I take a look at the Natural Vision Remastered mod for GTA V in my Quest 2 using Air Link. I've received a number of comments over the past few months asking me to test this mod in VR, and I've finally managed to check it. It didn't disappoint!

So I'm a trucker and I got a MSI raider several months ago and I've just been accumulating a lot of stuff but never actually getting it all together because stuff would be strewn about between my truck and my house but I just got my router set up on the truck with my VR headset on board it's all set up and the laptop is packed full of awesome games now I just need to get a couple months sorted mainly for MechWarrior 5, and I gotta admit, I can't wait to get back to cyberpunk 2077 as I sat it down on just after release(before I even had my RTX rig) to specifically play in VR and only have about level eight or so in each class... That's to say nothing of all the other steam VR stuff in Oculus quest to native crap that I have waiting for me. Once all that is sorted and I'm finally ready it's going to be all about DCS and helicopter combat in war thunder. 😘👌 But now you got me thinking hey there's Grand theft Auto and there's risk of rain too and there's Red Dead redemption 2 and elden ring and and and... XD Did I mention I'm at our 14 and a half for work today? There's a reason it's taking me forever to develop my own projects. Would you be interested in playing a Sugar glider dynasty life simulator with deformable terrain and procedurally evolved ecosystems? How about life as a singularity elemental, consuming those ecosystems in a micro to macro scale similar to spore, with the intent being that you can craft things you've consumed, from the matter you consume. Custom molecules, and genetic splicing? Why not? Anyone remember the Shadowrun fps game on the Xbox? How about a remaster and in VR? Just imagine what's going to be possible when the Oculus pro comes out with color pass through and XR games... I recently saw an ad on Facebook for a unity and unreal engine plug-in to add y depth support for projects that utilize IRL map data, such as Pokemon Go... Things for the indie VR dev are about to get LIT. 🔥

Just installed this mod for VR and yeh the visual difference is insain. No FPS drops either on my old codger 1080ti. Solid 80 fps everywhere. Lucky i use a rift s because i dont think i could get a constant 120 with the Index. Not bad for x2.500 res which looks close to flat. Havin a better time than Cyberpunk in VR too.

So I had a great experience with GTA V on my 3080 and reverb g2 + this mod. I was actually able to get a great resolution (I think 3200x3200) at almost 90 fps. Had to do a slight overclock on the 3080 and mess with the game settings a ton. I am now playing RDR2 with the mod and i highly recommend it. The double vision issue has been improved a lot. I can get a very rough 60 fps at about 3300x3300 resolution and medium settings. Still looks great and I am sure I will set it up better in the future. If you are targeting a lower res it should be very good! Only issue I have is the insanely high resolutions this mod requires to get a clear picture with the G2. For example I have tested up to 3800x3800 and it looks like what 3200x3200 looks on steamVR (super clear). Also something like 3000x3000 on Lukes VR just looks very blurry and incomparable to steamVR 3000x3000. I think this has something to do with the way he sets things up with resolution scaling. EDIT: When I am talking about all the resolutions I mean the final resolution, after resolution scaling has been applied.

did you put 3200x3200 in the gta xml file or steam vr custom resolution

@@terrablader This mod works with resolution/frame scaling. In very silly terms this (kind of but not really) means that the game renders in the resolution of the xml file in windowed mode on your monitor. The actual resolution that is sent to your headset is a multiple (multiplied by the frame scaling number) of this resolution. So to get the resolution you want you need to figure out what scaling you need to set in the game settings to get your final number. For example: stock scaling of the mod should be 5/2 (= 2.5). So you can conclude that 3200 / 2.5 = 1280. So with 1280x1280 in the xml file you should get 3200x3200. You can double check with the built in tools while running the game. The trick is finding a frame scaling and resolution setting combination that doesn't crash the game and doesn't cause issues in your desktop because of window size. Hope this helps explain things and you can really understand everything by reading the whole "readme" in lukes github page for the gtav mod.

@@terrablader Glad this helps but just to make sure you shouldn't change any steam resolution settings for this. It is all done from the xml and in-game settings.

I am playing through with a 4090 and I nearly 0 ghosting, in time as hardware improves cards become older and new cards hit ever higher one day we will run it at 180 FPS so we can hit a native 90 with all bells and whistles

I used this vr mod with the force feedback steering wheel mod and stick shift mod for my racing simulator rig also modded with a inside and out very detailed vehicle model I found someone made of my truck IRL "How neat is that?" driving in first person on gtav its so wonderful feels amazing. A bit too blurry for long term play but I Highly recommend trying this especially like I did if you have the gear. Im on a quest 2 i5 8400 1080ti.

Have you tried disabling the alternate rendering. Pressing f11 then 2 on the numpad. It takes away a bit of the 3d effect but it's more playable imo.

@@steveclark9934 no problem, I hear a lot of people having problems with the fuzziness and this solves that issue, but it does make the interiors of vehicles less 3d. I think the trade off is worth it. Played a good bit yesterday with the force feedback wheel and a hotas. The new force feedback with MT mod feels better than it did. I have an 8400 with a 1080ti too, but I was playing on my 9600k with a 3060ti in a rift s. They're fairly equal setups. What racing sims do you play?

My wheel is the only thing I don't have on my truck ATM, but I do have the stuff to set it up on(I'm a trucker)... Can't wait to finalize all the other gears setup so I can bring that onboard for sim racing. I tried it on my last laptop with an amd integrated(decent but not very well suited to VR) and my Dell visor and it was cool, but definitely was a precursor to what I'm doing now(MSI Raider, 2070S, dedicated router for Q2 air link/etc)... I can only imagine how much work I'm going to do recreating my route(basically I5 Bellingham Washington to central point Oregon and I90 Seattle to Lewiston Idaho. Then all that will be left will be to dial in the side routes out to bend over Mt Hood and sisters, and the Spokane Ellensburg spurs and I'll be ready to put the supercars to the test. I'm thinking of modding the trucking simulators, but everything is scaled weirdly so I may just cull data from Google Geo Services and set it up all in different circuits in something like automobilista or the 6 other great racing Sims available... Now if I could work less than 16 hours today, that would be cool. 🙄 TLDR: Totally, dude. 😂

im having troubles i thought i followed all the instructions but when i load i see the game on my pc fine but on the quest 2its just the mini map start menu and the rest is black, been trying to figure it out. if anyone has tips it would be nice to get some other input

In the GTA mod, only the config file will affect the resolution in the VR headset.

I tried to install naturalvision remastered after getting the vr mod to work but it kept crashing the game. Im thinking installing naturalvision first would be the way to go?

Good question, and my gut tells me I installed the VR mod first as I had already tried that separately. However, I did a complete reinstall of Windows around the time I made this video, so it’s possible I did the Natural Vision mod first. Apologies, that’s not much help, but it was a while ago now.

No I wasnt able to get naturalvision remastered to work with the real vr mod. instead I used virtual desktop with just the regular game with natural vision remasterd. its not like true vr more like 3d but its pretty much the same and runs better, and you can use mods. but i think there is a way to get the real mod to work with nve remastered as Ive seen some postst that some can do it. Idk how though.

I'm replaying this beautiful game in VR now and it's amazing, but there is one big problem with sniping through scope. It is almost impossible to aim with sniper rifle. And I'm wondering is there any solution for this?

Apologies, but I can't really provide any help on this point. I'm unable to get it working correctly in VR anymore due to the fact that I own the Rockstar Launcher version, and I'm not able to easily roll it back and use the legacy mod on it unfortunately.

Unfortunately the GTA V VR mod has been taken down due to intervention by Take 2. Apparently there are ways to rollback to previous versions of GTA V and use a version of the mod to still get it working, but I’ve been unable to achieve this.

I don’t own GTA V on Steam. Everything I’m showing here is via the Rockstar launcher version. It won’t work with GTA online due to anti-cheat, but the single player works fine.

It also doesn't 'not' mean realistic graphics. I take your point, but this is the best possible in a 2013 game when using mods in 2022. I perhaps should have edited the thumbnail to read "Ultra Realistic Graphics (within reasonable expectations of what is possible when modding a 9-year-old game with current graphical shortcuts in order to emulate slight realism with an absolute focus on how good wet roads can look within this context)".
