Edinburgh is renowned for its rich history, cultural festivals, and architectural splendor. Scotland’s compact capital houses iconic buildings including a medieval Old Town and elegant Georgian New Town with gardens and neoclassical buildings. The General Society of Mechanics and Tradesmen, along with the The American-Scottish Foundation and The Royal Oak Foundation, invite you to join Christina Sinclair, Director of Edinburgh World Heritage (EWH), as she delves into the fascinating world of preservation in the UNESCO Old and New Towns of Edinburgh World Heritage Site, sharing the crucial work EWH undertakes to preserve this historic treasure.
Ms. Sinclair explains the initiatives that protect the unique character of Edinburgh, and how Edinburgh World Heritage promotes traditional trades and empowers communities by providing them with the expert advice and funding necessary to retain the historical character of their homes and businesses. She also describes the transformative "12 Closes Project" which is an initiative to revitalize and illuminate some of Edinburgh's most intriguing and lesser-known historical passageways.
In addition, Christina Sinclair celebrates the deep-rooted connections between Scotland and North America, and how historical preservation efforts in Edinburgh resonate with communities across the Atlantic.

Utilizing her background in architectural design (University of Edinburgh) and a Masters in European Urban Conservation, she has dedicated herself to positively and proactively managing change in historic places and has assumed major public sector roles as well as led major private sector restoration projects.
