The difference lies in what players you have and what they’d rather suffer for. Messi, iniesta, xavi, and co… enjoyed keeping the ball and flexing their tactical biceps against any and all opponents. They went the extra mile to demonstrate they were better at football than everyone. This generation does not necessarily see football that way. They’d much rather play in quick transitions, play vertical if they have to. But ultimately, getting inside the box as fast as possible seems to suit them much better than what xavi was trying to force upon them. I say let them have fun with what they actually enjoy!

Wasn't mentiond in the video but we stil retain alot if possesion its Moore balanced than you think it's when there is no way to go vertical we revert back our own styl until a gaps opend that's the secret the balance in tiki taka and but with tempo and some tactical adjustmens and functions.we are not playing German football but high paced Spanish foootball. And that's what makes its exciting we were used to slow down the tempo of the game until you fell asleep almost to controle the game but with the intention and urgency to score we move the ball in a more amazing way. If we get depth and all of our players back its a wrap!!!
@robertwill23Ай бұрын
what is german or spanish football these days? it is modern football. whats the difference between german high paced football and spanish high paced football? no difference. because it is played in Spain it's called spanish or what? Spanish football is not associated only with Barca's style which is interpretation of dutch total football. Bilbao play counterattack direct football. Atleti played pure counterattack football during their peak in 2010s. Getafe played pressing football until recently. Sevilla played pressing football with Mendilibar. Girona play direct. Spanish NT played direct physical football until late 00s. Germany NT played possession football with Jogi Loew in 2010s. And now with Nagelsmann. German league have teams that play direct like Bilbao or pressing football but also teams that play possession like Stuttgart or BVB (under new coach) or Bayern or Leverkusen. or St Pauli from last season. or Magdeburg from second division. Both Germany and Spain have continental football influence (as in control of midfield and possession). In 1970s Germany played their own version of total football that Dutch popularized in early 70s. They built from the back and played through midfield. Germany of 1972 was named best team of Europe and team that played football of year 2000. Keeping possession is not Spanish thing. it is European Continental thing. Historically in Europe teams played slower than in England. Germany just also had influence of english football in the past. Bayern played possession football in 1970s (they were coached by Hungarian coaches - ex-players of wonder team from Hungary that played short passing football). Then since 2009 with hiring of Louis Van Gaal Bayern have been playing with same philosophy as Barca - variation of total football (possession, control of midfield, domination, pressing). Dutch team that played total football in 1970s were about pressing, energy, rotation of positions. Short passing is element of every team in modern football. Spain or Barca didnt invent short passing football. Tiki-taka is nonsense, it's not style of play. it's just meaningless short passing. What Barca played under Pep or Cruyff was version of total football. With Cruyff it was actually more freedom for star players. So Flick is actually close to Cruyff. And Flick shares same total football philosophy. And is fan of Cruyff and Pep. At Bayern he just returned to Pep's settings when Kovac got sacked. Bayern retained a lot o possession and dominated teams under him. You look at it from wrong angle. Barca style is spanish version of total football (which is attacking proactive football with rotations and good counterpressing - go and watch Pep's Barca and their insane counterpress vs Arsenal in 2010). It is not about triangles and mere short passing. Any coach is aware of triangles in order to maintain possession. Flick's Barca using same third man runs as it was main play by Pep's Barca too. Flick just adjusting new ways to main idea of total football. Because modern football is changing and positional rigidity doesnt work anymore.

That’s one of the reasons why he flourishes under flick. He wants him to be on field assistant coach, and he needs that position because he plays with youngsters so he needs to instruct them how to pass him the ball etc. He did not need to do that in Bayern, because Muller is a F* savant.

The biggest problem Barça had was thinking that they could play the same as they did when they had Iniesta, Busquets, Xavi and Messi. We are talking about 4 of the most technically gifted players in the history of the sport. It's impossible to replicate that style. Even when they won the second treble Luis Enrique shifted to a more direct style of football that saw Xavi fall off the starting eleven in place of Rakitic. It's the same with this generation of Masia players, they are technically gifted for sure, but not on the same level and they see football in a different way. Plus forcing players to play like Xavi used to, means your window of players from outside the club that can integrate to that style is severly limited which is why a lot of the big signings like Coutinho, Griezmann and Dembele failed at the club. And like everything styles come and go and teams get better and better at countering you. Barça was playing the same way for over 15 years, so of course teams knew exactly how to play against them and with the quality of the players that suited that style of play diminishing then they reached a point that they can still use the same technically gifted players la masia produces but in a different style of football. Which is why Flick is excelling at now.

In my opinion, the elements of tiki-taka have not completely changed or disappeared in Barcelona's game under Hansi Flick. Short passes, triangles, and individual player skills in 1v1s with opponents are some of the elements of tiki-taka that are still present in Hansi Flick's game However, what is clearly different is that everything is more direct now. The elements above are included in Hansi Flick's very direct game where the ball flows very quickly and players always try to create space every time they have the ball

Great video as always. The interesting thing with Flick's Barca and Klopp's Liverpool, they were seen as very direct and all that, and I'm not saying they were not but if you look at their possession numbers and pass completion stats, they'd look like a typical dominant possession team. So I'm not disputing that their teams were not more direct than Positional play teams but it's not like they were not trying to keep the ball fairly well either. Or could it be that teams just sat very deep against them, which allowed them keep the ball really well?
