17世紀初期に描かれたとされる重要文化財「関ケ原合戦
図屏風」（大阪歴史博物館所蔵）をモチーフにしたピクセルアニメーション。屏風に描かれた当時の合戦風景に、現在も古戦場跡に残る自然風景を重ね、アニメーションとして再構成した。工芸品のように緻密なピクセルアニメーションに、大型モニターと指向性スピーカーをそれぞれ６台使用し、空間的に構成された映像装置。絵画でありながら同時に彫刻的、空間的な装置であった屏風を現代的に再表現している。文化庁の文化発信プロジェクト「Culture Gate to Japan」の一環として制作し、中部国際空港セントレアで公開。現在は岐阜関ケ原古戦場記念館にて常設展示されている。
This pixel animation was inspired by the "Folding Screen Depicting the Battle of Sekigahara"(Osaka Museum of History), an Important Cultural Property said to have been drawn in the early 17th century. The animation overlays battle scenery taken from the original folding screen with natural scenery still found today around the battlefield location. The pixel animation was made with the same care for detail as seen in traditional Japanese craftsmanship and is displayed using a spatially constructed video device consisting of six large monitors and six directional speakers. This modern re-portrayal of the folding screen retains painting-like elements while also having sculptural and spatial qualities. The work was produced as part of the Agency for Cultural Affairs' Culture Gate to Japan cultural dissemination project and released at the Chubu Centrair International Airport. It is now on permanent display at the Gifu Sekigahara Battlefield Memorial Museum.
