Dunno if they really underpaid said VAs or if the VAs signed the contracts and them wanted raises. After MC Eiht left, Rockstar used previously recorded lines and spliced them together for his final appearance in Pier 69.

Big Smoke's betrayal is actually foreshadowed from the very beginning. Here are the clues: 1. He didn't attend the Johnson siblings' mom's funeral, instead he waits for Sweet to come home to be killed. The Ballas only target CJ & Sweet on their way home. 2. In the mission "Drive Thru", his ridiculously big order is actually a ruse for the Ballas (whom Big Smoke refuses to kill) to attack Grove Street. When CJ & Sweet talked about their mom's murder, he instead tells everyone to eat their meal. 3. When CJ asked him why he moved to Idlewood, which is Ballas territory, he claims the money he needed to buy the new house is from his late aunt, when the money is actually from the deal with Tenpenny to kill Sweet, not to mention CRASH always coming to his house. 4. He spouts random gibberish during his missions. Also, when Ryder's missions are to restore the Grove Street Families to its former glory, Big Smoke's missions had nothing to do with said gang. 5. His Glendale's license plate reads "A2TMFK", with 2T can either mean 2 ton (He's fat) or two-timing (Traitor). His initials also look suspiscious.

I believe the original plan was to never have Ryder betray Grove Street, all his missions benefited the hood meanwhile Smoke's was more for his personal gain, CJ doesn't even mention his betrayal during this mission only in later missions which I'll assume were recorded after the change in direction. The mission where you kill Ryder, his dialogue sounded more like sound bits rather than actual lines for the mission.

Story wise, Ryder merely did those things to protect himself and subvert expectations. He wasn’t very important in the alliance of Smoke and Tenpenny, which contributed to the crack epidemic. He became relevant later. He was always hostile towards Carl and if you think about it, like Micah he also did questionable things, contrary to his betrayal. Micah convinced Dutch to kill Leviticus Cornwall, the agents’ employer despite the fact that he was spying for them. He did those things to protect himself, his own skin. Ryder’s betrayal isn’t handled well, yes, but in hindsight when you see things from his perspective, it’s more clear. He never forgave Carl, never gave a crap about him. Smoke was a coward and a rat, so that is why he fled in Reuniting the Families. Why did Ryder did? Why didn’t he fight to ensure Sweet’s chance of survival are high from the beginning instead of looking like a coward? Which I add, is not in his character, unless he had another agenda. And that is perfectly summarised in his words: “it’s every motherfucker for himself”.

Carl would go to the ambush regardless. Question is, how things’ll unfold from that point forward. If Carl successfully got Sweet away from the gunfight unscathed somehow, they would be in the dark about the betrayal. It seems that the Ballas’ victory over the Families made them more brave in conquering their territories. With Carl and Sweet around that doesn’t occur. At some point I think Sweet would learn of the Rifa’s involvement with the Loco Syndicate and ask Carl to investigate, but because he doesn’t meet Woozie, that job is harder, unless the Aztecas help the Johnsons. Cesar might still try to convince Carl that Smoke and Ryder betrayed them, but with CRASH’s leverage over him, it’s hard to imagine how he would rid himself of them. I guess Tenpenny would continually blackmail CJ and wouldn’t try to kill him because the Families’ position would be stronger for the majority of the war. Question is, what would happen if Smoke and Ryder’s betrayal were to be exposed.

Ryder wasn't going to betray CJ in original story, but things went wrong with the voice actor of Ryder and Rockstar games. That's why Ryder didn't got any "new line" on mission "pier 69" where developers make him die. Ps: if you actually focus on storyline in original series, you won't find *cutscenes of Ryder betraying/speaking ill of grove* as we kill him in mission, there's no cutscene and just "mission passed" . Positive lessons from GTA SA and i called this game as one of the best. 1. CJ came home as a loser and a buster. Despite the facts that CJ left Los Santos because his little bro, Brian died because of CJ. CJ came home 5 years later, improving, improving and improving to be the better person. Until the end of the line, killed his own childhood friend and became success by having a casino, showroom, Madd Dogg's manager, etc 2. Become a mission man. CJ is the father of a mission. Every mission he walked through are not easy. He must killed some people, stole some military weapon, burglary, capture an enemy territory, helped some unknown folks, helped the antagonist of the game, killed his own friends, undercover as one of a syndicate, robbing a casino, stealing a jet from the military ship, etc. Every mission, is for his family, Sweet, Kendl, Cesar and the GSF. 3. Keep your eyes on your close friends, he may betray you As we know, Smoke and Ryder betrayed GSF in the middle of the storyline. There's some sign that Smoke will betray the families. But Ryder? I don't think so. 4. You never know, if you never try In the whole storyline, CJ doing some new things that never came to his life. For example, doing business, fly a plane or helicopter, messing with some mafias, become the manager of the greatest rapper in that era That's all from the lesson. By the way, is this too long?

As for me, I take all gang territories and kill drug dealers as many as I could (2000$ per kill) before taking on this mission. I also prefer taking territories alone rather than inviting gang members to join, they would just be a dead weight for me.

Ryder wasn't supposed to be betray to Cj and GSF in original story, because the voice actor has quit in the middle of the game or story, the green sabre original scene, Smoke, Ballas, Tenpenny and Pulaski, The Rockstar has decided to kill his character, Only Big Smoke has betray to cj and GSF. Ryder wasn't originally planned to be traitor

You'd think after all these years with this new "definitive edition", they would address Ryder in this scene. Like I know they probably couldn't get a hold of the original voice actors (or even get the same quality of voice) but they have the original raw voice lines. They could have at least cobbled up a dialogue line of CJ acknowledging Ryder being shown in this scene.
