Skoda coming to Gran Turismo should be a big deal, with a rich rally heritage and even exploits in the sports car racing world as well, not to mention some great vRS production models in their modern era, but thanks to their debut being a Vision GT - and even moreso an electric car - reactions have been mixed...
''Drawing on the rich heritage of Škoda Motorsport, the Škoda Design Team has created a visionary study of a single-seater, all-electric racing concept car: the Škoda Vision Gran Turismo. Created exclusively for Gran Turismo, this concept represents Škoda’s first inclusion in the Gran Turismo series. Inspired by the Škoda 1100 OHC Spyder racing car from 1957, a vehicle originally developed for the prestigious 24-hour Le Mans race, the Vision Gran Turismo is a modern tribute to this legendary racing car and promises an immersive and responsive driving experience.
This racing concept pays homage to its legendary predecessor as well as incorporating the defining features of Škoda’s Modern Solid design language, as seen in its T-shaped headlights. What’s more, the Vision Gran Turismo showcases two distinct liveries: one reflecting the heritage of the famous Škoda 130 RS racing car from 70´s, and the other inspired by the Vision 7S concept car, which embodies Škoda´s Modern Solid Design philosophy.
The Škoda Vision Gran Turismo boasts a sleek exterior with crisp, clear lines and pronounced edges, mirroring the aesthetics of current Formula E racers. Its design is optimised for superior handling through active aerodynamics. Features like the aerodynamically sculpted body, and the striking, adaptive two-piece rear wing, all work together to dynamically adjust to driving conditions and boost performance. The vehicle incorporates independent wishbone push-rod type suspension system, mounted to a carbon monocoque similar to those found in Formula E cars, improving high-speed stability, reducing body roll, and lowering the vehicle’s centre of gravity.
Efficiency and excellent driving dynamics are at the heart of the Škoda Vision Gran Turismo design. It is equipped with two 200 kW (268.2 BHP) electric twin motors, one on each axle, delivering a combined power output of 800 kW (1,071 BHP). The inclusion of all-wheel drive with intelligent torque distribution across both axles ensures a balanced and responsive driving experience. This is complemented by a smooth, single-speed transmission, providing seamless acceleration.
The cockpit emphasises technical precision and driver-centric design. Drawing inspiration from Formula One, the driving position is ergonomically tailored to fit the pilot’s physique, ensuring optimal comfort and control. The driver steers with a futuristic, flattened steering wheel, directly influenced by Gran Turismo 7 as a dominant design highlight of the interior. Additionally, the Škoda Vision Gran Turismo is equipped with onboard proximity sensors that alert the driver to nearby vehicles, significantly reducing the risk of side collisions. The interior also boasts ultra-lightweight titanium for its connecting elements and pedals, which are anchored to the floor and come with a titanium grip footplate for greater stability. Safety is paramount, with the driver secured by a six-point seat belt and surrounded by a lightweight carbon structure. This frame not only provides maximum rigidity but also optimises passive safety features. Made from carbon fibre, the steering framework further underscores the vehicle’s blend of high performance and safety.''

I really wish Skoda were featured in more racing games! Hopefully this addition will lead to more Skoda cars being added in the future! Id love to see some of the WRC ones specifically!

Gran turismo has this thing with racing the slower cars, but to other games it makes no sense to have brands like skoda in.

After using this car in 4 different races, I totally agree. It’s heavy, has too much understeer, and is basically a once and done for me. Unless PD comes out with a one make race for it, I think it’s quickly forgotten by most players.

I'm gonna be honest, if the game treated EVs more respectfully and the VR esque HUD that covers the sky when racing was purely optional all the time, this could've been a contender for my favourite VGT. It has all the stuff I love about them. Open top, mid seater, minimalist HUD, and cool looks. Although yes, I do think a Rally based Skoda would be more warranted, but VW and Peugeot shows you don't need to restrict to 1 VGT idea, so Skoda could've given us 2 different concepts if they really wanted (fat chance they do though lmao)

I think a 1000 hp rally machine would have been much better received. I loved using the Tajima E Runner in GT6, so having a Skoda VGT with that likeness would have been cool. But instead, it’s a missed opportunity

Sorry to break the immersion, but WRC era for Skoda is coming to a end. Since 90s, WRC project is mostly a VAG group side project. Right now without supporting from the top and not so flashy performance on the rally stage, Skoda is quietly and slowly pulling out of WRC... They're looking for a way out. VGT is always a glance for direct and future for the brand, not about doing "fan service" So this is why they took the inspiration from 1100 OHC -- a actual Czech Republic Sport Car and combine with electrify touch. That's where Skoda is heading to.

Guys, I don’t understand why so many folks feel the need to hate on the VGT cars. They're simply a partnership between PD and loads of manufacturers, with the idea being for each manufacturer to create a design based on THEIR brand identity, design, future desires for technology, and performance. This partnership, which is over a decade old, is a GREAT thing for PD, Auto makers, and us.... because it provides PD an opportunity to get more credibility from these manufacturers, which is a WIN for us. ( Most likely makes it easier for PD to get licensing from new and existing manufacturers). I will add something to think about though... imagine if there was an opportunity for enthusiasts to create, and/or make suggestions for a concept car that could be implemented in Gran Turismo some day.

Players usually hate because the time spent putting them into the game could have been spent on new car debuts, or returning fan favourites such as the Bentley Speed 8, Toyota 7, Renault Espace F1 etc

The issue with VGTs is two-fold. The first reason is that like HSG mentioned, they're treated the same as the other, real-life road cars in the game (in updates VGTs are never treated as a 'bonus' car, e.g. the Bulgari) - in place of much requested fan favourites. Secondly, despite PD treating them like other cars, because like you mentioned it's up to the manufacturer to decide what performance/features the VGT has (e.g. like the Skoda being a 1000hp electric car), VGTs are rarely integrated into the game very well, despite being treated as if they're as of much use as other road cars in the game. Another example is the tomahawk which just acts as a ridiculous progression skip, and is by far the fastest car in the game, but it's capped at 1 million credits (whereas a usable supercar like the 911 GT1 is on a monthly rotation and costs 8 times that for some arbitrary reason).

@HSGAutomotive I actually believe that with the partnerships in mind, there must be some window of time PD is expected to implement a VGT, once it's completed by a company. I believe that the VGT project is not a waste of time, because in the long run, as I mentioned, it will open the door for PD to include much more cars from various companies. The partnerships are a benefit, or investment for the future of the game.

When I went to buy this car, I was immediately disappointed because it's a Road Car. That confirmed to me that it would be completely useless. Don't get me wrong, there are EV racecars that are useless, like the ID.R unfortunately, but there are 2 EV VGT Racecars that are genuinely useful for Money Grinding at Sardegna; the Hyundai N and the Audi E-tron, the Hyundai especially since it gets 6 laps before needing to recharge. The Skoda gets 1 and a half, if that. I have always been a fan of VGT cars, and I'm very much against the notion that they're all useless simply because it isn't true, most of them have decent to amazing use cases, and I was hoping the Skoda wouldn't join the likes of the XR-PHEV and the Copen RJ in the next to useless tier, but it unfortunately is, with it's only saving grace being it's ability at the VGT events, being a great choice, though outclassed by the Genesis, Peugeot, and both Porsche VGT's. I will say, I understand the logic behind wanting a Rally Skoda VGT, but I personally am grateful that it's a track focused car, 1 because it doesn't further niche this car into Oblivion. 2 because I personally just prefer Tarmac racing to Rally, as well as Skoda sports cars over Skoda Rally cars. And 3, because the Rally cars would have been the obvious choice. Not as many people are familiar with Skods's classic sports cars, and this car taking inspiration from them is a great choice to me as someone who recently gained an appreciation for them. That being said, this is still the highlight for me, it may be useless but it's quite a fun car to drive in my opinion, which only makes it's uselessness more upsetting. I really wish Polyphony would fix EV's because it's just a joke in all honesty. If Forza Motorsport 2023, with all of it's issues, can handle EV's with decent respect in it's career mode, Polyphony can certainly do the same, all they need to do is copy Forza, make EV's viable. If they're so obsessed with reality, then they should fix their EV's. I'm tempted to actually test all the EV's or at least some of them to test their range against the real world cars, because it simply isn't realistic to have something like a Tesla run out of power after 4 laps of Sardegna when my own Model S of 7 years has 250 miles of range, which was higher as new, when Sardegna 800pp has 8x fuel drain and 250÷8= 31.25, which would equal around 10 laps of Sardegna with 8x fuel consumption. Let's inform Kaz that the EV's in his game aren't realistic, maybe he'll fix them after that.

Skoda couldn’t have made a less exciting eneterance than just another vision gt that’s basically same as the porsche: electric, 1000hp, just over a ton, open top, racing tires Maybe 2007 1.2L diesel Fabia? That might have been only thing less exciting, but even that would at least be funny

My favourite conceptually is easily the Chaparral. No rules, all forward thinking 'what-if' ideas, but fits within a believable level of spec and performance for a future car. Plus its from Chaparral who I already love, and it suits their innovation. I think Panoz would probably take a similar approach... My favourite functionally is the Tomahawk X, the fastest car so has plenty of use. And finally my favourite purely for design is actually the Infiniti. Pure art LM55 is great but I don't use it much, and the Jag SVR is the most disappointing given its potential for me

It's just PD making this and other EV and/or VGTs impression so bad, it handles like a train that's the fact, it has the minimalist tuning for sure, it's yet another 4WD EV hot wheels definitely and it's better to do a rally/rallycross reimagination over this but literally having a battery pack with less than 5km endurance?

People hate EVs in most racing and driving games because they're depicted as having no utility compared to their ICE counter-parts. Like you said, if they were presented as a viable choice in endurance races... Having longer battery life as IRL... People would be more apt to at least, try them out instead of immediately write them off. It also doesn't help GT7 isolates a lot of them in their own races where they can't race against other ICE vehicles like VGTs, do. Real life EV manufacturers have proved some EVs can go faster than most supped up ICE cars. So, segmenting them into their own events further perpetuates a false narrative and makes people want to avoid them from the start. By the way, I can't stand the "no soul" comment a lot of gearheads parrot when talking about EVs when the raw performance is what really matters and not how loud it sounds, but I digress.

The main games which I've found to give EV's more use have been FH5, the Taycan and Rimac in particular are monsters, and DriveClub, where the Rimac is a monster there too. And yeah on the point of soul or character, people don't really seem to get that its not the goal, and sometimes EV's actually can be fun, even something like the Jag I-Pace which I featured in Beards 'n Cars, which was actually just a good car to drive, which happened to be electric

​@@HSGAutomotiveIt's interesting that way about the EVs in fh5. They feel pretty fast but they get over PIed for the performance they have which makes them uncompetitive usually. This isn't caused by the cars themselves but how the game handles EV power trains. They're treated the exact same as regular engines so they don't have the low down power boost they should have and have a more traditional power band that increases as you reach the top of the gear.

Imagine if this car was powered by a screaming v6 turbo engine or even a modified toyota racing engine instead of being electric. Ik ik.... im just beating a dead horse, but it really takes the enjoyment out of it when all I hear is a whining with growl.

its strange to me how bad the handling/cornering is with vgts in general.. okay, I only tried a couple but they are bad in corners, losing much more speed than racing cars with the same tires… ok, they are professionaly tuned race cars, but when you have 1000 bhp, its not a city car for groceries, would expect better cornering… not complaining, all cars are somewhat fun, just surprised
