This year's badge is even fancier than last time! Next time's killer feature is said to be "Being ready at the start of the festival" Edit: I'm putting together a video about my trip to EMF which includes assembling the badge and trying to get it to work. That video should be up some time in the next few... months

I'd love a follow-up video showcasing what weirdness the attendees were able to cook up with those badges.

While it was not an "Official" Con badge, and it came YEARS before the "BadgeLife" or "BadgeCon" style of everyone making their own electronic badges, I happen to have one of the Ninja Tel phones from DefCon 20 here. That could probably be considered one of the earlier "GSM Badges". Though likely not the first.

That has to be one of the coolest badges for a trade show or a convention or conference ever.

I don't think it is the first. I've seen some defcon talk about this. Not sure which one it is though.
@AureliusR5 жыл бұрын
It was, I believe, ShmooCon on the west coast of the USA, and yes it was like 3-5 years ago. It was an extremely popular talk at DEFCON, and they actually went above and beyond what was done here. I don't understand how these badge creators could *not* know about the other badge.

Lol. I wish my Samsung Galaxy had a hardware disconnect switch for the microphone and cameras!! Ya hear that Samsung? A conference badge phone has better user security than your flagship. Good on you guys. Cool project. *Hello My Name Is:* (area code...)
@onometre6 жыл бұрын
Idk why you're calling Samsung out. No mass produced smartphone had a hardware disconnect for mic or camera. And only a couple give you a physical camera cover.

@MrDooom6 жыл бұрын
"you even have to pay for it if you attend this festival" - They were given out free to attendees of EMF, so I don't know what you're talking about there. "it's not even a badge" - It shows the wearer's name (twice!) and is worn around the neck. It is therefore a conference badge.
@raykent32116 жыл бұрын
Most of the attendees don't have a mobile phone, so it's useful. Maybe next time they'll make an edible one for hungry people.

@Juansonos6 жыл бұрын
Power isn't the point here. EMF (as I understand it, having never been) is a maker/tinkerer event. The point is to have something cool to make and play with. You have a hand in its final creation and you can see what you can do/have it do within it's limitations.
@NaR00W6 жыл бұрын
@@Juansonos I'm not saying power is the point. But you have something better and more tinkerable, from 10 years ago that you could use instead. Where learning to program it would be an actual benefit to know. There's nothing that stands out, at all.

I know this channel isnt about politics but please inform yourself about articles 11 and 13 that were recently passed by the EU. It will affect everyone worldwide and I predict it will be not in a good way. This needs to be adressed and if possible stopped. Freedom of speech of the EU (and beyond) is on the line.
