I keep seeing people repeat this and I have no idea why since it's easy to debunk. I have three machines here, a 1070 setup, a 980 Ti SLI setup, and a 1080 Ti SLI setup. On all of them the performance is exactly the same on my 1440p monitor as it is on my 1080p monitors at 1440p DSR. DSR is the exact same rendering load as the native resolution. honestly in most cases it's still fine for what i do (play at 4K high settings so it s mostly GPU bottleneck) it is my next upgrade though plus it does seem that the i5 4690k especially overclocked is faster than the i3 8100

Kynusa: You need to remember this is a four core i3, the equivalent of the i5 7th gen. With the gtx 1070 and the i3 8100 the gpu is still the bottleneck in nearly all the games tested, in otherwords the cpu is just sitting on it's hands waiting for the gpu to render. This is actually very well balanced. If anything you need more gpu to make it "balanced"

I would still preffer the i5 over the i3. Yes, the i3 and the GTX 1070 deliver much better framerate overall, altough frametimes suffer, there is visible inconsistency on the framerate, which overall for me it is worse. Having more framerate, for me means zero, if it is delivered with stuttering or worse frametimes. So not only the i5 plataform gets more future proof, also changing GPU it is much more simple than upgrading to a newer gen CPU with new motherboard and new rams if needed. Cheers

You can buy any setup and after you can upgrade cpu/GPU. But I recommend the i3 setup because gpu's are too expensive at the launch Time, CPUs seems to be very cheap in some years, gpu's r showing the opposite, so you can buy an i3 with a 1070 and after u can get an i5, maybe i7.

What I see is an i3-8100 with NO room for upgrading the video card. However, I wouldn't say a 1070 is impossible. Look at the gpu usage, it almost never drops below 99%. And the cpu is usually anywhere from 70 to 100 in the different games. That's a strong hint the i3-8100 is able to handle the render frames incoming from the gpu. The i3-8100 is working real hard though, and it looks like it's stuttering more. The only logical path for upgrading is to upgrade the cpu. But if I had chose the 1070 over the 1060 because I had loads of money? I wouldn't feel bad about that, especially if I planned on upgrading the cpu later.

Do you save power? You can search for "power" (or at least something like it) where you can see if it's saving power or not. If it does, switch it to "balanced" or "performance" (they may have other names, I'm using another language so I can't really tell).

Basically this video means that if you a serious, competitive gamer (especially in First Person Shooters like CSGO or Overwatch) you MUST HAVE A GOOD CPU. If you intend to play games casually on a TV or something get the i3 combo. Although it's harder from the practical standpoint to swap a CPU, you can do it as well, specially on a chipset that just got released. In heavy games the i5 8400 and gtx 1060 will beat the i3 with the 1070. For examp in fallout or bf. The only reason to consider the i3 with the 1070 is if you want to game at 4k and need the gpu power. You will always get much better gameplay with the i5 8400 as long as you dont want to get framedrops and stutters when you are on extreme situation. Even minecraft can drop the i3s fps to 0 when you explode something. In the video bf1 was in sp and shows nothing. Try out this game on sp with a g4560 and the difference wont be that big. If you try mp with 64 players there will be many more probs......

I prefer to you upgrade cpu before gpu. You can go for gtx 1060 with no problem. I go from I7-3770 (with gtx 660-2tb) to i7-4770K (with gtx 770-4gb) and end of summer I build r5-1600X and still rock with 770-4gb. I waiting for next generation of Nvidia.

Nope the i5 and 1060 is a better deal cause 1. GPUs are losing faster its value so you need to change a it earlier (maybe you have to change Cpu and Gpu at the same time cause its outdated and then it costs a lot more) and 2. a Gpu can be changed a lot easier

In heavy games for examp fallout 4 and bf1 the i5/1060 combo performes better (more fps). In future games more core will be used (already amd and intel planning to increase core count even more) and you will have problems using i3 8100 and that doesnt mean you wont be able to run them.......
