GTO vs IGBT | Kawasaki Heavy Industries C151

A video of a comparison between the two types of traction motors and systems, 4 quadrant/GTO chopper control with Two-phase DC shunt-wound motor from Mitsubishi Electric and IGBT-VVVF with PMSM motors from Toshiba, on the Kawasaki Heavy Industries C151 trainset.

Honestly, the GTO Chopper is better than the PMSM, but it is going to be a thing of the past soon. :(

GTO Chopper is from the eighties and it already outdated after we grew up with it.

All PMSM has been gone as of Augest 2023 😢 only GTO still here untill 2025 following with C751B.and all C651 will be scrapped in 2024.

There is still a choice abroad: Japan, NYC, South Korea, Paris, Germany. For Paris they are the Mp89 (GTO VVVF) -Z20500-Mi2n Altéo (GTO Chopper). For Seoul Series 4000 -7000-8000 (Seoul metro) Serie 2000 (Pusan metro) but not updated.

PMSM (Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor) is the traction motor, IGBT is the traction system, so this video compares the 2 traction systems of C151. Thanks for clarifying though :)

A GTO Is Honestly Better Than A PMSM. A PMSM Motor Sound Too Low Which I Hate The Most, So That's Why I Don't Want PMSM.
