that is the only collision that is always going to hurt the most and you will see new rules or rules being broken because of that collision. That collision will hurt more and if you don't deal with it it's going to eat you alive. The you break it down is that what Charles did by wearing that navy blue suit that Princess Diana like him in was honoring Princess Diana. Princess Diana really went beyond, broke tradition, and above sometimes even what protocol and/or tradition. To me Queen Elizabeth was before her time. And for me it is still a very much opened wound for me that she's gone.

Despite all the resentment and rumours about the funeral and her death I think it was handled admirably. Globally the funeral and courtege was watched by millions of shocked admirers of Dianna Spencer. I was one of them. The show of grief in the British archipelago could not have been more touching and even though there was a great deal of resentment shown towards Diannas brother for the location of the internment of Diannas casket in later years it has become evident that he chose a very good and secure location for the remains of the woman who became an icon with more prestige than many more famous musicians and actors. Many of these actors and even political preserved characters have had their gravesite disturbed and in some cases their remains stolen. It is of course a great pity that her youngest son should be the reason that many of this beautiful ladies faults have been brought to light so many years after her death. He has not only shamed himself but has insulted a great Queen and grandfather in such a way that he caused them a great deal of pain before their deaths.

There was only one security person in the car. Sadly, he was a private person hired by the Fayed family and, as employees, both he and the driver ... some Fayed hotel employee ... both would do as they were told by their employers, not what was needed to keep their passengers safe. If Dodi or Diana told the driver to put his foot down, that's what he would have done. Had their security been from SO14, (the special unit responsible for protecting royalty) everyone would have been wearing seat belts and the driver would never have been permitted to speed for the non-urgent reason of avoiding photographers. You can not expect a privately employed security person to do anything other than what their boss tells them.
