I've learned to always carry a tarp wherever I go. That way, before I do anything, I will set up a hasty shelter to be able to save or sleep. I'm saving about every half hour, and maybe sooner if I've just completed an important task or retrieved an important item. Also, headshots are the way to go. Even if you miss a couple of shots, the tons of extra damage they do will put the big guys down much quicker. Also, try to remember where you pick up ammo from those plastic crates and storage boxes because they generally all respawn when you reload the game. The same goes for your initial crash site. Everything in all of your gear will respawn. I don't recommend it, but if you really want to cheese the game, just set up your tarp and gather everything from the boxes, and then save and log out, and then log back in and everything will be respawned. But that's a personal decision for every player to make. lol.

if you put up some wall supports with smaller cuts of log you can remove all those vertical supports in your house

You need to build supports to be able to remove the pillars in the middle, just cut a log in half and place it where the vertical and horizontal logs meet so that you add an angled one, just do it on the 4 corners. Once you do that you can just have parallel logs to make roofs, you don't need the whole "box" anymore.
