Transportation Manager Matt Harvey says “We have two styles that were installed. One style is that same style, they just changed the head a little bit to enclose it to aid in the curling. The other one is flat, and it goes along the ground. Instead of being curled up and going off to the side, this actually gets forced to the ground, and you actually kind of run over it.
The two ends that were installed were actually MASH tested, and these are the first two in Ohio, so we are excited about having the first ones in Ohio to see how they perform.
Everything has to do with safety out in the highways. As vehicles get bigger and faster, you need these attenuators or guardrails to be about to be able to handle a larger impact. We’ll put them out there and we’ll see what happens, and in the future, depending on what style we decide to go with as a guardrail gets hit, they will be replaced with new MASH tested ends”
