Watching this movie made me retroactively angry at Thor: Love and Thunder. It demonstrated how you can have a comedic film without losing the high stakes and darkness. Easily my favorite MCU film since Endgame.

Love & Thunder was so bad in exactly the way you describe. It COULD have been really good if it hadn’t been so preoccupied with trying to be funny. Christian Bale’s Bor was completely wasted in that film. Easily the worst MCU film.
@doug176
@doug176 Жыл бұрын
@@matthewhall2733 Taika Waititi took all the good will from Ragnarok and cranked the comedic aspects up to 11, which already was a bit much in Ragnarok, and kinda ignored the aspects that everyone praised in it. And of course it’s just criminal that they get Christian Bale, easily one of the most talented actors they’ve gotten in the mcu, as Gorr the fucking god butcher, an awesome character, and wasted both. Waititi is a very talented director so I have no idea what happened here.

@@doug176 they also had a story to adapt (the one where past, present, and future Thor team up) that would’ve given everyone what they want! Like the Shakespearean sounding young Thor, the modern comedic Thor, and a future grizzled mature Thor. Movie would’ve been way better had they adapted that aspect of the story. Also might’ve been able to include some kind of nod to Kang with the time travel stuff.

What really caught my attention is Nebula's character development. One of the best character development. From being a cold-blooded killer trying to impress his mad titan father, to being a caring and selfless member of gotg trying to save as many lives as possible. And she is more humane now even though she has more robotic parts. Come to think of it, she spent a lot of time with the Avengers during the blip and she has learned the ways of people on earth. I found this one of the best MCU movies. I don't need a complex villain everytime, sometimes an absolute monster that deserves pain works. Great movie and great conclusion for gotg!

I love that the Guardians don't feel like Super Heroes. They feel like your average group of friends that really care for each other that also just happen to be quite competent in a fight. The plots of these movies are much more character driven than most other Marvel movies, and it's always refreshing. Hell, Guardians 2 is basically 80 percent character interactions and jokes, there's next to no plot in the movie. And for that reason it really sticks out in a good way.

That shot of Peter screaming from the trailer is perfect acting. It actually makes me cry every time. Just what must be going through Star-Lord’s head at that moment, “Not again. I can’t lose someone again.” The trailer also led me to believe he was being tortured in that scene, which would also fit the description.

A great storyline. Rockets backstory was a tear jerker. One thing I didn't like was how Gamora joined the other group at the end, as if she never had a past with the Guardians, and Peter. She was a completely different Gamora, and I really missed her, and their supressed love for each other. I understand why, and how it happened, but I really missed the old Gamora. Parting ways as strangers, just didn't feel right to me. Overall a really good movie, but still liked Vol. 2 better. It may be because I'm older, and its soundtrack brought back so many childhood memories. For me its Vol 2,1,3.

But they are strangers though. The new Gamora makes it clear that she isn't the old Gamora. She can't remember her past with the guardians because there is no past with the Guardians. This isn't a case of memory loss, she's a completely different person wearing the same face. Quill wanted old Gamora back failing to accept that this person in front of him was not that. His whole arc was accepting reality and moving on.

This movie was completely phenomenal on every level. Everyone brought their A game. The acting was fantastic, it was deeply emotional, and honestly, the way they told Rocket’s backstory was so moving that it’s difficult to express without giving away spoilers. The way his backstory is depicted relies so heavily on peerless CGI that if one aspect of the visuals veered into the uncanny valley, it would’ve broken the immersion. The visuals were so flawless that it created Sarah McLachlan animal protection video flashbacks which used to be cued to her song Angel. That song isn’t played in the film, but the flashbacks hit that level of emotional punch. The film gives each character a chance to explore their emotional cores, and Drax and Mantis have a very beautiful arc that shows another side of their typically largely comedic roles. It’s a shame that the performance of some of the phase 4 MCU films has lead to a less than amazing turnout for this film, because it deserves to be seen in theaters.

As controversial of an opinion as this might be, I think Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 (2017) is not only better than the first, but’s also my second favorite MCU film after Iron Man (2008). I think it improves upon the original in (almost) every way, and yes there is a lot of comedy, but there is so much more genuine emotion and a willingness to go deeper than most any other superhero film property out right now. I didn’t even feel this way right away, but it grew on me more and more and more every time I rewatched it. I was so genuinely excited for Vol. 3, more than any other confirmed upcoming superhero flick (rivaled pretty much only by Spider-Verse), and it left me an emotional mess.

Dang Stuckmann for the W!! This guy truly gets it which is why he is my #1 critic ever, both since the newspaper days (I'm 44), and online. I thought I was the only one thinking there was just something off about this film when compared to the rest, comedy was off, story was sort of a mess, flashbacks felt they were trying too hard, and the villain was just ....weird!? If MCU is known to improvise on canonical characters, whyd they stick to High Revolutionary to just animals? Again, just a missed opportunity, they could have made him begin with animals then start on humans, that would have at least struck a chord. Instead all he mangles up is animals, cute animals at that (seri, he doesn't use elephants or lions or bears?!). I know audiences scores will be around 95% because of nostalgia, but also I really lived these films and am a huge supporter of the Star Lord character. Stuckmann reviewed this exactly like I was thinking it. It's still entertaining and has one if the best fight scenes since Avengers 1. Thank you James Gunn for giving us GOTG, we need this group.

This film focused on both fleshing out the back story of rocket and also showed a solid conclusion to the entire cast. I loved his character arch. I'm glad you'd liked it I was getting a little worried there with the last couple of films. This also gives me confidence in Gunn since he's making my favorite hero Superman.

So it’s an above average super-hero space movie, like the second Guardians. I expected more, to be honest

The recent game was excellent, it really got me into Guardians of the Galaxy, probably more than the two films, so it's the one Marvel franchise I'm still interested in.

It's was nice to see Adam warlock and cosmos in the movie. But they are not prominent characters like in the game.

This is actually my favorite Marvel movie. Rocket Raccoon has always been my favorite Guardians of the Galaxy/Marvel character so I was really happy that this movie focused mainly on him. But beyond that this movie (as well as the other two Guardians films) had more heart and soul than pretty much every other Marvel movie.
