Try walking 2.5 large dogs with you when you especially can say things like “no no James, stop pulling me on the ice, you’re going to make me fall, Sadie you’re so happy but mommy can’t run downhill with her knees. Ranger you’re such a good boy, thank you for not pulling”. James is 40 lbs. Sadie is 70 lbs and Ranger is 105 lbs. They’re pretty much lean muscle though the boys are 10 and my girl is 12. So I walk an hour with my babies? No. But I need to have goals too. Also when stupid people don’t have their dogs on leashes and their dog rushes my 3 dogs (I’m 5’1”, 118 lbs, 62 with severe osteoarthritis from the waist down - have had 11 surgeries so far, need another 6) so when you don’t have your “friendly” dog under control, you just caused damage to my body by my being taken down onto my knees hard enough that I’m bleeding through my pants and I’ll be swollen later. So yeah I got a pass for a week on hiking but I did go to the gym!

@@CodyRoxy16 well the problem of course is while my dogs aren’t necessarily aggressive, another dog charging them can set them off plus their pack mentality can kick in. And my big boy spent 7 months recovering from injury from ex boyfriend’s dog who bit him badly. This happened while we were gone for a short while, the weekend that Christmas happened in 2023. He had to have major surgery and now has a pretty impressive scar. Mentally he really isn’t up to socializing with new dogs. And I don’t want any dog to get hurt - mine or any others. I’m the kind of person who literally throws themselves into the fray to stop a dog from getting hurt.

I am going to echo a lot of folks on this, I started last June at 360 pounds and a human dumpster fire with a desk job. Started walking every day. It was brutal at the start I had to stop constantly to catch my breath. I keep at it daily, rain, shine, wind, and snow. I average 3-4 miles a day with a long walk once a week of up to 10 miles. Down to 270 and getting ready to start weight training again. A decent diet, and walking knocked 90 pounds off my keister. 80 pounds to go! THIS WAS A GREAT VIDEO!!!

I am so excited to see myself in the mirror at 200lbs. I started with meal plan for weight loss from Onlymeal, and followed their gym workout program. I trained 3 times per week and was on 2500kcal per day. I also started to making 5k steps per day and drinking more water. I quit sugar and start eating fruits.

@@Nindoty231 Need at least 20 minutes to burn off your glycogen store. After that your burning fat. Walking during a fast is incredibly efficient in burning fat. Walk before breakfast. Use a GPS or pedometer to track miles if you want. I always used time to count calories burned after running my height and weight through a calories calculator.
@apexaustriae9973
@apexaustriae9973 13 күн бұрын
@Nindoty231 It's about the pace, trail inclination, distance and speed. I started with walking in flat areas for 45min, then switched to a more inclined terrain after a few weeks walking for 60min. As time went on, I increased my pace, and walked a bit further and further every few days, and had 2 hour long walks after a few months. This way lost about 170lbs within a year. I lowered my calorie intake to normal levels too. However, I think that It's about the fact that one is moving, doing cardio, mostly, first burning blood sugar, and then after around 60min, burning fat, that makes the difference.
@1980Baldeagle
@1980Baldeagle 13 күн бұрын
@@Nindoty231 You don't burn any fat until your glycogen store is gone. So either walk after fasting, like in the morning, or walk a lot longer and faster. It's just math. The energy it takes to move your butt where you want it to go. Also, if you have a low carb diet your glycogen store will be low so you start burning fat quicker than someone on a SAD. Is this OK?

You are so right. Walking is a wonderful exercise for managing stress too. 60-year old woman here. I used to walk loads, always kept the weight off. I've had worsening upper foot pain (they've found wear and tear arthritis) for a few years now, so can barely walk half an hour without triggering the pain and starting to limp. I now go to a personal trainer weekly for strength training, and try to do the exercises at home in between, but I desperately miss my long walks and feel very low about it. To everyone who loves walking, make the most of it while you can, you never know when you won't be able to any more.

43 years old. I’ll have 2 years sober on 1/25. 11.5 months ago I decided it was time to take the next step and get back in shape. That all started with walking. Every single morning I got up, got out (I live in the mountains in the west), and I walked for an hour and a half to watch the sunrise. I did that for 7 months straight. Looking back on the year, there is no question that my fondest memories and the most special moments during this journey happened on those quiet mornings of solitude and keeping a promise to myself. I lost 65 lbs during that period of time. Walks turned to runs, runs turned to weight training, and I’m currently in the best shape of my adult life. The benefits are immeasurable-physical, mental, spiritual, all of the things.

I’ve walked with my dogs everyday for the last 16 years straight, never missed a day, rain, shine, snow, minus 30, 80 above, it doesn’t matter, we go every day for a 45 to 60 minute walk. I’ve had injuries from accidents, I still walk, I’ve been sick as a heck, I still walk. I manage two mining operations with 23 employees, I still walk. Walking, connecting with nature, breathing fresh air, watching the seasons changing, noticing the little things along the way, it’s all GOLD my friends. Grunt Proof knows what he’s talking about. My simple rule for weight loss is don't eat any bad food. Sounds simple, but there ends up not being must left you can eat. Avoid high salt is another good one. I usually doesn't move BP, but it has the advantage that if you ditch high salt, it rules out almost anything man made. It gets funny. Try to get under a thousand mg a day, and you can barely east even a spartan sandwich.

Now I am focusing on changing my diet and adding other methods of exercise with the idea that where ever I land (diet and exercise) will have to be sustainable over the long term. for instance, Im looking for the "easy pickins" like no more beer and as I am reducing my beer consumption, I am already seeing positive results. Consistency is key, yes. However, at 51, I finally found FORGIVENESS. Since then, I no longer have to feed the big void I felt inside. Via intermittent fasting and keto, I have lost soooo much weight and many more inches. I do like to excercise, that was never the problem, but now I am no longer a "slave" to the gym. I feel empowered and SAFE. I once was a victim, now I am responsible. And again: Consistency is the key. Thank you very much for your frank words. Seeing you walking in the snow sludge makes me appreciate my life so much more. Hailing from Trinidad and Tobago 🇹🇹. Best wishes to you and youe wife for 2025.

With the exception of rucking in the military and treadmill bouts I've never done a 10k+ walk outside until three days ago when I finally decided to finally make this walking my go to cardio and I must say, the mental clarity and focus while just easily walking and after is so awesome it really is the most underrated and easy thing to do for your mind and body. @ it’s a colloquial word stemming from the abbreviation of the word rucksack and its use in hiking. Generally a ruck is anything you do with a load on your back, typically between 25lbs and 70lbs and can cover any distance at fast walk or jogging pace, but there’s no official definition that I’ve found. There are standards commonly used in the military, for example, 20km with 65# in under 3.5 hours.

I agree with you to a certain extent. Walking is a key to getting fit. I went through almost a year of cancer treatments several years ago. I puffed up like the Goodyear blimp and didn't feel like doing any type of exercise after a long day at work. I didn't really feel like working, but I had to pay the bills. I was then played off for two years. I started walking and biking. In just a short time, I dropped from 276 to 192. I know it works. Now, as for old men not listening to young men, I am 72, and I have no problem listening to a young man. When I was a squad leader, I let my squad members be part of the decision-making. That was my way to get fresh ideas and to help them grow into good leaders. Anyway, I have gotten out of shape after retirement and have just started back walking and exercising. You are right about time, I don't have that much time left, and I don't want to go out fat, lol. Sorry this is long, I just wanted to let you know that some old people do believe in listening.

This is exactly how I dropped 70 pounds. Started walking. Everyday... It sucks at first, but it works. It has been almost a 2 year journey. The only change I made to my diet was simply to record down what I ate so I didn't overeat during the day. Now the walking doesn't suck, and I'm cycling again. I still record my meals, because I love to eat and I have to say no at a certain point during the day....I have picked up resistance bands for upper body training. I hate gyms so I'll do that at home. I still have a few pounds to drop, don't see at as an issue because everything is just getting easier. The extra weight just made everything I did harder. As I approach 60 years old, I'm glad to see less of me in the mirror. Thank you for making this video.👍

The beauty of this message is that it works like magic. I remembered when I downloaded a habit tracker. Just seeing 40 000 steps at the end of the week was such a booster. And then I bought a smart watch to know exactly my gains instead of my gaps, and to gamify things. To notice that even without going for a walk I was manifesting 1 to 2 000 steps a day is what gave me the intrinsic motivation to make it my identity, just like when I was a kid. 10 000 steps used to be a bit of a challenge, now I only feel it when I am at 15 000 steps in a couple of hours. Also someone might find it weird, but if you can walk, walk not only for you, but for all the people who wish they could but can't because of real handicap or a huge and an unbearable pain.

You speak so much wisdom in this video. A relentless devotion to walking saved my life after I suffered a fractured jaw, broken arms, and a broken spine in January 2022 at the age of 46. I was left with such excruciating pain that I did not want to live. I still fear that I will ultimately lose my battle against debilitating chronic pain and become a suicide statistic, but in the meantime, walking 1 to 3 hours every single day gives me peace, freedom, and moments of true respite from the agony of bone and nerve pain. I wouldn't be here if it were not for daily walks (once I was able to walk again after being bedridden for 34 days). Walking has a healing power all its own that many do not know or fully understand. I tell others to please walk if they want to improve their physical and mental pain. Walking and intermittent fasting have worked more miracles in my life than counseling or Rx medication ever did. Nothing but love and kindness and a perfectly pain-free existence wished for all who find themselves in this comment section. Life is so short and everything can change in a few seconds.

After 6 months I had gotten back to my usual life-long weight of 165, having lost 35 pounds. At 73 I can still do 7 chin-ups and plank for 3 minutes. That's how it's done you have to cut your carbs out first off your body literally Burns glucose for energy first why would you want to have excess glucose we can literally just burn medium and long chain fatty acids in the form of Ketone conversion in the liver which is known as ketosis and literally when the healthiest things you can do. Of course you got to cut those seed oils out they are horrible in the process stuff is garbage and really all you have to do is walk because low intensity cardio burns fat before it burns glucose and if you're ready to drive the glucose you are literally burning fatty acids you consumed or fatty acids from your fat stores of course you want to strength training too but you don't have to that's not really your goal but overall for life it should be your goal

@@MaddenMagician Right. There are two hormones that are like a teeter-totter -insulin and glucagon (the one nobody's ever heard of). Insulin is anabolic, building up and storing energy by pushing glucose out of the blood stream (this is when the insulin side of the teeter-totter is up). When insulin has done its job and gotten the glucose (mostly from carbs) out of the blood stream,, then glucagon gets its chance to be the high side of the teeter-totter, being sent out from the liver to break down fats (glucagon is catabolic) into ketones (beta-hydroxybutyterate). You can't burn fat when insulin is up (too much glucose in the blood), only when insulin is down, this is when glucagon goes to work. It's a simple way to think of weight loss (burning fat). Both hormones cannot be up (doing their thing) at the same time.

@@MaddenMagician Right, we use insulin (a hormone) to burn glucose (blood sugar), and we use glucagon (another hormone) to burn fat. You can't burn fat until you get the insulin down by getting the glucose down. You're either burning sugar (glucose) or you're burning fat. That's it.

The one and only key to weight loss is this: Get your insulin down, and keep it down while you burn energy. You cannot burn fat while you have elevated insulin. Additionally, Insulin has an inverse relationship with ketones. High insulin, low ketones. Low insulin, high ketones. Walking, like any exercise, increases energy expenditure. It helps burn through carbohydrates and return insulin to normal. It’s also an exercise almost anyone can do, and a whole hour extends the benefits. It will help weight loss. Especially if you do it without consuming carbs. Try just meat or eggs instead. Good video. I hope more people take your advice.

@ You must have glucose in order to live. Many tissues in your body can run on ketones, and will do better than if they were burning glucose. But some require glucose, such as about 30% of your brain. The good news is the body can make glucose. This process is called gluconeogenesis, and it takes place mostly in your liver. If you’re eating both protein and fat, your liver can easily provide all the glucose your body needs. This means carbohydrate is a non-essential nutrient. You have to have it, but you don’t have to consume it. If you’d like to know more, please ask!

I like that too Tracey. It clears your head. I find it disheartening that I see so many people looking at their cellphones while they are walking. Good Lord! Leave it at home or if you feel you need it in the event of an emergency, put it in your coat pocket and don't take it out unless it is an emergency.

I’ve always loved to walk. Ran for 20 yrs with, after military. Now 65 and knees feet hurt harder to move. Still force myself to walk, Have 50 lbs to loose. Pray I can keep moving. I discovered walking down stairs backwards helped cuz knees couldn’t handle going forward.

I'm in a completely different industry, and over time I figured out the same tactic you're talking about when people want your help with something: make them prove it by giving them one basic task to do, something that proves their commitment. It works! I never hear from 95% of these people again. I'm glad my helping-others project isn't my career (it's just a side thing) or I'd starve to death. You, however, put it into words and I wish I could have seen this video 10 years ago. I'd have saved myself (and some people who wanted my help) a lot of grief.

I was 199.9 lbs and now 171.9 . Mostly through two hour walks including uphill roads and intermittent fasting. The walking doesn’t hit your glycogen like intense exercise but takes fat out of your body storage like Visceral fat. At the moment i am only doing push ups and dips in my room but i do need to get some weight training in. I am 65 and my visceral fat was high and bp high. Analyser Scales help me to stay on track. Plus two meals a day and mostly no snacking. My Viseral fat is back in the black and my belly is flatter. Walking also clears the mind and de stresses you which keeps Cortisol levels down aiding in fat loss.

Thank you for this video!!! My fiancée and I LOVE to go hiking 3-4 times a week, and being outside moving and conversing with each other - it's the best exercise and so enjoyable outdoors in nature. I agree 100% - go walking!! It is so natural and good for us people to walk around, move our bodies, stretch, and be active! It's important for the mind as well. Love this. Thank you for posting!!!

I'm about to celebrate my 76th B-day and in the last year developed knee pain which I have never had before (I live in a tri-level condo). I had about a year prior worked part time in a nursery and walked every day. I felt the best ever I had in years. Then for the next year and half, I didn't keep up that activity level and the pain I developed scared me. Now I'm going to physical therapy and DOING my assigned exercises and more, I am surprised how the knee pain has go away. I'm keeping on so that I can start walking again without so much discomfort. There is hope!!!

You just popped up in my feed. This was a great thing you did - getting people to walk first. When I was younger I was black and white-move more, eat less. But there was so much information not known or a way to share it. As we get older hormones, metabolic health and inflammation play bigger roles. And walking helps all 3 of those. I have started walking more to help regulate my hormones and sleep. I saw a study last year that a walk after dinner significantly helped diabetics lower their blood sugar. Now I am not insulin resistant but adding that 2nd walk in helped me lose 8 lbs last spring. Which for me is huge.

Good stuff for the average person. I walk 3 miles 3x/wk, I run 6mi 2x/wk, I run 12mi 2x/wk. I had a trainer but had to fire him because he wasn't helping me build muscle. I created my own outdoor gym for pull ups, and bench press. I do squats, push ups, RDLs, LTEs, curls, overhead presses. I work out rain or shine, and don't need a trainer, but would appreciate a good one like you seem to be. Oh yeah, I started doing this when I was 61 and am 2 years into it. I have a marathon next weekend - my 4th.

I started walking consistently about 4 years ago. Average distance per day (including regular daily moving around) is between 15 and 18 kms per day during the summer. Winter it goes down to maybe 12-15 kms. I cannot recommend walking enough! Now, I'm in the gym 5 days a week doing weights and cardio, but I still love to walk. Start walking, start walking today!

Thank you. It needed to be said. I have 80 lbs to lose and set a goal of 5 months. Now that seems unrealistic after watching this, so I'm going to work on healthy habits. I quit my two life-long addictions of almost daily bags of chips and cocktails every night. 16 days in and I'm not missing them. I tried walking but hate not having a destination so I bought a treadmill but hated that too and didn't use it. So I got a dog who needs exercise daily. That's what got me walking! I intend to keep increasing my distance and my goal is to go to hiking trails around WI with my four-legged coach.

This is really helpful . I am a busy mom of many kids and I also have a garden and land.. so A lot of physical work but I don't always walk distance every day. I started Pvolve to build strength and so agree with how he stated the muscle building makes all the daily physical work easier. I had done the gym in many seasons but the machines were not as good for me- everyone has to find their thing but this is a great reminder that walking is good for everyone

Great video and lesson! I was a part time trainer for a few years and some of the things you talk about are spot on!! Especially the money side and the type of client along with the dedication. There is no magic exercise, pill or diet for weight loss. Plus when people go on some of these "magic diets" they don't realize they're weight loss isn't just fat but also muscle.

At last, some common sense. Im a builder from England and very active most of the time. Apart from my work i also cycle around 100 miles a week half of that offroad on an MTB. IM 6'1" and 183lb which is 7 lb too heavy for me. At 64 i have no intention of slowing up. A word of warning to the younger generation who may be out of shape, dont delay, get out there today and walk. This video is bang on target. So many people of my generation are riding on mobility scooters, knackered ankles, knees and hips and walking is free of charge. Finally, a few people say to me im lucky i do a physical job, really? bent double on a wet Monday laying bricks in a trench.
