As an owner for the last 8 years I have to say I love it to bits, on a long run it’s great. Everyone focuses on the mpg (8mpg on a spirited drive rising to about 17 on a motorway run sitting at 70. But its the cheapest can I have ever owned! It’s rising in value, no road tax, no MOT, although I get it inspected and insurance is £180/ Year. Add this all up and the petrol isn’t an issue as the most I have done in a year is 4000 miles. I have lost a massive amount of money on Germany boxes over the years, 50% value in 3 years. It’s a no brained, jump on board as prices have softened however don’t wait long as they are rare and they will go up again.

I agree with everything you say. I was thinking of getting a new Mercedes to substitute my current Merc CLS, but ended up getting a low-mileage Ferrari 348 instead, the last of the analogue Ferraris. It cost me less than the new Merc, three years later it's worth more than I paid for it, no road tax, super cheap insurance, and - yes - cheaper maintenance than the Merc. What's there not to love? (And I kept the old CLS for when I need practical transportation).

Undoubtedly one of the best looking GT's ever to turn a wheel with a soundtrack to die for but, as with most cars of the era, quite susceptible to rust. The SP had fearsome performance in it's day with fearsome fuel consumption to match. The word "Icon" is overused somewhat these days but an Interceptor is one. Take one anywhere in the world and people will recognise it. Same with the early Jaguar XJ series. Not many modern cars you can say that for with their jelly mold looks.

That brings back memories of a regular "tradition" for me as a Yank in the Pacific Northwest of the '70s/very early '80s. There used to be a local independent chain (4-5 stores at most) toy retailer here who regularly stocked a healthy supply of Corgi cars and trucks. Whenever we were out shopping at the local malls, I would plead with my late mother to stop in at the toy shop for "just a minute" to inspect for any changes in the inventory, which inevitably lasted well beyond what time limit she planned on 😆. Alas, I never did get any of those classic Corgi models I drooled over (aside from a single MG T-series replica later on in the mid-'80s), but those visits in themselves certainly made for and were of far happier times.

This is what Bentley should have been at that time. Bigass engine 2. in the front, 3. good craftmenship These were my responses 1. The Bentley had an engine in the front 2. that was near identical in size. 3. The Bentley was also crafted to a much higher standard. Let's see if you can manage that. One....Two.... Three. It's hilarious you mention search engines because that's clearly where you've got your information for cars you've probably never even actually seen. I own a 1975 Interceptor III and a Bentley T2. I also own a 1980 Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow II so am familiar with every aspect of all three. The T2 is not as quick but I have never found it to be lacking in performance especially when compared with cars of that era. Any increase in power would be problematic because the car just isn't capable of handling it even if, like mine, it has the HB handling kit fitted. The SY body has an enormous amount of flex, this is why these cars always show lead cracks that often developed immediately after sale. Additional power would just make the cracks worse. Interceptor's vary in terms of performance and the late ones had so much emission control equipment on a, by then, very detuned low compression engine. This is why Jensen changed from the 383 engine to the 440. As you love search engines you can check the gradual reduction in horsepower over production.

Another key reason why Jensen failed was because of the disastrous Jensen-Healey sports car, which unlike the Jensen Interceptor had a sophisticated but unreliable and complex Lotus engine (this same engine was fitted in the Eclat and Excel, and it helped give Lotus the "Lots of Trouble, Usually Serious" nickname) and was also badly built; furthermore, Jensen's last owner, Kjell Qvale, had more money than sense and failed to motivate the workforce properly.

A bit later when the boss went out to get spares said apprentice hopped behind the wheel and drove it round in a big horseshoe to a dead end not even half a mile. There was all old terraced houses but behind them was a new development witch is where he ended up after he turned round he straitened the old girl up and floored her, the black skid marks were 50 ft long not where he wheelspun but where he was trying to stop it.when the engine flexed the throttle linkage got wedged flat out on the bulkhead he proceeded to hit the gable end of a newly erected block of four garages destroyed the garages and the car, luckily he was ok,,,,,,till his boss got hold of him 😂The exact same thing happened to my mate in his I was in the car at the time he floored it off a set of lights she jammed flat out luckily he had the sense to turn the ignition off and saved the day.

@@Suprahampton The 360..sorry to hear that, a really smogged out motor..Not chrysler's best, but can be rebuilt with higher compression pistons and the 340 GT cam and they're pretty good. Learned that from a friend with a dodge truck. In the later 90's Jeep used a tuned 360 in the grand cherokee that was pretty strong. I did see a documentary of sorts showing that a firm had bought all that was left of the interceptor parts and everything else from the factory and was able to do anything from make parts to complete restorations at least.

Such a shame, what a name for a car. They are beautiful, loved them since their inception. Every single DeLorean cost the UK taxpayer £6000! When the average wage ... average in the UK was £7k. I was earning around £3k. Oh it's a smart car ... but silly French engine .. V6.

A good doner for the Jensen would be a modern Corvette , 6Lt Aluminium V8 500bhp. , trans axle, 6 SPEED BOX , Aluminium ind suspension F&R , etc and VERY CHEAP TO RUN, 30 MPG at 70 mph and cheap servicing costs,
