i dont know wat to think about this chant..i grew up with my grandma but never did she said there were such thing as chamorro chant...and to look at the way they do this it is so similar to the polynesian moves and way of chanting...dont take me the wrong way but we never ever had chants of such sort...so think about it...

@saipan1980 ..the Chamoru people inhabited the Marianas Islands long before the arrival of the others.The Spanish changed the original culture & language so much that most Chamorus can't recognize it today..It's why our people,even the elders,can't recall chants.l. I have lived in Hawaii a long time and see no dance movements resembling this groups, but know there some in Guam that do. We know little of our ancient culture, and sadly. can't speak our original language,yes? Think about it......

@@GabrielUngacta of course because Chamorro culture was almost lost because of colonization. Their culture, beliefs, and even their language was almost lost. Francisco “Frank” B. Rabon who has the title “Master of Chamorro Dance” introduces dances that depicted activities of ancient CHamoru life to re-create ancient CHamoru dance. As he has repeated many times, he is not trying to authenticate dances as being carried down from ancient times. Rather, his goal is to create an indigenous CHamoru identity that can give CHamorus of today a sense of pride in their heritage. Rabon’s dance creations have provided a basis for CHamoru dance that is being passed to successive generations by his original students.

On so many level this look so much like a Chuukese style dance. The pattern of the chant as well is very Chuukese. The way it suppose to go is there is suppose to be about a few groups or villages gathering for a special event. One village or island starts it off & the other villages has to appose their chants & dances. It's a form of competition but in a dancing & chanting form. This form of art is still practiced by Chuukese today especially on New Years.
@Ate.ria044 жыл бұрын
Incorrect it depends on what part of the Carolinian islands . Now of you are talking about satawal island than yes . But chuuk? There's a big difference but if you are talking about today than you are wrong becuase we don't do that on Christmas we Chuukese & all the other states of the federated states of Micronesia worship God and give thanks to Jesus on Christmas. Things change.

im amazed as how the guam people in particular are not as big boned as the majority of the southern and eastern polynesians, they are quiet small and slender or skinny. the typical polynesians east and south are big, muscular tall and typical tendendcies to be incredibly fat. the guam people are quiet similar to the filipino.
@unaiapaka16466 жыл бұрын
If you look up how big the Chamorro used to be you will find your answers. Chamorro people before the Europeans arrived were tall, big boned, and muscular. Since then Chamorro have been mixed with others, Europeans, Asians and other Austronesian groups, the life in which Chamorro people lived changed, the Chamorro diet changed and affected them physically. The Chamorro were "among the strongest homo-sapiens to have ever walked the earth" as some scientists have described. The bones of our ancestors are still among the biggest as yet to be discovered to this day. Cranial lobes on the skulls of our ancestors are only found in two groups in Oceania, the Chamorro of the Marianas, and the Tongans of Tonga. Both these groups are ancient and probably share a close common ancestor. The physical purpose of cranial lobes on the back of the skull is to hold the extra muscle of the upper part of the human body. These people were fit and big, "rivaled only by neanderthals" when compared to other humans. Please, take the time to research.

...an interesting perspective,and an uninformed one with regard to this group.This,like other Chamorro groups,have been researching historical records for a number of years. I don't think any of them just woke up one day and decided they were going to make these changes.If you speak with members of this particular group,they have no interest in being part of any triangle unless research supports a connection. Despite differences,"respect" is one of the many traditions they hope to perpetuate.

@Desmond Leon Guerro ...Your actually wrong on many points there buddy. Samoans and Tongans are both Polynesian just like Hawaiians, therefore they CAN'T act Hawaiian, because their the SAME people duhh. And idk who MISINFORMED you that Chamorro people pre-date the Polynesians lol I think YOU need to do some research on that subject. Micronesians (Chamorro people) are a Asian, while scientist today STILL cant prove where polynesians came from, so get your facts straight. And Hawaiians are "tainted" just as much as chamorro's are "tainted" with spanish, filipino, and other micro peoples, atleast Hawaiians still hold on to their traditions, todays Chamorro copy other pacific cultures, because THEY forgot their own...

Proven fact Chamorro predate Polynesians and by the way Nuclear Micronesians and Polynesians are the same people of which the Chamorro predate both groups. No disrespect intended just scientific facts in response to an ignorant comment. I think you need to do some research on your comment Teoti Smith. And they have proven where Polynesians come from, guess what same area as where the Chamorro come from, this information is not hard to find educate yourselves.

I'm sitting here laughing at you both for the inaccurate information being put out. Chamorro guy-Guamanians at the time weren't the only ones settling the islands first hand.You've got the Palauans&Yapese doing the same thing as our ancestors were on the move.Look to the eastern hemisphere you'll have the RMI,Kiribat,Nauru,Kosrea,Pohnpei&Chuuk as well.The youngest island in all of Micronesia is Chuuk.The oldest are those from the east.Nauru,Kiribas&Marshall.I gotta agree with the Poly guy here.The Chamorros are truly lost.90% of your people's culture is long gone.What this "movement" really does is fabricate something that's isn't authentic nor traditional.Hate to be a douche but it's the truth. Poly guy-Dance,tattoos all that good stuff.However throughout Polynesia you people lost the most valuable thing to ever possess.A vital identity of what makes a true islander.Navigation.Seafaring was lost due to colonialism and Christianity.It took one man who goes by Mau pialiug to bring it back inspiring the Hawaiians which later spread throughout The societies there.Nainoa is his student. You both share a common predicament.That is the pure inhabitants that once roamed your kingdoms are dying out.Blood diluted to the core.So much that the spirit of aloha and Hafa adai begins to have no meaning as racism is rampant on both of the countries.
@smallislandenormousculture30236 жыл бұрын
Teoti Smith Researchers are beginning to fully understand the extent of our ancestors migration.It's now been proven that the Polynesians were last to be settled.The youngest of all three nesians.As this debate will continue to seek concrete evidence to know for sure both orally and scientifically.We'll accept what's been put out atm.

John B Chamorro language is a shadow of its own self man.Its mix with Spanish,Tagalog,&Archaic Cham. And there's a reason why constant arguments occurs by Guam against other societies.Its the cultural issue.Chamorro culture today is mostly based off other Micronesians and Polynesian societies.Calling these make up dance,Chants,songs&Music as "authentic" or "traditional". I'd be pissed too if the chams did my peoples Jobwa stick dance or the jebo jebo(Warrior dance).
