In this video we proceed repair of GTX 1070. It was diagnosed as memory and gpu failure. Gpu was bought used, but looked perfectly good for us (1 year old and it looks like its just been pulled from another working card). In repair process we were hoping 1.5V will appear after memory removal, but eventually ended up replacing driver too. After finishing work card was giving artifacts. First my suspicious lay on memory, but after once again memory reball card was doing same thing. Will wait for stencil, after that reball chip once more if it doesn't help - chip which been bought is defective.
Diagnostic on GTX 1070 • GTX 1070 broken, no vi...

You can always take your time doing it. Do a little take a break, come back later do some more, etc. If you do not have a stencil you do what you have to do.

20:00 for me it is faulty memory. I understand, that you checked them on other card before and that you did second memory reballing BUT three things - first, memory is more dedicated than gpu chip, it can simply die without a reason during regular good reflow/reballing process. Second thing -type of artefacts - too much symmetrical patterns, screen divided by stripes... When gpu make artefacts, they are not regular but random without any pattern and Third: If artefacts always look the same and they are repeatable -always appears in the same situation, then it means one of memory is bad. It is even logic. Let say that first memory is good here. Windows is loading files, when it tries to go to video mode - it need more video memory, and is start to using bad one which gives you artefacts. When memory is bad - then whole data appears with errors - artefacts are almoste everywhere. If gpu is bad - as i said - then artefacts is more random, not in the whole screen. Anyway thank you for video. BTW. Sometimes I'm also saying "please", then "yes" when I wait for a screen to appear after reflow or reballing job :)

GPU always splits data equally in memory chips for faster access. But yeah symmetrical arts are rather memory related. GPU arts are irregular dots or stripes.

Man, you're absolutely amazing, I didn't really expect you to reball every single contact on that chip. That's simply astonishing. I love to see the amount of effort you put on what you're working on. Kinda sad it's making a lot of artifacts, I hope you can fix it :)

I can see that you did a basic diagnostics for the graphics card: Check the Vgpu, Vmem, at the output chokes. If there is no voltage, replace the drivers & (and MOSFET's) and the zero ohm fuses. If there are voltages, but no picture, replace chip or reball chip. Great video

Manual re-balling on a modern GPU chip? That's crazy man huge props to your level of patience, even with a stencil its hard enough edit- Just made it to the end, amazing work! Its like hardcore porn for electronics nerds, and you got the money shot despite the outcome, the chances of all those thousands of balls seating perfectly is part luck anyway.

Of course you must make a part 3 video, this is the essential and crucial. Also some times you don't have to talk to customers what you would do next, you need to talk to your viewers what they think should you continue and fix even hardest faults. You need to make yourself unbeatable to any faults and repairs. One more thing, I remember on the begging of Louis Rossmann when viewers donated the donor boards and when they bought for him the chips, also you need to find connections in China for chips and boards. I suggest that you make longer videos, you will get more viewers and subscribers like Louis realized its not only about repairs, but its like connection to viewers. Maybe you could talk with Strange Parts maybe he could connect you to Chinese sellers of donor boards and parts in China.
