I never met this man, but had occasion to phone him in 1997 when I knew I was going to be made an RSM. I wanted to replace my pace stick with a particularly good one and thought who better to ask than the GSM how I should go about it. I called him cold (from Canada), but he made me feel like my phone call to him was the most important part of his day. He was an absolute gent. He expressed sincere interest in my unit, my country, and in my career and very kindly put me onto a master pacestick maker who made them for the Brigade of Guards. He kept me chatting for ten minutes or more. A very professional and personable fellow.

Did several QBP's and beating retreats in the 80's and 90's under this gent - genuinely liked and respected by all the lads (and that's no mean feat coming from a Grenadier!)

I did public duties in London District in 1987 and black Alex was the GSM at first and then Perry Mason took over half way through. He was a huge man with a formidable voice and well respected.

Extremely well respected man for the Coldstream Guards and the hole of the household Division. I do not understand how hard it must of been of all of his platoon and the queen herself. I never met the Gentlemen but I know if I ever would of, I would never forget him. Rest In Peace Perry, Mason. You will never be forgotten.

To all those who 'knock' Great Britain and Northern Ireland: Listen to what this man says, observe the esteem in which he is held, then ask yourselves: Do you REALLY think we, in the U.K. will EVER allow Republicans to put an end to the lineage which has produced men like this? RIP GSM Mason. x

He would be very displeased with the woke mess the guards have become and Mott has let him down.
