I grew up with a Doberman. as a young child and even a teenager I let her be the dominant one between, she guarded me and my family home with her life. She saw my parents as her leaders but always was dominant over me because I was very young and smaller than her for most of her life. I trusted her to protect me so I never wrestled for dominance over her. she always always protected me and was extremely gentle and caring towards me. If a stranger came close while just she and I were outside her hackles would go up in defense. She would listen to my commands because she was very well trained but I let her be the leader in most ways. Insanely smart dog- genuinely more intuitive and intelligent than many people you could encounter. She was so smart it was almost uncanny- like having another person in the house. I miss her so much. Even years after her death, sometimes I will hear a bump in the house and think it’s her walking around for a moment.

Growing up in the late 70s & into the 80s we had a Samoyed that was very serious about guarding my sister & I when our mother wasnt around. _She was so smart it was almost uncanny- - like having another person in the house._ No one could have expressed that better! Misty made her own character judgments about people, & was highly prejudicial. On a customary walk-around-the-block, a couple with children would walk right by our house, no problem. But for a single man, who happened to have long hair & had a cigarette in his hand & taking the same walk, she went ballistic & scared the poor man sick! It was rare that she showed aggression; she was usually friendly toward strangers with me & my big sister around. But every once in awhile at the local municipal park or while at a weekend picnic in a state park, she would single out some individual she didn't like The decades have passed & I've owned a couple of Huskies. Vanilla is my second, currently with me. But there'll only be ONE Misty! Thank you for contributing! 🐶💜❤

+Jeffrey Ulmer I'd like to see the owner prove this to us. All he has to do is say his command to making the dog stop guarding and then grab the toy. But simply saying "Guard" and then going for the toy doesn't show much at all, to me the dog is trained improperly and is very aggressive when it comes to its toys. Again, unless he can turn this aggressiveness off with a command, the dog is just aggressive

OH MY 😄 I know these sounds . My grandfather had a Dobermann too. many many years ago . I was 15 as he came to our family. From the first day on he was a member. .And we were really the best friends ever ..... ARTUS THE BEST FRIEND and believe me when someone came to fast or in some aggressiv way to me and he started to ggrrrr (sorry don't know the word. .only know barking ) the floor was vibrating 😆 A Protector from first day to last day . But the best memories to him ... A FRIEND 😇

Yeah, Dobies are the best. Thar 'grrrr' sound is called growling.

The first time I heard my adopted Dobie girl Grace let out that type of roar I was like wtf was that!? Nearly twelve years later she is still an angel, an angel that nobody other than myself should ever think about messing with.
@Gaius__4 жыл бұрын
That's how it should be ... as long as she doesn't mess with people who don't start messing with you or her.
@Gaius__4 жыл бұрын
@Strawberrysmoodie It means they are very good at guarding and should be respected. No reason to be scared though ... you leave him alone and he will leave you alone. However, a Doberman is not a good choice as a first dog. Not because they are aggressive or dangerous (that is always down to the owner), but because they can be very assertive and try to establish dominance, to be the alpha of the pack. If you don't know how to safely make him understand (regularly) that you are the boss, and not him, you can find yourself in a situation where your Dobie becomes a real pain in the ass, destroying the peace of your home. Without having experience with dogs, it is good to find an expert dog trainer or maybe a Doberman Club first, get some information, and then go out and get Dobie from a respected and serious breeder. Alternatively, there are other breeds which will protect you and your family well, and are easier to handle than a Doberman. Labradors and Golden Retrievers, for example, are very nice dogs of sufficient size to command respect, and way easier to handle than a Dobie. Whichever breed you choose, please make sure to always love him and give him the training he needs and likes. You will have a loyal friend and family member for as long as he lives.

Grace would occasionally do it when eating which would be considered food aggression to a lot of folks...Grace also had zero food altercations over twelve years while living with a male Weim and male Staffie. She did have altercations that didn't involve food with the Weim due to the fact that he was kind of an ass.

I'm currently on my 8th Doberman Pinscher.... I've had Dobies since 1978 & i❤️love the Doberman breed, better than any other breed I've ever owned. I've owned 8 Dobies, 3 GSD, 3 Labs, & several mixed breeds & by far the smartest breed & most loving breed I've owned is hands down the Doberman Pinscher.....

Very well trained dog. She guarded as commanded even though I don’t think she liked having to guard against her master. Mine always waits for me to give an ok or settle in place. Always wanting to please me above all else. I hope she got love and cuddles cuz I bet she loves that most of all.

I grew up with the Doberman breed in our house and they could be frightfully aggressive when needed. Very good animals as home defenders.

Who does he think he's kidding with his "guard" command? That's not training it's dominance aggression through lack of training. He could have said bananas and the dog would have done the same.
@joshuaalderson81874 жыл бұрын
The dog seemed content with the first few seconds till he said ‘guard’, its possible to teach a dog that word and its meaning especially if its something like a doberman, it just takes time. As for the sudden leap near the end? I thought that was abit funny but im pretty sure theres a key word for stop Thats instilled into the dog or else he wouldn’t make this video. You cant totally claim to know the dogs behavior through a clip way less then 2 mins.
@jodiestead16024 жыл бұрын
It's not dominance , it's just simple resource guarding. He wants what he thinks your going to take. That will be hard to train out of him. My dog will do it with bones. Hence now not being allowed them.
@DAClarkism4 жыл бұрын
@@jodiestead1602 Exactly. We had a Golden Retriever growing up and she would resource guard socks. I don't think she ever actually bit any of us but she would get very aggressive both towards us and the other animals when she was holding a sock.
@sdmoska74384 жыл бұрын
Yup 😆 was thinking the same thing. Lol guard
@curiousgeorge40484 жыл бұрын
Totally right dicky. This dog believes he is the alpha in this pack and views his owner as below him. If the dog views you as alpha, it will let you take anything you want. Wouldn't be surprised if this guy has behavioral issues to deal with.

@AnimalEmancipation4 жыл бұрын
ressource guarding is not a breed issue and says little about a dogs protection ability. they might care about their bone but not your property. this "state of mind" to this extreme is usually simply lack of socialization
