In a real RP, if they forgot to read you Miranda rights, they can still (wrongly) hold you in jail. However when the actual court case comes around, if you can convince the judge he didn't read them, or he admits, THAT'S when the charges get dropped.

So reading right doesn't necessarily mean you get off scot free. If they don't ask specific questions about the crime then they don't have to read Miranda. Like if they saw you shoot someone and arrested you without questioning. In this case, since he asked about the bike technically you could get the charges dropped in court. Everything you said would have been suppressed.

These cops are not very good. Homeless people have a union and any time they can they will take the county, cops, or people to court over mistreatment. I have 4 years experience as a homeless person and on top of that in my current job having to deal with homeless people, cops do not usually (95% of the time) take the homeless to jail they drive them to a different spot or let them go for a extremely low bail till their court date. The system doesn't like giving homeless people free food and shelter especially since it's a revolving door. Also since he didn't read you your rights you should not have done any time and you should be able to take grievances aka big money for Jerry being wrongly imprisoned. Just for reference I work as a armed officer for transit in a major city. (Edit since I was writing this during the Jerry part) The cops are terrible here they arrest Chang but not that douche with the car that ran Jerry over twice that is some serious BS. I think people have it out for the Jaboody crew and are trying to milk you raw.

I've been through the legal system quite a lot (before I turned 18). Officer Ryan or whatever his name is sounds 100% like an actual cop. He talks like a cop. All of his phrasing and his smart-ass comments and even his jargon is spot-on. He's either a cop in real life or he's a really good actor and very perceptive. EDIT: The only thing he has worn is if he doesn't read the rights to the perp the charges have to be dropped. An officer can't continue holding the perp until a judge is available. The officer's chief would supercede the officer's decision anyways.
