My grandmother brought me to see this when it came out, she brought me to see the first one too. Sadly she passed away 8 months later, yesterday was her 7th anniversary, so this was quite the emotional watch for me. The Guardians movies will forever hold a special place in my heart, not just because of how great James Gunn made them, but also because it was something I got to share with my grandmother. I of course had to keep the tradition alive and went to see Vol 3 in theatres when it released and I know she would have loved that as much as she loved this one and the first one too.

Drax may joke around a lot, but what I think people miss is that when he's talking about the loss of his family, Mantis touches him, and starts to cry, but he's stone faced. To me this always said that no matter what he's showing on the outside he's always in pain like the hulk is always angry.

The more I see this one the higher up my rankings it goes. It has so much heart, humour and a bunch of crazy action sequences. The effects are still fantastic and it's just the right amount of self referential. Might be a top 5 contender.

The ending to this movie always wrecks me. Not just because it's sad but because of the song. Father and Son has such a deep personal connection to me and my father so whenever I hear it, I burst into tears. I remember going to the theater to see this with my mom(I was 16 at the time) and seeing that song title pop up on the Zune and me just saying, "well shit, I'm gonna cry" to her😂😂

I will always love this film, as it means a lot to me. I remember after my grandfather passed away suddenly, my Dad (his son) needed a distraction/a laugh, so he asked me if there was a second GotG film, as we had just watched the first one, which he loved. But man…I’ll NEVER forget the “…I had a pretty cool dad…” line/moment, which broke him, and me. One of the few times I ever saw my dad cry. He loved the film, and said it really helped him with his grief. Me too. Of ALL things, a James Gunn Marvel GotG film. Sorry for the personal story, just thought I’d share, as I recently lost a best friend and two beloved pets, and it’s videos like these that just help remind me that their are still people out there that can make you laugh even when you think you won’t for a long time. Love these reactions, you guys. They ALWAYS brighten my day, just like the rest of your shows/videos have for years. Truly thankful, and you have always delivered the quality, but the past year or two has been the best you have ever been, and especially with your celebrity (and actually HUMAN) interviews. Please pass along to Roxy, Coy, Winston, etc. (and yes, Rocha and Mike I guess…lol, but seriously,) just how much the laughs and all that mean to all of us. I always laugh when I hear people say these are "only superhero movies", or "it's kids stuff". Regardless of who the director is, most of these films have scenes that make you laugh hysterically, be grim and serious, or more importantly...make you emotional. These are are all the qualities of good film making IMO

I watch reactions to Marvel specifically because it’s such a vast universe all this talk now (with no spoilers for Sam) I don’t understand. All I can think is cool you know how many iterations there are of these stories. Some grew up on the comics, some grew up on the cartoons and went back to comics (me) some only know MCU And it is all perfect in my opinion. loved this reaction!! This film has so much heart. While some of the jokes dont quite land as well as the first, this film works on such a deeper level emotionally than almost every mcu movie its hard for me to ever look past that. Some of the most character work in a single comic book movie and its all executed so well. Making us care about characters we would never think to root for from the first film while also solidifying those familial themes. Gamor and Nebula's hug is one of the strongest moments in the entire mcu for me and rocket's progression as a character couldnt be more perfect. Love seeing you both everytime!!

The first time I watched this I thought Drax was just trying to protect an unconscious ally when he lifted Mantis over his head to protect her from the soil enveloping him. The second time I watched it hit much different. I remembered earlier in the film when Mantis touched him and we could see how much emotional pain he was in then he tells her that she reminded him of his daughter. No wonder he fought so hard to protect her.

Here's fun fact- James Gunn himself did the dance( baby groot motion ) for the opening dance sequence and James gunn also met Edgar wright so that The music(songs) for Baby Driver and guardians of galaxy volume 2 don't have same songs and decide which one to use for their movie!

You two are a ton of fun, and it makes it fun to rewatch these great films with the fresh eyes of Sam. My best friend grew up across the street from me, we're both only children, male & female, and 66 years later, we're still "brother & sister." I see a lot of that type of friendship in you two. Thanks for sharing that. Guardians 3 is going to be a wild ride ... I'll be here for sure, but lots of fun still ahead before that. Only reaction I've missed is "Hulk" and although I enjoyed the film, I agree with Sam that it's the weakest. But being a comic collector since 1960, I have an insight to the characters others might not, and I was never a fan of that character. It came at a time when the comic industry was Monster based, just going into the super-heroes, and it was Stan's bridge with a Jekyll & Hyde character. Over the years it developed more depth, but still not a fan of rage. Love you both ... thanks for sharing your friendship with us.

I love this rewatch series, it's bringing me back to seeing all these movies for the first time. I think Guardians 2 is somewhere in the lower-middle of my list but it would be way higher if I liked the songs more. Going from the Guardians 1 to Guardians 2 soundtrack is like the difference between the first two albums of Boston. The second one is skillfully done but it doesn't have the punch or energy of the first and just feels smooth instead of exciting.
