I experienced the same nonsense with my Cannondale CAAD X a few years ago. I was never notified but I came across a posting on line about a recall of the carbon fork “that resulted in at least one death” I brought it back to the shop that sold it to me only to be told that they no longer sold Cannondales and their rep no longer returned their calls. I found the closest Cannondale dealer and he told me that he could handle the recall but I would have to pay $120. for them to cut the steerer and install the fork. I called Cannondale customer service and they set the shop owner straight about how recalls work. The fork took 5 months to be shipped and it sat at the dealership with no name on it until I called for a status update. Long story short, it took 6 months for my recall to be satisfied.

I took my Labomba in a week after the recall notice and got my replacement back in 6 weeks. The bike shop was in a small village in Nova Scotia so it could be that there are less recalls in my area. The bike was a few weeks later then GT's ETA. Many people on reddit have had issues with the replacement frame having bad threads in the chain tensioners or bottom bracket thread/machining issues. My bottom bracket doesn't have enough room left on the threads for the locknut. Other that that I love the new frame. Glass black with copper logos. Look sick! Hopefully they hook you up soon and they've corrected the sloppy replacements.

I dropped my DAVE off in early March and was initially told I would have a new frame by May. A couple weeks later the shop calls me and says that I wouldn’t get a new frame until October because I was so far down the waitlist. The shop was great and gave me in store credit on the bike and I picked up a NORCO FS 2 on sale, which is a really fun bike so far, and I get to get out and ride in our Canadian summer!

I personally don't like giving bike shops my business. I'd rather invest in tools and work on my bikes myself. The tools are usually cheaper than the cost of labor at bike shops and I don't have to wait two plus weeks to ride my bike. Also, there have been too many times where a bike shop mechanic treated me like I was an idiot before I even got to talk to them. Maybe it's just the bike shops in my city, but they really turned me off from giving them my business. I know people say we should support our local bike shops, but if I'm trying to save money and can learn to wrench on my bikes myself, I don't see why I should deal with the rudeness, inconvenience, and high cost that come with giving bike shops my business. Sorry for the rant, but you dealing with the bike shop keeping your bike for so long and not updating you triggered me, haha. I hope they make it right and get you a new frame soon!

I 100% agree, my friend got ripped off as he didn't know as much about mountain bikes, and he bought a hardtail from a shop. He told me the guy selling it to him said the bike had air suspension. The front fork is a suntour xcm30. How do you not know that's a coil fork if you WORK at the bike shop?! And it would have been 300$ cheaper to buy it online, and he told my friend "you won't get a deal like this online!" I lost my faith in my local bike shop. Plus I have a lot more fun working on my own bike.

@riggedupgaming It's typically cheaper to buy bikes and bike parts online. I'm sorry your friend got scammed. I always advise friends and family looking to get into bikes to ask me before they buy anything, and I advise them against going to bike shops. I'd feel guilty letting them pay $25 for a new innertube and installation. I wish more people new $7, a youtube video, and five minutes is all it takes to change an inner tube.

@@RuezgaDaniel yeah, I wish I could have been there with him when he bought it, but he's been enjoying it and riding with me so it's not so bad. and I always try to show people how to fix their bikes as I fix them too, it makes so much sense as 90% of normal fixes are super easy once you have the knowledge!

I mean if a bike shop proves itself less than trustworthy then absolutely don't support them, sounds like you're not the only one with negative experiences. And it's great to know how to work on your own bike too! But I love my local bike shop and want to support them, I've gotten all my bikes there over the last couple years and they provide excellent service. Plus putting on events and bringing the local cycling community together. Heck, idk if I would have gotten into mountain biking if I didn't go to my local shop and end up walking out with the hardtail I still own and love, I would have been too overwhelmed trying to pick the right bike off the internet when I didn't have any mountain bike knowledge.

It will still end up being a good deal...eventually...Go for it on whatever other channels you want to do, I've found that most members only type of channels don't generate much traffic, but if it creates enough revenue for you to make it make sense then go for it if you want. I think there's opportunity for you to grow this channel, keep posting reviews of new or different equipment, make sure to name it in the title so the search algorithms pick them up, arrange more rides with others, etc. If you want to start learning how to service your stuff yourself, there's a bunch of opportunity there, though I don't think that interests you much. I get it if you're kind of burning out on this stuff, taking filming equipment out whenever you ride kind of kills the fun of it I'm sure.

I'm new to this stuff so I'm not really familiar with how these kinds of recalls work but I have been working in the automotive industry for over 13 years and 12 of those have been at a dealership. It seems recalls are sent out before all the ducks are in a row in terms of the remedy. Whether it be parts availability, or shipping logistics, or even the remedy itself. They'll send out the recall, customers call to get it fixed, and then they have to wait because there's nothing the dealers can do at the moment. It's frustrating, I know but you're just going to have to be patient. A phone call or email letting you know what the situation is would probably have been a good thing but other than that Matty, just bear with them.
