I'm a white cosmetologist/MUA. I did my schooling in a small, rural, almost completely white town. We learned NOTHING about doing textured hair or makeup. Nothing. It bothered me so much. I didnt want to call myself a cos/mua if I couldn't make ALL skintones and hair textures look good. I paid a lot of money to take classes and courses so I could learn and perfect my craft. And anyone reading this thinking of going to school for this stuff...GET EDUCATED. That money and time will come back to you ten fold when you are GOOD at your craft. Do your homework. Your clients are family and you need to give them your time and great skills so they leave feeling and looking flawless. That is YOUR JOB as a stylist. This sort of thing should NEVER happen in 2020. Come on ppl. I'm so sorry this happened to you. GOOD FOR YOU FOR SPEAKING UP!! 👏👏👏

But nope never again, my hair texture is like a 2c/3a. She couldn’t figure out how to do it. I didn’t leave happy, so she told me to comeback the next day with my hair straightened. As a black model I’ve had my natural hair damaged with heat to the point of having to shave my head and start over, weaves that made my scalp bleed, and because of those things I refuse to do a wig shoot without thoroughly vetting the stylist, with recommendations and opinions of past black clients. It sucks because being black women, AND a model in a male dominated industry, you can’t just get up, I can’t tell them their doing it wrong, u can’t even complain if it hurts, because then your aggressive hard to work with and unprofessional.... u just have to sit and bear it honestly. @@QueeniePooh21 Yeah. Those are people you vetted and can confirm know how to do black hair. I still wouldn't just take my chances with a RANDOM non-black person... It's not even easy to find a BLACK person who does black hair properly. But to be fair, I HAVE to be picky, because I'm extremely tender-headed, and traumatized from everyone being rough on my hair as a child. Even growing up, I would cringe like I was having a near death experience, every time someone else would comb it, even if it didn't hurt. So I'm the only person who's done my hair in years. But I'd love to be able to put it in someone else's hands, and leave satisfied.

When working with black models, brands should either hire stylists who have experience working with all hair types or ones that work exclusively with black hair. I don’t understand why they couldn’t have looked over their team’s credentials a little harder before bringing them on board. I was a stylist for 10 years & anytime I was faced with a challenge I wasn’t equipped to take on, I politely informed the client that I wasn’t experienced enough to meet their needs & passed them onto stylists who were. There’s nothing wrong with knowing your limitations & it’s best to just be honest, but some people are too stubborn to admit when they’re out of their lane. I can’t believe they glued that wig to your hairline 😣

I also think they felt they could slack on you because they don’t know what they are doing and they depend heavily on retouching. They also don’t value our hair the way they value other hair textures so they didn’t mind slapping glue on your hair. I also think that white hair stylist who are only familiar with black hair from social media I think they get the feeling that black women don’t care about their real hair either because a lot of black women neglect their real hair to wear wigs and weaves and they look horrific. As a hair stylist one of my clients who is a mode(black)Was paid $7000 for a company to color her hair platinum blonde. I told her that it will fall out and it did. I also feel like some brands if they are paying expect for you to shut up get paid and move on.Work it in to any paid jobs that you will handle your hair .

It can be hard for multiple ppl without it be being the same level of hardship. Per your example you said they used to mess it up all the time. There are plenty of stories out there from women with coarser hair or deeper skin that don’t have it done at all if they don’t do it themselves because the set doesn’t have anyone that can or will. Black stylists arent booked the same and makeup companies are still exclusionary in product development so there is a difference the deeper the skin and coarser the hair the model gets and more factors go into the reason it happens.

Hearing about situations like this happening always piss me off so much. If you can not come on set and properly style any and all clients you may service you are not a a pro artist imo. If you can’t work with any and all hair types from bone straight to 4c natural hair you are not a pro hair stylist in my eyes🤷🏾♀️ it’s 2020 and there should not be instances of black models/talent having to style their own hair or having to bring someone else that is not being paid on set or having to bring their own complexion products or completely do their full face to avoid looking a hot mess due to lack of knowledge or experience working with black hair types or makeup application on deeper skin tones, especially when an “artist” is being paid and on set to do that. If some people don’t have anything else they damn sure got the audacity🤦🏾♀️

I wanted to CRYYY when you said bobby pins. I'm actually emotional. Sue him for the wig and the counseling you'll need to trust anyone of authority again. 😢😭😭

I am so mad for you I actually had a similar experience but at least I was just chilling you had a whole photoshoot. They would have had to fight me and cudos to your manager you got a good one.

That is unprofessional when the hair stylist is not able to do whole range of installs and hair types.. fr he shouldnt say/advertise himself being able to do different types of hair smh

Chile at 6:38 my face literally went 😮 cause I knew it was gonna tear all the lace. This is such a disgusting story. It's sad how so many ppl are so called "professional' this or that but aren't educated to claim such. I get headaches easily and all those pins would have been a hell NO cause I would have ended up with a migraine.

What's crazy is they should spend that money on the professional black stylists because there are plenty and there are a few who are celebrity stylists too so they need to stop playing like they don't know where to find them.
