the part that always gets me choked up, is when the music starts to swell at 2:15 as the various elements of Rocket's plan begin to come together. You seem him just clacking away at the control panel, fully in his element as a brilliant engineer and problem solver. The quiet layering of the strings as everyone starts to float, the bursting of the horn section when the drone engines flare into life. And then the entire orchestra together when the station starts to fly away, when all the elements are together, all the instruments are together. It's just so good. And then, the crowning jewel on the whole scene, is when it all settles down, Star-Lord looks down at Rocket, and with genuine feeling and respect says "That WAS a pretty good plan." He's pretty childish and ridiculous a lot of the time, and worried about his ego, but damned if he didn't give credit where credit was due with that scene.

After seeing 3, I thought about it a different way, too. He hoards all manner of mechanical bits and bobs, because he might find a use for it later. Like how he kept around that keycard, not just for nostalgic purposes. This makes him the opposite of the High Evolutionary, who throws away everything the instant he can't understand why he might still need it.
