As I understand it, the ‘fender vents’ relieve pressure which develops in the wheel well at speed. This helps reduce lift; helping aid downforce.

Pretty sure that's actually a Varis front bumper and fenders, just modified with the extra vents on top of the fenders and the canards. I think that's why it reminds you so much of your Varis kit.

It’s not. It’s an OEM front bumper and some sort of aftermarket fenders. I compared it to my actual Varis GTR and it’s completely different.
