Thats if the story mode is bad or the online sucks so hard. My guess is that gta 5 online will barely receive updates and all the consoles gta online players will shift to gta 6 online because that will be the new improved and constantly updated mode. Gta online is huge and a lot of the players will play the new thing. Also, Rockstar will probably release a pc port of the game like a year or 2 later of its release, so if the game is good, it will gain massive popularity due to the majority of the market having relatively strong PCs in 2027. I don't see it failing unless the story is really really bad, the game can still pull it off if it has a mediocre story because the open world aspect of it will probably make for it but if its like insanely bad the game will fail so hard, it will have good saies in the first day but it won't make shit in the long run, of course the game having a trash story is extremely unlikely and we will probably get a banger.

Also I didn't really look into cost of development but a quick look shows the most expensive games around 2005 cost about 120 million with games like Halo and Grand Theft Auto, while the most expensive games to develop now are around 300-400 million. Cyberpunk costing 500 million So yes development costs have more than doubled. Although I do think it is weird that there is just a standard cost when we have games that cost 400 million and offer 100+ hours of gameplay and games that cost 80 million and provide 10-15 hours of gameplay and they cost the same. There should be more variety than just one standard price.

I think this is blown way out of proportion... Sure it will sell more copies than ever but just because more people play games than ever. But gaming preferences are also more diverse than ever. It is no longer the case that most people play roughly the same big game that came out. I doubt most of the primarily switch/mobile phone players, or retro gamers will touch gta6. I honestly doubt that the fortnite/roblox kids would care much about it. And remember that gta used to be huge with kids and young adults in the ps2 era. Quite honestly I feel that there is a trend to move away from big open world sandbox games... It’s estimated it cost $2 billion to make GTA VI. GTA V cost $60 in 2013, in today’s dollars that’s $80. GTA VI costing $80 means it’s just as expensive to buy as GTA V was when it released. there's this thing in economics, I forget what its called been a long time from uni. that if everyone's expected price is as bad as the current standard, if you price it higher sometimes will alienate your guaranteed buyers but if you lower it by 10 or 20%, not only will you keep ALL your guaranteed buyers + over the fence buyers expecting the bad price. To be fair, (I think Rockstar has gone the way of Rocksteady where the head guys are gone and the parent company is calling the shots creatively and that will ruin them) If anyone deserves an increased base price, it’s Rockstar with GTA and Red Dead. Playing something like Cod or whatever and comparing it to Red Dead and GTA5 at the same price makes those games feel like you’re stealing. GTA5 has provided a decades worth of entertainment, Red Dead 2 is an absolute masterpiece in every sense. These games are not like the others. AAA price point has been 60 dollars for so long that 60 dollars used to be like 120 dollas, with such a collosal release they have every reason to claw back profit especially because they probablt wont even see any substantial drop in sales from it.

Games were priced that way because you had physical copies....they said prices would drop when physical copies are gone.....lies. Gta 5 has made 8.5 billion world wide they can easily make the game 20-40 $ and still see billions in profit

I’m not making any kind of prediction, but personally I hope it fails just so the industry might actually try and stop being so predatory to us consumers, especially if they decide to hike the base price even higher because that just lets every other publisher think it’s okay and before we know it it’s the new norm.

The premium edition or what ever it will be called that has early access will definitely be around 200+ canadian dollars, the premium version of ac shadows and starwars outlwars is around 185$ canadian, Rockstar can easily get away with a 200- 220 for the selling price of a premium edition because they are Rockstar and people will buy it regardless

Listen, the games are quality products, so you can have the stance that if any company can try to get some more money, it should be the company that makes really good games, I get it, but the way they monetize gta online is scummy. It has to be worth the $80/$120 though. If I’m paying $80 for the base game, I want a locked, stable 60/120 framerate video game that is polished and not buggy as shit on day one requiring 6-8 months of patches to fix. Unfortunately, I can almost guarantee that we won’t get this. Infact, I will put money down on the fact that GTA 6 won’t release finished. It’s going to be an absolute dumpster fire on release and it won’t be worth $80 until it’s completely finished 2 years after release

It makes no sense at all. The entire reason why GTA6 has been delayed as long as it has. Is clearly because of uncertainty, Take Two and potentially Rockstar themselves are likely unsure if they can produce a GTA of the same quality now that Dan, Lazlow and many others are gone. The trailer released already feels like they don't 'get it' so to release an 80 dollar potentially mediocre product would not only tank Take Two stock but potentially kill all of Rockstars good will after awful things like GTA Online business practices, Red Dead 2 Online, the GTA PS2 trilogy remakes and then GTA6.

Had a great time with GTA3, VC and SA when they came out a long time ago but after that I got real tired of the formula. Never even finished 4 or 5. 6 would have to bring a lot of innovation to get my interest.

I really would not mind paying that price point for a generational game like GTA. Video games are the 1 product category that has not been affected by inflation. Video games today cost the same, if not less than they did when I was a kid 20 years ago. The competition in the industry is actually incredible and is the cause of these low prices. An example that I always used to justify the cost of a video game is movie prices. It costs $15 to go and see a 2 hour movie. It costs $60 to purchase a newly released video game that will give you 100+ hours of entertainment. The value in video games has always been there. And then you have events like the Steam Summer Sale where you can buy those $60 games for $10-20. There is no other industry in the world that provides a value proposition this good.

I enjoyed the GTA games but won’t be playing this for a while, if ever. So luckily I won’t be getting early access. But many will and good for them if they want to. We all make choices what we spend money on. Enjoy it.
