Thank you for posting this - always been a favourite piece, written by me and Brian Gulland in 1973.

Graeme Taylor Easily my favourite of all Gryphon works. Such a haunting melody and utterly beautiful. Thank you so much.

Brian is very humble guy with an amazing talent! I’ve been fortunate enough to have a beer with him recently!

I was privileged to see the band open for Yes in Lawrence, Ks. Personally, I preferred you guys.

@@kneuer I saw them on the same tour with Yes in Knoxville, TN. Although I loved Yes, I can't disagree with your sentiment.

A line from a Gryphon song just now popped into my head from nowhere - “grab a wispy cloud, five fingers round” - and here I am! I couldn’t even remember the name of the band. This is delightful. Takes me straight back to the 70s. I can even smell the inside of my Ford Escort mk 1!! Thank you for posting. Love it.

Had no idea they were still performing. Saw them open for YES back in the mid 70's. Outstanding!

First heard them back in 73, on the RED QUEEN album.Utterly brilliant, what a sound.Now we know exactly what medieval music actually sounded like.Might be the most unique group there is .

Great performance! I like how they extended some parts to give themselves time to switch instruments.

After the delightful surprise of the 2009 reunion, hope slowly faded that a new album would ever see the light of day. But with song titles posted on their website, it looks like it's finally going to happen. It's a privilege to experience this band!

Just witnessed them at Faversham's - "A New Day" festival - rather blew my mind - and the band before them 'Home Service' but otherwise nothing quite like this.. beauty incarnate - close the eyes and drift off to the vinyl as the stylus grows a beard of dust, and float into dreams of a world where Gryphon were a local band and sometimes invited me to play lead electric guitar
@synthonaplinth59807 жыл бұрын
Looks like Graeme played with both bands that night....

macabre2007 Most apt comments about stylus, dust and vinyl. As a HiFi geek remember only too well the appalling surfaces of Transatlantic Records. Wished they'd been on the best--Polydor!!

Nice to have memories like that Macabre. Mine was having San Andrews from JJanice oplin's Big Brother Band sit-in with my Houston band in 1994. (the Swamis)

I did indeed - along with Andy Findon (reeds) and Rob Levy (bass). It was rather exhausting wearing two large hats in such close succession!

Just curious: were Gryphon and Gentle Giant ever on the same bill. That would be as awesome as when I saw the B-52's open for Talking Heads at the Armadillo.

It seems way slower than in the album.

I like the alternate tempo. It's easy to forget that what we all take to be the definitive version from hearing an album over and over may not be the vision the band has for that tune. Life is not too short!

Great, but where's the Moog?
@fabrikk60Ай бұрын
I was just thinking that this version sounds better without that. Those early monophonic Minimoogs could sound rather thin and shrill. I did really like the piano figure on the outro of the studio version though. But that was 50 years ago, and we can't have everything I suppose.

Who was in the lineup here? I recognize Dave, Brian and Graeme. Who is the bass player and keyboardist/ reedist?
@michelangelolucco70186 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately, Richard Harvey is no more with the group. New members featured here are Graham Preskett on keys and violin, Rory McFarlane on bass and Keith Thompson on recorders, saxes and oboe. Thompson has now been replaced by Andy Findon, from Michael Nyman Ensemble and from Graeme Taylor's Home Service.
@michelangelolucco70186 жыл бұрын
Preskett (known for playing/arranging with the late Gerry Rafferty) on mandolin too.
