I think you underscored the Wand of conducting. This item fully revolutionizes the music industry of any fantasy world to which it is introduced. Orchestral concerts that would at the time be considered once in a lifetime events to attend, can now be enjoyed by the literal wave of a hand. And if the music can be programed into the wand without having to actually have actually played the music on real instruments, this could result in massive waves of new composers able to create music without the need for entire orchestras. A simple lute on its own already costs 35 gold, so it wouldn't even cost wildly more to buy the wand than to buy the instrument itself. It certainly doesn't stand up to the wild strength of things like chest of preserving, but the musical world would be changed forever.
@pederw49004 ай бұрын
I think there are two possible versions of this item. The first contains a prerecorded orchestral piece which the crafter needs to either hear as part of the crafting, or actively transcribe something like sheet music into it as part of the crafting. Either of these creates albums as we have had them for the last 150 years or so. The second version of this item is, in short, an imagination-powered sound synthesizer, where waving the wand will allow the practiced or prodigious wielder to perform an entire symphony, or even to synthesize sounds in their mind and invent purely conceptual instruments, rapidly innovating the timbre of music forever.

Something about the staff of flowers is that it also creates the plant which the flower is attached to. A number of flowers are attached to edible or fruit bearing, or medicinal plants. There would be a good amount of cultivation labor attached, but being able to produce any flowering plant multiple times per day would change trade around the world without even needing a teleportation circle. Coffee production in America originally came from a single plant. I wouldn't say it improves the overall value to society a lot, but it does add to the complications it creates

Spellwrought Tattoo: Goodberry that is also world changing, it would completely change logistics, and thus warfare ----- have an army, where every soldier has one of these attuned, and carries another 10 unattuned tattoo-needles with them make your platoons (or whatever the smallest group of soldiers is called) 10 people big each platoon is now carrying 10(soldiers) * 11 (tattoos) = 110 days of rations with them each soldier is carrying 11 days of rations for up to 10 people (less than that if they are missing people, 1 tattoo can feed 10 people for a day, any leftover berries spoil) 110 day of rations weighing a TOTAL of MAYBE 1 kg (if a tattoo-needle weighs 10g, and most needles don't weigh more than 1g) ----- or just have your quartermaster carry and attune them
@yuridhjeeyn90344 ай бұрын
and then on top of that there are also the following level 1 spells: "Create or Destroy Water": the second half of our rations equation (together with "Goodberry") "Gift of Alacrity": +8 to initiative for your Nightwatch/Guard, with an 8 hour duration (this can make the difference between alerting the camp or being killed by the infitrating assassins before you can say anything) "Ceremony": just the funeral rite alone is already mandatory. it makes it so that the dead can't rise as undead and attack the living this would not just be useful in civilian life, safeguarding against the town being overrun by its graveyard but also in a military operation, there is little that is worse for morale than having your slain allies and friends stand up und attack you from the back

It's for reasons like this a lot of people tend to give limits to goodberries. My personal favorites are 1. Long term side effects like frequent stomach cramps or addictive properties with heavy withdrawal symptoms 2. Them providing enough nourishment but not actually making you feel full. Your stomach is still mostly empty, your body and mind keep feeling the hunger likely resulting in some bad psychological effects down the line. 3. Throwing up if you eat too many as if you just ate days worth of food. And my absolute favorite 4. The goodberry shits. The more you eat, the more con-saves you have to make sure the ridiculously high fructose levels won't make you have the worst day in the dungeon today.

I've ran thermal cubes as cooling as well. It serves as the ultimate temperature control. And unless there is something fundamental about that temperature, mages can manufacture tailored cubes to the preferences of the buyer. Maybe 35 celsius is easier, so cooler (or if your a fire genasi, warmer) costs 10-20 gold more. Also, thermal cubes can be used to power a pneumatic system. PV=NRT means that you've multiplied the pressure in a 15 foot room by a factor of 1.05. Just open a valve and you'll have a pressure of 5 kilopascal pushing out. When pressure equalizes, remove the cube and put it in a different sealed chamber, which will heat up. When that one runs out of gas, move it back to the first. Infinite pneumatic pressure supply. All thats needed is a single common item.

Just hit me... Talking dolls ought to be the number 1 (or maybe 2) 10 out of 10. Not only does it combo well with your choice (for the specific condition you mentioned), it also takes DnD from medieval to inform age [potentially] within the first generation using them. If talking dolls are used in basic magical computers each digit will have six triggers and six six-word outputs. If you have the cash to collect 8 for a computational bit's worth... Well, that is a heck of a lot more versatile than eight zeros or ones... Not quite a qualtum spectrum, but exponentially more powerful than a binary I/O sequence. How many [binary] bits of processing power was needed to successfully strap a bunch of men to a bomb and get them to the moon and back? And all in one piece too. And that was without any thing magical to augment the effective output from the raw computing power! Just thinking of your video on the social impact from the entertaining magic mouth machine... A few thousand gold means a you could have a DnD style Ai Terminator revolution within a single generation 😅. Six [complex] variables to form the bits and bytes - a splash of magic - and things go bonkers quick, really quick. 😂

I've recently begun to question the "magic items are forever" assumption. It's a game mechanic that exists for gameplay simplicity and player quality of life, and was only introduced in later editions of D&D. It doesn't necessarily represent the experience of the average NPC. What if magic items can be broken? Affected by stray dispel magic spells? Are vulnerable to wild magic zones or other environmental conditions? Theft or consumption by weird extraplanar creatures? Anything that reduces the average lifespan of a magic item reduces its economic impact and the chance the item will last long enough to justify its initial cost.
@williamstokes42824 ай бұрын
Magic items are specifically not forever in DnD 5E, they are typically much more durable(have resistance to all damage) than their common counterparts but they can still be damaged. Typically you don't go ruining your players items because that isn't nice as a DM but magic items can take damage and therefore be destroyed unless you're talking about artifacts.

there is one limiting factor, it only obeys commands from the person who planted it. It simply won't listen to orders from anyone else so there can be no delegation. rules as written, I would assume those orders could not include "obey mr. x as you would me, when I'm not around." they have the same intelligence as an average human so i don't see a problem with giving complex orders. so they could understand such an order but it sounds like the rules forbid it. if the above is a correct reading, if you have too many then the economic impact of your demise becomes astronomical. Way cheaper than slave labor that has to be fed, clothed, housed, and policed. but slaves can be inherited and traded and don't turn into intelligent but disobedient plants when their owner dies. I can imagine the impact on Druids who talk to these intelligent plants who are now bored to death because the human who planted them has long since died and now they can't do anything. how would Druids react to this practice? wouldn't they be wiped out by a civilization who does this?

I'm guessing you missed my comment on the last video? I mentioned the Potion of Comprehension, and granted you the benefit of the doubt that you were holding it off cause it was basically a 1st level Spellwrought Tattoo of the same spell that you drink when you want it instead of applying it as a tattoo in advance and then activating later so it's got nothing really elevating it above the tattoo of the same spell. Even a cost difference is debatable since the tattoo RAW cannot be recovered after application to transfer to someone else (unless I'm missing something), so it's still basically a consumable. Alcohol actually would dehydrate due to the way we process it, so ToP is far less valuable in a survival situation. If it could be combined with ToS, that would negate this, but yeah. I'd argue the Veteran's Cane is even more useless cause it would register under Detect Magic, which any royal court should definitely have.

Endless dwaven ale sounds good, but also consider that a single source item will always be the same ale. Maybe every example has the same ale. No matter how good it inherently is, the combination of pushback from brewers and simple familiarity would significantly reduce its percieved value. Imagine a big city tavern selling its signature set of "golden brews" that varies in taste and quality with every run for true connesuirs and loyal locals, while also selling its magically produced "silver swill" at a 1 sp discount for folks who just want anything to get drunk. A finer establishment may put a two drink limit on anyone buying "Silvah", and even outright bans of it for those who never try anything else. All the while, if production or supply is limited for any reason, they can still shrug and openlt rely on the endless option. And someone who is found to avoid taverns entirely, because they rely on their own endless ale? Such a Swillard would be considered far lesser than any respectable drunkard, and possibly get spit in the face.

Way late to the party here, but I solve a lot of the OP magical items being that conjured items are never actually fully real. "Magic" itself in my setting has no nutritional value. It's effectively illusions for the mind and body both, and when the illusion ends, reality sets in. We do enjoy survival mechanics and so many of these cool items end up just scrapping any challenge so we all talked it out, and decided that yeah you can eat conjured or magically produced food/water/ale, but when that magic fades, (which will be give or take, a day max, when your body destroys it via attempting to digest it) then it kind of realizes its been tricked, and you become thirsty/hungry again as if you'd not eaten. Meaning you can use conjured items like that to help stave off hunger, but they still have to solve the hunger by getting something in their bodies before it expires. Magical conjured money is as good as the real thing sure, if it's never dispelled. I've implemented at least in some more high-end businesses to have dispellers checking currency the way some stores check high value cash notes IRL. Anyway figured i'd share my 2 cents, thanks for all these videos. I appreciate having someone else that overthinks things (and is better at it than I am ;) )

The Spellwrought Tattoo isn't a permanent thing, though. It's basically a spell scroll that takes attunement; you cast it once, and it vanishes forever. It should be rated the same as spell scrolls or one point higher, since it requires attunement (but that isn't likely to matter to most basic-level folk in a world) but removes the need for material components. It wouldn't give you any more reliability for a familiar than a spell scroll, since if the familiar dies, you still need to cast it again. I loved the video overall, but I think you misread how the Tattoo works.
