I start on pole then on the first turn some noob hits me from behind, i touch the wall, take 11 sec penalty and my rating is gone. What is the point of taking the pole position if slower cars refuse to brake properly and use you as a safety net during the turns. There must be a system that matches the speed of crashing cars. If the back hitting car exceeds a given speed limit then that user must be regarded as a trolling racer, must be disqualified from that race immediately and his/her rating must be punished as well. I agree with a rather large penalty for a punt which causes the front car to go off track, but a disqualification is rather draconian. Perhaps after several incidents should someone either get disqualified or receive a drive through penalty to take that person out of the mix and relegate them to the back of the field/no mans land.

What drives me mad about online sport is the frequency of other players making careless mistakes normally due to late braking . Too often you get taken out from behind within the 1st two laps and get wrongly penalised in the process, or get taken out because the dude decides to plant the throttle when he loses the car instead of doing whats necessary to gain back control. Too many unguided missiles getting grouped with clean drivers. Maybe 2 out of 5 races i manage to get a fair chance. The penalty system must definitely be tweeked and possibly the matching algarithm improved to include more variables that will result in a more suited group of players. Surely there must be a consequence for any player who ruins other players races i mean they have to be doing this often if they are competing in these higher classes. How can so many players that make these types of rookie mistakes possibly be grouped with so many clean racers? The system should therefore consider the players overall driving skill and online behaviour in the matching process. Otherwise you have loads of clean drivers getting pissed off by a shitty matching system! Love the game and the effort thats gone into to it but all that is getting let down by the flawed matching system for online sport which is a huge part of the game?? I've been working on my skills at beating dirty drivers. Really, the best way to avoid them is working on times and getting a pole position every time (obviously), but back to reality... A few things I've done that work, and are completely fair: (1) I hate it when someone uses my car to take a relatively wide turn faster. If I see someone is running to my inside at the top speed I'm at on the outside, it's obvious what their intentions are. I stay matched with them, but I brake just a little bit later and a little harder. 9 out of 10 times, the guy on the inside will end up going out of bounds, and now you're on his inside - and in control. Granted, this maneuver may give you a quarter to half-second delay, but it's better than the time you'd lose if he punts you. (2) Brake Checking: The penalty system has become a little too forgiving of this during the last update. What's worse is, if the brake-checker goes off track, YOU may get the penalty. Concentration is key with these guys. Even if I know someone is dirty, I'll ride their tail close. Generally, my reflexes have been decent enough to hit the brakes when they do, or swerve around them to take their position, but even more importantly - the less distance you are from them, the less hard you'll hit them. It'd be more like a bump-draft, which the game usually forgives. (3) This applies to racing around dirty racers as well as inexperienced drivers: Run time trials on the track by yourself. A lot. The more familiar you are with the track, the more you'll know the right lines. This is, obviously, how to get pole positions and good times - but, when it comes to dirty racers, the more you know the track, the more you know when someone is NOT taking the right lines at the right speed and is about to screw up, or screw you up. It's almost as satisfying as winning when I see someone flying off track because they were getting too aggressive around me and took the wrong lines, or when I fly past someone who tried to crash or pit me, but ended up in the dirt! (4) DON'T fight back. It sucks, but it is what it is - and half the time, it's what dirty drivers are baiting you to do. - Your SR will affect your DR. Clever, trolling dirty racers know how to race dirty without getting penalties; they'll bait you with some taps, then you retaliate with a divebomb, and the joke is on you. If you go into the negative with your SR on a particular race, you will not go up at all for your DR, no matter how well you place at the finish. Bullying your way to the podium may get you wins, but you'll be stuck in lower ranked lobbies forever.The best defense is a good....well, defense. - The aforementioned troll can use the report racer function in the menu and report for dirty racing, retaliation or not. - Don't use chat to reply with profanity or inappropriate verbiage. It's easy enough to call someone out without doing the latter - including by reporting them in the lobby menu for dirty racing. If you throw insults at them about their mother, though, then they can report you - which goes directly to Sony, and they'll suspend you from all online services. Hope this is helpful.

For me, The ultimate way to deal with dirty drivers is to take advantage of them, brake early before T1 / T2 and then just maneuver your way through the chaos gaining some sweet P's . Later on in the race just overtake them , sucsess is the best revenge.

Just come across this vid. Great stuff. My SR rating is usually great (S), but went down 2 levels over a weekend. My DR is (D), and I know this is because of how inconsistent I am, sometimes I finish in top 5 (even get a win now and then), but I do get some awful results and that's because I am a bit OCD, and when picking a car, I will always use the one with the fewest miles driven (dunno why, weird as hell), this vid has shown that not all cars are suited to every track. There are some great tips in this vid, and I will be sure to try them all as I believe I am definitely better than a D rated driver.

Great video Kie. Very helpful. Ive been doing the arcade racing before i go online fo a while now. There is one thing i do that you didn't mention. When I practice offline, i dont put myself on the pole. Ill start out in p11 or further back. That way it helps with overtaking practice. Plus, theres no gurantee you will always be sitting on the pole. Just adding to your great information.

Thanks for the advice. I'm a B aiming for A, think S is probably out of my reach but you never know. I tried Assetto Corsa and PCars 2 a few days ago and the multiplayer standard is awful compared to GT, so won't be playing those again any time soon. Any chance you could do a video on more advanced stuff for improving times. Particularly how to trail brake properly etc. I'm typically 2 seconds off your lap times and would like to know where I lose the time. I try to use your braking points but often take too much speed into the corner so would like to know what I'm doing wrong. A good Vs bad comparison, or something like that would be great. It only takes a few races where you get rammed to hell to to get a DE, I have been up to a AS and down to a DE in two days. Pole on Tokyo inner for 6 races, went into the first corner in the lead and came out last on 5 occasions, one time I got 11 seconds in penalties for being rammed into the wall and other cars when I bounced off it, that was the point when I started to leave races mid race, what was the point carrying on.

john lawrence same here. many times i start on pole then the first corner comes and i brake right at the spot. But... The racers behind me miss the braking point or be too aggressive or etc and hit me. I lose my position and because i touch the wall take a 10 sec penalty. I quite often quit a race, it is not "rage quit" it is "why bother quit". I try to race fair, that means braking before the guy in front of me so I don't hit him, it's the players behind me who have no sense of racing fair as they will just ram you out of the way. I have now started to report players, whether this does any good I don't know, but something must be done about these guys. I was in a race the other day and came up against the player in 4th, I went to overtake him on a straight and he side swiped me off the track. Karma, oh karma, it is so satisfying when you get to the end of the race and he plummets down the rankings due to all the penalties he has acquired, will they ever learn?

Hi Fizz826. If you go to Friends or Top 10 rankings once you've loaded your race, select the racer (with X) who's ghost you want and it will give you the option of playing the replay or loading their ghost. If it still doesn't work you may have "ghost" switched to "off". You can find this in Options when you're at the screen to enter race, change car etc. Hope this helps.

I've been doing sport mode now for several days and have gone from an EC rating to DS in the space of about 10 races, I concentrate more on staying out of the way of drivers that are a bit more consistent at hitting fast lap times and as a result my SR rank is S (prob wont stay like that too long though).The race I'm doing is the daily race on Suzuka (gr.3 class) and I'm using the r8 lms, my personal best lap is 2.02.304 which normally puts me in the top 6 for qualifying, its very taxing however trying to go quicker, I'm not sure if the Audi is the best choice for the track but its what I'm most comfortable with.

Sometimes I just skip qualifying. IMO it's better to be last and avoid people rear ending you than starting in the middle of the pack and getting sandwiched between everything. People are bound to quit the race, so you're guaranteed to increase your position just from that. And, if you drive clean, you can avoid all of those crashes in front of you and climb the leaderboard.

So my DR is still at D because I was being bumped around and because I focused too much on passing people, my passes weren't always that clean. However I just did a clean 17 lap race and placed 2nd to last, however, my SR got from D to A in one race!

For consistency TRY really hard to do 10 consecutive laps in the free practice without crashing. Then rest a bit, drink water, pee, etc before starting. Don't practice any more, just wait for the race relaxed.

That means that 1 lap around the track is equivalent to 9 laps of fuel usage in real life, or if fuel usage was set to 1x. Same as with tires.

I have to ask, do you use a racing wheel? I have been playing since december now and i have gotten my sportsmanship rating to S but i cant get my driver rating above D and i am consistently 12th or 14th in the grid, occasionally higher but i feel like i am unable to progress. The amount of un deserved penalties for someone slamming into the back of me not using their brakes is just shocking and very frustrating, especially when they get no penalty!! Im thinking maybe its because i use a dualshock controller to play and not a wheel but i dont know. Its getting annoying to the point i may stop playing.

Forget all you know about the DR System, it's as unpredictable and inconsistent as the RNG in lootbased games. I raced alot on GT Sport (442 races complete at the time of writing this) and i've been f$cked by the system alot of the races i've done. I mostly do Race C and for some fun i did alot without a qualifing time so i started P20. I finished the race P7 so i gained 13P in that race. So you would think i got a huge chunk of DR right? Well your wrong i only got a sliver of increase (DR-D/C). The most points you get is when you finish Podium. In lot of the FIA races i got Pole, i get rammed off finish P6 and i LOST a huge chunk of DR. The DR System is broken and needs a fix. The way Poly handles the FIA points is how the regular DR system should be, a fixed amount of DR gain per position. Whats the point of gaining all these positions (mentioned earlier) if the player is not rewarded for it.

Whats the point of racing then in the first place, if the player is not rewarded based on his preformance. Lets say Alonso has to start last due to missing Q. He then finishes the race 1st but does not recieve the points he should with the same reason you said, how rediculous would that be then.

The point you have to understand, and it is a point that most people do not, is that your qualifying time has nothing to do with what position you start on the grid. Your qualifying time is used to seed you with other racers. If your position on the grid is high, then you have a very good chance of winning in that bracket. If your position is low, you will find it much harder. The other night I raced 13 GT3 8-lap races at Mount Panorama. The first two races I never qualified, and climbed through the ranks for a respectable finish, if outside the points. I was not getting many points for those wins though. I decided to skip one race, and concentrate on qualifying, and managed to put a low 2.05.0xx time. Initially for the first few races my time was at the top of the grid, but as I started finishing on the podium, my time started moving down the grid. My average position on the grid was within the top six times, in one race, I was in position eleven! the top time on that grid was almost three seconds faster than my fastest lap time. I did not do so well in that race, finishing sixth, and I noticed that in the very next race, my time was back near the top of the grid. At the end of the night after 13 races, ~104 laps, ~350 miles, and the many clean races, I was almost three quarters of the way through DR B, after starting borderline C. My SR rating which had taken a hammering a few days earlier in the week, dropping to C before I rage quit and then plummeting to D, sprang back up to S in literally one day... The takeaway from all of this is clear to me... Consistency is king. Finish consistently, drive consistently, and drive clean, and you will improve your DR and SR ratings dramatically. If you got out of B last year, you are good, if you dropped down since then you have NO FUCKING CHANCE, this shitshow of a game now just rewards pieces of shit who cheat, and punishes clean drivers with penalties for being divebombed.. I'm an A rank player who got bumped down a few months ago, and I cant get out of C for more than a day, it is NON STOP getting smashed off track, seeing the other (lets be honest, usually italian or spanish) player just drive off, consequence free whilst I get a 5 second pen? You just cant raise your DR in these conditions .seriously, fuck this broken game, I'm saving up for iRacing Sorry for the rant, but 2 years in and it gets worse and worse and worse with every update, it's like they are trying to do an insurance job on their own fucking game. I'm at my limit with this game now, it's just unplayable.

I try my best to be a clean racer, but it is those drivers who don't care who make the game crap. Surely by now Polyphony should have come up with a penalty system that makes them pay, not those of us who try to race clean. I am sick of being side swiped at corners and used as a brake and ending up with penalties, or those who brake test you, or even those who just like to ram you off the track. The penalty system is broken, it does not work, if you are off the racing line and use another car to get around it, you should get the penalty, not the innocent driver you have just side swiped off the track, it would not happen in a real life race, you would be disqualified straight away, get a grip Polyphony, or this is the last GT I buy.

IF RACING I use wheel and most the people in top 10 use wheel 👍 so yes wheel is equal at least, Forza wheel support is awful.

DeZal ofT9design for BOP races it makes no difference as your car is a set weight and power, so most Sport mode races you will find it's not going to do anything, bit of bop is off than it would be 200%

I had the best experience in rating D, S. Now when I'm in B my SR is down to C. My problem is that I can not drive in close traffic without loosing a ton of SR even though I can not figure out way I getting panelized when I'm the one getting rammed. And I tend to loose more SR when I try to keep my distance and not overtake anyone. So how the hell do you improve your SR when you drive with people that can not drive in a strait line at all?

Never mind I figured it out my self. Drive the slower daily race A. The N100 cars is slow enough for you to drive cleaner easier, allot easier, in heavy traffic then Gr.3.

Dion Neeuwveld I practice a lot. I see the difference in group 2 and 1 only. The rest, I get first place with controller so don't worry. Oh, don't buy the T-80, it has no force feedback, if u spend more than $50 then get something good. FFB
