Wow. Eto was selfless and slotted into the right? He did so against his will and Guardiola mistreated him throughout the season. That's why Eto wanted to move out and did so to Inter. The problem with Ibrahimovic was that he cannot tolerate being treated badly (I understand the reason for that) which led to the feud between the two. Guardiola's transfers weren't great, I mean who buys a prime Ibrahimovic to play him on the wing? Clearly Ibrahimovic isn't the type of a player who can play on the wing without being injured. He has never been good with transfers, he has always bought bulk load of players and ruined many of their careers. Had it not been for this feud, I can say for sure that very likely Ibrahimovic could have been on his path to be a part of the G. O. A. T debates all over the world.

Tremendous analysis mate....I remember also in 2012, he used the 433, with Pedro/Alexis as RW, Iniesta as LW, and Cesc with Messi as double false 9 .....And in some occasions, when he ned a ST to give Messi much space, he used in the begining of the season (before Villa's injury) a ST who actually was a bit wide in the right but central to drag the opposite CBs, and Messi in a deep-false9 role....Alves also covered the right width

You didn't get completely right a couple of details. First, when Ibrahimovic got injured in 2010 it wasn't Henry who replaced him but Bojan Krkic, who remained in the starting 11 until the end of the season playing more or less the same role Villa would play the following season. Also, in 2011-12, Pique and Alves still started for most of the season whereas Mascherano and Keita were still subs for the most part and the defensive line was Alves, Pique and Abidal with Puyol being indisputable earlier in the season on the left. Mascherano would alternate the midfield and the defense and several players played on the left wing position in 2011-12. Villa, Alexis, Afellay, Isaac Cuenca and Cristian Tello.Either way, despite the names being slightly different, the explanation of the way they played is very accurate. To me, the highest level of artistry, so to speak, was the 2011-12 season with the 3-4-3 and only the injuries of several players could stop Barça from winning its 4th liga trophy in a row. Puyol, Afellay, Cuenca and Villa were injured for a while and Alves suffered an injury too, which affected the team very much.

Whoever doesn't like Gaurdiola as a Manager ? I don't think they even know what Modern football is. He changed the way football is being played now , it's more Tactical now . He could have won 3 UCLs in a row but things didn't work well , even in his Bayern days ? He managed them well ofcourse he didn't win ucl as well , again in city. He changed the way people look at city. TBH I didn't know abt a team like city that much as Ik rn regardless they had PL titles in the past but people still didn't know much abt them n he took them to limelight . It's funny how people believe he's a cheque book manager while his counterparts have spent more than him n they all got less trophies n they didn't revolutionized the game . In Barca n Bayern , he didn't spend lot of money at all while in city he had to coz there was no academy that was producing talents n ofcourse he had money on his side too but who wouldn't do that ? He spent 7-800M , Klopp spent 500+M but I don't see people claiming he's a cheque book manager while if u consider the age of both squads ? Liverpool's age is pretty much high than City , city needs 2 more transfers n the team can go for 10 more years while Liverpool would need in the upcoming years. Not to mention pep hasn't sold any of his players n once he does that ? If he bought them at 50M ? Their price rn is 100M or even more , either way he got then profit. City's gettin more attendance than United n Liverpool n people who say they're plastic fans ? Well lemme remind United doesn't have a very good history either ,SAF transitioned them well n before then Sunderland n Nottingham were better than United while Liverpool was a boss team . Most fans in the world r plastics coz whoever wins ? They support them except the guys who live in the same city . How do people come to knw abt United ? Coz they won , if they hadn't won the trophies ? Who would have known them ?nobody , logically anybody who's an outsider is just a glory hunter. I'm from Madrid , 70% folks support Real n 30% support Atletico . The 20% change is coz of trophy cabinet.

Name me a manager in modern era who won ucl without a very good squad or by not spending money . I'll wait 😂 , united spent 800M in total but where r the trophies ? No single player was able to win u trophies either u r GOAT or a very good player or just a normal player , the GOAT won his first UCL , ballon d'or n any other award u can name under him except for fans , have u ever seen a coach sayin Pep isn't good . Cesc transfer was a huge error for a number of reasons. His time in England, he got away from being a deep lying midfielder or someone who wanted the ball in deep areas, he got a taste for goals the previous season at Arsenal he scored alot of goals by constantly abandoning his position to get into goal scoring areas and eventually Wenger moved him to the 10 position in a 4411. He came to Barca with the exact same tactical profile and therefore , whenever he was played in the 433 he struggled badly and so did Barca. He always badly lacked mobility, so Barcelona pressing game struggled. Having Keita and Alves out of the team really hurt Barca in that aspect. It also hurt Barca moving forward because Thiago was an absolute force ready to take off it was stuck on the bench before eventually leaving the following season when again he wasn't played enough . This was Barca's midfield of the future, not Cesc who needed to relearn how to play Barca's football. Untill De Jong this season, there was a glaring hole in midfield never filled. The 343 was a great tactical idea but looking back it's clear Pep didn't have the squad for it. I also think if did it over again he would have done it differently. I think also his only blemish at Barca on a tactical level was Ibrahimovic. He was too stubborn on this and I think gave up on the possibility of it working too soon. He didn't like Ibra for whatever reason, both tactically and probably personally but Pep also admitted how great a player he was and I think should regret not doing more.

Pep has never been a proponent of tiki taka rather he is a true discipline of the Cruyffian total football 3P model which relies on Possession, Pressing and Positioning. It was Del Bosque who implemented a different brand of football (tiki taka) with the Spanish national team which was very slow and boring that relied entirely on Possession alone without any real intent on Pressing. Unlike his predecessor Arragones who used a single defensive midfielder Senna Del Bosque deployed two in the form of Alonso and Busquets. In short, total football is attractive while tiki taka is slow and boring.

@@sauravsastry I agree with you that the great Dutch team that exhibited total football had players who were capable of shifting and changing positions if needed. Now what I tried to convey earlier was that Pep being the student of Cryuff was a proponent of total football that relied on Pressing and Possession and not the slow, boring tiki taka football which is all Possession without much Pressing like the way Germany played under Joachim Loew at the 2018 World cup or the way Spain played under Del Bosque.

@@nazeemameen1253 first of all playing pep Guardiola way requires a lot of hard work dedication, intelligence and determination as well as discipline and it is the toughest way to play it takes a lot of time to get used to it his documentary in Barcelona says take the ball pass the ball and recently thiery henry said that pep's tactics were like playing chess game Spain playing tiki taka in 2018 was very boring no creativity at all players were doing stupid and silly mistakes whereas guardiola always choses players who have great vision and intelligence and that's why Zlatan Ibrahimovic wasn't comfortable with him because he always relies on midfield with the likes of de bruyne,xavi, Iniesta and busquets and Thiago alcantara as a super substitute and he prefers Lewandowski and messi at front and main disadvantage was his bacline or defense was weak in bayern Munich and city in city he was dependent on laporte and teams had figured it out to negotiate his tactics but his counter pressing did wonders in barca in 2010-11 barca were regaining possession in few seconds after high pressing as well as in city in 2018 and 2019
@thuo1000
@thuo1000 4 жыл бұрын
@@sauravsastry Pep's tactics revolved around total football but with a variation. If you watch the 1974 dutch team play at the world cup, they played Total Football where each player could play a multitude of positions. For instance Cryuff would drop deep to the center back position while the CB would move to the striker position to fill the gap that Cryuff left upfront. However, with Pep's Barca, it was a bit different. It was more structured in that Messi was given the free roam space and it was one of the midfielders (fabregas) or a winger (david villa or pedro) that would fill the false 9 position whenever Messi dropped deep. It is still the same concept of having each position filled at all times just like the 70s dutch team but with a variation. Also, football has evolved, tactics have evolved and players are faster than before, so you would need a strong center back with height to cover the defense in case of a counter attack from the opponent, so it would have been illogical to have Messi become the new CB temporarily and the CB move forward. Messi is not a defender, he may not be able to perform defensive duties like Pique or Puyol did in Pep's Barca. Also like Nazeem says, Pep has never been an advocate for tiki taka, even Pep himself said that he hates the term tiki taka because it means passing for passing sake. Vincent Del Bosque's Spainish team played tiki taka. For the normal eye, it may seem that Pep's Barca and Del Bosque's Spanish team played similar football, but that is completely false. Pep's Barca played positional football which includes strict positional play (both with and without the ball), possession and compact intense counter-pressing when the ball was lost. Del Bosque's Spanish team rarely counter-pressed as intensely as Pep's Barca did, their positional discipline was different to Pep's Barca. Bosque's team had possession but it was less vertical plays and more horizontal plays, that is why they were winning 1-0 or 2-0 at most despite having the lions share of possession. Pep's City team have also adopted a similar strategy but without a player like Messi, who can dribble past 4 or 5 players and score or make an assist, Pep has made variations to his sytstem. That is one of the reasons that make Pep great. He has tactical fluidity and ability to adapt to his players while still maintaining his philosophy. Pep's Barca and Pep's City play strict positional football with great possession and intensity with and without the ball, however, they are both very different in the way that they execeute the game. Like I said earlier the lack of Messi has made Pep adapt and make variations, so instead of Messi you have Aguero. Aguero has been tasked with Pep not only to play as a traditional striker but to drop deeper and combine link up play with the midfield (false 9). However, the demands from Pep to Aguero are different from the ones he placed on Messi. Aguero is a great player but he is not Messi, so Pep does not make Aguero drop so deep and dribble his way to the final third like Messi did, so one of the tactics Pep has made is to make his wingers stay very wide hugging the touchline thus creating half spaces for the 2 attacking midfieders (david silva and de bryune to attack on either side), this means that the 2 cb's who should be concentrating on Aguero, now have to concentrate on the 2 attacking midfielders thus leaving Aguero with lots of space. If one of them chooses to mark Aguero, that means one of the attcaking midfielders is free to score from the half-space. Then the fullbacks convert to become inverted fullbacks, occupying the spaces left by the 2 attacking mids that have moved to attack the half spaces. So the lack of Messi has made Pep come up with ways of moving his team higher up the pitch.

Inverted wingers are wingers which when have the possession invert or cut inside towards the goal to either score a goal or to find a teammate to create a chance . Like eg robben , Henry , Messi and Ronaldo in rmd, inside forwards are those who can create passing opportunities and open space while helping in the build up play and when they don’t have the possession , inside forwards tend to stay in formation while pressing high in their own zone , this helps them to score easily when they retrieve possession . Inside forwards like Suarez in 15/16 to17/18 and Rooney in man utd, Henry and berkamp in arsenal , eto’o in barca and inter

Saketh V don’t agree Firstly, inside players use their dominant foot on the opposite side to cut inside right footed on left, left footed on right, lets get that straight. An inside forward is someone more willing to get into the box and score goals using their off the ball movement, I’m thinking a younger C. Ronaldo, Rashford, Salah, Mane or Mbappe when he plays out wide. An inverted winger will still cut inside but will more likely create for teammates and also mark opposition fullbacks when needed, think a Gnabry, Sancho, or Mahrez. I’d say if playing possession based pressing systems it’s more likely you’d have inverted wingers because of the defensive work rate required, yet there are exceptions like Klopp (who uses firmino as a false nine, creating space for mane and salah). If anything guardiolas teams are a mix, he often uses out and out wingers, (sane and sterling 2nd season at city), the wide players score a lot of goals and also create, wingers can change into inside forwards just by virtue of their movement into the box (think again of sane cutting back to sterling in the box, or vice versa)

Messi started playing as False 9 and started cutting inside... Barca signed Ibra who doesn't want to move to Right and provide width left by Messi... Pep Asked Alves to move forward to provide width... Jose, Who was the coach of Real Madrid understand that and asked CR7 to cut inside and play more as a striker than a winger to counter Alves's moment going forward before their Copa Del Rey final... Ronaldo scored the winner in that game and the rest is history... WOW...

People keep blaming Pep as lucky to manage teams with superstars. That might be true, but he also revolutionized how the game should be played perfectly and is able to maintain the possession based football at the highest level. Not many managers have achieved much of this.

Not really, you wouldn’t have enough packing in midfield to play how guardiola wants with a 523, if you’re playing that formation, width is your best tool

since messi came inside the team started too win less trophies....messi cant play on the wing anymore why not go buy some one who can......barca been buying players and more players but confusing them, or the players are not as intelligent as before.....think the current players are ok with tactics but lack they dynamics how they are going to chage will be intresting because they have given a 2 year contract two the manager but i feel an everlution is required at barca which will take longer then 2 years....you just cant strip the whole squad....it has too be striped piece by piece......and in a way that they dont fall too behind real madrid.....does messi still have to be central to all tactics because dont forget he is the one that is still their best player and the best player in the world......do you play him as a false 9 and have two players that have speed on either side like liverpool have salah and mane with firmino in middle...... either way i feel its going to be intresting to see what barca do....
