Love how Mat and Ash's solutions to possibly getting tired of the music is just what No Straight Roads does. You gain alternate versions and remixes of the boss tracks by beating difficulties and getting collectibles scattered across the map.

As a hobbyist game dev, who is not a singer or musician, the way I would suggest solving the "hearing the song too much" problem is by having multiple versions of the song. Or multiple songs. They can all line up with the attack pattern, but if different songs (2-4 variations) are chosen at random, it'll be much less mind-numbing to hear them, since you won't even be able to predict which version you'll hear on your next attempt. Of course, that requires writing, composing, and recording multiple songs...

You solve the "Hearing the start of the song 100 times" issue by having checkpoints as you get further into the fight. Typically that would get balanced out by having a scoring/grading system where you would get rewarded for not dying. Both Hi-Fi Rush and No Straight Roads do that, Hellsinger just lets you respawn while taking a big overall point reduction, but it's basically just DOOM: The Musical and not focused on boss rushing. Oh, Ash said that 5 seconds after I unpaused, lol.

Oh my gosh yes!!! When I first discovered this game a few months ago, the first thing I thought was how I absolutely NEEDED to see it played on GTlive! Also, this is a pretty old demo, there's a much more recent one with a different (very amazing) song and fight (the one you see in the trailer), as well as a more complete animated cutscene (and also some easter eggs for some things you may recognize 👀) I would love to see you play that next! It's also a different style of fight compared to this, although it still incorporates the lyrics mirroring many of the obstacles you deal with. Also in regards to getting tired of the music, I believe that newer iterations of the game have an option to switch to just an instrumental.

MatPat, you looked like you loved the game, so I am here with a recomendation. Play A Hat in Time. One of the cutest, funniest and most well written story all together in a platformer. It was criminally underrated back in 2017 when it came out, and still didn't get the attention it deserved. This game is a 100% inspired by it, some mechanics and bosses are really similar to AHiT ones so I definetly think you should play it. There are 3 DLCs, 2 of which are singleplayer. I was unable to access the 3rd since it's only for the Steam version, so get the bundle. Conclusion: Play A Hat in Time.

This game takes a LOT of inspiration from A Hat in Time. You want a game that plays like Banjo-Kazooie, Crash Bandicoot, and those other mascot cutesy games from the mid 90s to early 2000s?
