also it actually makes the game look worse, for example when you drive under a bridge or into a tunnel you can see the game slowly recalculating the shadows so the paint goes all pixelated.

All games should have Performance RT as an option. This way no games would have to compensate as much between FPS/resolution while targeting 60 fps/4k res.

HAAHHAHA They only implemented "ray traced sun shadows" and nothing else. They honestly could of made the game look ALOT better by adding ray traced global illumination, ray traced reflections and ray traced local shadows. Legit the ray traced sun shadows barely does anything except make the sun shadows look slightly more real. If they ever port it to PC they should really ask Nvidia for help implementing all the ray traced effects seen above. (ray traced global illumination, ray traced reflections and ray traced local shadows) That will make the game look 10x better.

Agreed, RTAO, RTGI and RT Reflections has the biggest impact on visuals. This update is not free...feels like a scam. Next gen my ass, Rockstar.

@@CasualG-mer I agree with you that it should be free, but it is actually a good update compared to previous console versions. From 30 to 60fps and 1080p to 4k is a BIG difference. Could they have done more? Absolutely. But they pretty much did the bare minimum for a good update.

It's not too noticeable of a difference in most cases but the shadows and lighting during the day are done much better on the RT mode than Performance mode. RT mode also using very slightly better texture filtering in most cases. To me they both run the game at 60FPS so why not use the RT mode over plain performance mode? I don't think they needed to split this into 2 modes since there isn't a noticeable framerate difference between them. Not like the RT mode runs slower than the Performance mode. Just makes the resolution more dynamic to sometimes have it higher then the straight performance mode. Both however maintain the 60fps so it's a no brainer to leave RT mode on for the little improvements in my opinion. Not sure if the game always had these either but there reflections actually work in the side mirrors on cars better now? Was that always a thing I was just stupid not to notice how well it works till now or is that new?

Yes, rt mode makes the resolution floating but dynamic resolution could also drop below 1440p. Not just up to 4k, also at the bottom. Rockstar is lazy

The fact that there is only RT Sun Shadows in this...I will stick to performance. Not worth it because it doesn't actually improves the visual but frame rate is smooth though.

RT will drop down to as low as 15fps during scenes with multiple explosions. There are videos showing the fps live time.

performance > performance RT i know people think performance RT is the best one but i hate it because its all the ps5 "enhancements" at 60 fps instead of 30 (like motion blur, vaseline, and those ray tracing shadows) Performance is just normal gta 5.

I don't really recognise the raytracing, but that can have to do with the fact I'm not used to raytraced shadows. I'm used to its reflection and global illumination. (which is awesome btw) BUT! I can tell you it looks gorgeous, and the performance-mode doesn't look that good. So the raytracing has an effect on the total image. It seems like Rockstar for this next gen-update, went for the A Link to the Past on Switch-look... The way the level of detail (LoD) comes out of focus, into focus. What it does in the first place, is showing how much knowledge you have for the system you develop for, and that - undoubtedly - is something Nintendo and Rockstar like to show off. This is Rockstar's way to practice/master a certain part of the graphics for their future titles. With GTA3 we had a 3D-environment. With Vice City, we saw that 3D-environment played out, with the added luxury of adding some creativity. (since the engine was developed with GTA3, with Vice City, it's fleshed out) Then with San Andreas, they created complicated (volumetric) clouds, to be taken over by the game-industry, and to be used in future GTA-titles. (take a look at the awesome 🌩 in GTA V, Rockstar laid the basics for that lightning with San Andreas) With GTA 4, they created the Euporia-system/engine, which is now standard in the game industry. With GTA V, the San Andreas-concept came fleshed out, and add the theoretical culmination of their work. (more clothes to choose from, driving-model, more colorful) GTA VI will be a little bit less creatively, since they need to get to run the next gen-engine in the first place. (but since it's a next gen-engine, we are happy with that in the first place, until later, when the new graphics wear of, it becomes clear there isn't much to do instead of walking around) Once established, they can add ideas like they did with Vice City. Rockstar is still a pioneer in the game-industry, next to Nintendo, and I hope they are fighting internally for years, to keep this position.

@@joeyalfonso3980 yeah, in THIS particular case, you'd have to be stupid to choose fidelity mode. Just like there is little difference in the modes shown, the same goes for fidelity mode. It's a little bit sharper and more crisp due to being a native 4k, but performance is also in 4k, just upscaled so slightly softer. Fidelity mode gives like a 10% increase in visuals for a 50% reduction in performance. It's a MASSIVE downgrade in exchange a minimal difference.
