I think on the contrary: Pep learned a lot about football from Messi. Ppl have a hard time understanding how unbeliavable of a player he is. Pep was merely reaping the benefits of having him as a player, little did he add to Messi's overall understanding, tactical awareness or skill base throughout the years as a coach. Messi was a finished article as early as 19 years old, he just sharpened up his game and moved further into the central false 9 position from the wings to have a better chance to exploit the defensive mistakes, other than that, Pep added very little to his game. That's why he believes that there should be a separate category for all the other players because Leo redefined what excellence and understanding of the game means for footballers. A true pioneer among the brightest stars of football history.

The fact that you base the ballon d'or classement on just goals and assissts as well as 90℅ of fans proves you dont have deep knowledge in football, and proves that ballon d'or criterias are wrong, beside goals and assissts, there is things that need to be considered such as placement, contribution to the team(for example there is some player who have low assists and goals but they had big contribution like dribling, creating plays, linking defense to offense, they may deserve to be put in top 10 ballon d'or even If they have 2 goals or assists) , defense, the style of the team (some teams like athletico madrid plays defensive playstyle, so they just search for one goal and then defend, now imagine If griezmann for example play for a team more offensive than athletico, his goal and assist ratio would be higher...)
