I remember when I rented this film, when they got to Rock Biter singing "Born to Be Wild," I was so horrified that I not only stopped watching the film, I actually experienced DEEP HURTING from a movie for the first time. Luckily, I popped in my copy of Network, and all was well. Speaking as a recovering NC fan, I actually think these commentaries are pretty good (I also listened to the Secret of NIMH 2 commentary). It's fun to hear Doug just be himself for once, rather than as a character.

My grandpa's favorite movie was Neverending Story, which is hilarious because he was a grizzled Vietnam vet, which means at some point in the eighties a forty year old scary dude sat in a theater thinking Falcor was the shit.

The "Heart" of the bad movies? I remember them mentioning that in Garbage Pail Kids. So from what I can see: Jack Black in this film, Bea Arthur in Star Wars Holiday Special and "Juice" in GPK.

This is the only movie of the trilogy that has no relation to the book outside of the characters (which are completely wrong) the first film and second film at least have some relation to the story in the book.

First movie is based on first half of book and second movie is loosely based on the second half. The third includes the wandering mountains, which appeared in neither film but has nothing else in common.

All three films were filmed in Vancouver, and all three have the same producer. (The first two films use most of the same locations in Vancouver, while the third film uses Vancouver Technical School and Metrotown mall, Burnaby.) They likely didn't reuse the puppets from the first two movies because: a) They didn't film the fantasia scenes in Vancouver originally (Falkor's scene is all green screen in the first movie) so the puppets weren't actually there. b) Muppets fall apart and don't survive shipping (look up Hoggle lost luggage) And trying to find the 3rd movie, it is more expensive (like 50$ on Amazon) than buying the first two movies new. I had to find the "Miramax bundle" with crappy mastering.

This is one of my favorite reviews-they point out why. This is just a hilariously bad movie, and Jack Black is priceless in this and the Khan jokes make it even funnier, and it's just so insulting and stupid that it just boggles them mind. It's like the Tom and Gerry Movie-once you get past the horror and revulsion, this is just prime for tearing apart. A movie that you can genuinely hate and be satisfied by that hate, and still enjoy just for the madness and mindfuckery of it all.

OK. The first movie followed the first half of the book (with a few liberties). The second movie followed the second half VERY loosely. The third movie is pretty much a completely original story. I hope that one day, there will be a decent movie adaptation of the whole book. There's also an animated series which was actually quite respectful of the book (most of the episodes were based on short stories from the book), although they used some of the second movie as a base. It's actually good.

Neverending story 2 was not bad. I wasn't a patch on the original, but it really wasn't as awful as your making it up to be. When I saw the neverending story 2 when I was 12, I liked it, it felt like a return to fantasia. I knew when I saw NES3 that they gave up and weren't trying anymore and it was shit, but the second one wasn't bad at all, for a kids fantasy movie it worked fine.
