Like Tivan said, the infinity Stones are some of the most powerful objects in the Universe. The purple one you see here is called the Power stone, and can imbue it's wielder with great strength and near invulnerability, and can produce extremely destructive energy discharges, powerful enough to destroy entire planets. It's so volatile that only certain powerful beings can hold it unaided. You've already been introduced to two other Infinity stones: the Tesseract is also known as the Space stone, and has all sorts of displacement and teleportation properties (which is how they opened the portals in the Avengers). The Aether that the Dark Elves wanted is the Reality stone, and has the power to alter reality on a fundamental level, such as Malekith's goal of extinguishing all light in the Universe. You'll see more of the other stones in upcoming films :) Rocket, and anyone else who hangs around Groot long enough, can pick up on the subtle inflections that his species uses when saying "I am Groot" to determine what he's ACTUALLY trying to say.
@Caseytify3 жыл бұрын
Oddly enough, in a later movie, Thor says he learned "Groot" as an elective at University. 😄

When this movie first came out, none of knew any of the characters either. We learned quick though. Love the reaction
@jonmercano11383 жыл бұрын
According to comics (supposedly) Groot can only say “I am Groot” because _The mature form of Groot's species is robust and heavyweight, which causes the organs of acoustic generation to become stiff and inflexible._ You can figure out what he’s saying based on the inflections. People who have been around him longer have an easier time of this. The MCU doesn’t seem to be completely following this though

The dog in the end-credit scene is partially fictional, but partially Russian. It’s name in Marvel is Cosmo (Kocmo/Kosmo in Russian), but it’s based upon Laika, the cosmonaut dog and the first living creature in space. It was sent up by the Soviet Union in 1957. Marvel sort of pretends that it was taken by aliens and now has telepathic abilities so it can communicate with people in the MCU. You don’t see it again in the Marvel movies (I don’t think), but it is in the comics and cartoons.

@tofu_golem3 жыл бұрын
Cosmo is a regular character in the comic books, but they decided not to include him in this movie because you can't have a CGI raccoon and a real dog in the same scene. Remember Laika the Russian dog who was sent to space and everyone was sad because Laika died? Cosmo is the Marvel version of Laika, only Cosmo survived because he was rescued by an alien scientist who gave him enhanced intelligence and telepathy. In the comic books, Cosmo and Rocket *hate* each other, which is why Cosmo growled at Rocket in that brief scene. Cosmo is technically the second Russian hero in the MCU, even though he only got a cameo. Groot is the last of his species. The rest of his species were really, really horrible. Groot was the one nice one. The Collector is one of the oldest beings in the universe. You will meet his brother in the third Thor movie. Calling that a "sibling rivalry" is the understatement of the year. Howard the Duck is a self-parody character in the Marvel comics that Marvel uses to make fun of itself. Howard is mostly famous for getting into arguments with God.

I still can't watch this opening scene. My mother suffered a years long bout of cancer, but the time came when her withered body suffered a stroke in here sleep. After hearing the news my brother and I drove to the airport soon as we could, the first song we heard on the radio was She Talks to angels by the Black Crows, a song that will always bring me back to that moment. We flew from Albuquerque to Houston, where mom was being treated, and tried to steel ourselves. We arrived at the bed of our mother, a loving and caring woman, a therapist who wend into debt for not forcing patients to pay, and now she is a vegetable. My brother and I met with the rest of our family, but we knew that she was just a shell and what had to be done. We pulled the plug, the easiest and hardest decision of my life, and waited by here side. I'm an atheist, but I swear I felt her soul leave her body. After years of pain she was left braindead in her sleep. Sorry for the long story, but I wanted to show how well this begining captured the experience, because it is too close to home and breaks me apart every time. Also it's true that She Talks to Angels was the first song we headed while driving to our therapist mother's death. Writers wish they could come up with that level of irony.
