What most people seem to forget is that there is no mandatory pitstop during a race that has been declared wet, so it would not have made a difference anyway if the rules where changed. In a dry race of course it would make a difference.

When Max was young his dad stand in the middle of a rainy track. Max need to avoid him and find a better line to race. His dad randomly change his position on the track. And Max needs to adopt the variable condition. Thats one part why he is so good in the rain.

A red flag will reset the gaps between drivers. If you add a rule that the tire changes don't count/are not allowed, then the drivers who haven't pitted yet will be punished. Where before a red flag they might have dropped two or three positions, after they could go from first to last in one stop. The alternative is probably even less fair than the current rules

Not to mention that if there is an accident with a lot of debris on the track and some cars drive through on their way to the pits, that pitstop suddenly doesn't count or you can't change tires. The 'free' tire swap at a red flag is a safety measure. But you have seen the onboards just before the safetycar, Ocon and Max were driving on older tires with less grip, so there is also a risk for staying out and suddenly lose control of your car. Norris and Russel changed tires because during a safetycar you lose less time during a pitstop because the field drives slower. How is that fair? Are we at that point close the pit entry? If the Colopinto didn't crash behind the safetycar, Ocon and Max would be still old tires while Norris/Russel would be on new tires and have at that point an advantage. That is why there is a strategy team to figure out what is the best option at that moment. But Norris really wanted new tires even after his race engineer told him that Leclerc was stuck in traffic in P13.

It’s always the same. When the rules work your way you hear nothing. When they work against you you start crying. It’s very simple: Lando choked, max was hyped up.
@TraysonMartin
@TraysonMartin Ай бұрын
@@knowledgerules2813 I wouldn't say Max was hyped up, he literally went from P17 up to points contention is less than a lap, and worked his way further up before anyone pit. Ocon did the same, so did Gasly. Not to mention Max overtook Ocon, and then built a nearly 20 second gap. Not to mention the vast amounts of Fastest Laps he kept setting and breaking. That's not over hyping Max that's just facts. Lando did choke, but he also wanted to swap tires earlier than they actually did. Did the red flag help Max? Sure. Did he have potential to win the race even if it wasn't red flagged? Almost certainly he would've had a good shot at winning, considering how well he drove. Don't forget in 2016 Max went p16 to p3 on the same circuit in the same conditions. Wet weather is his specialty.

42:52 Actually matters. Lando said "simply lovely, huh?" in Zandvoort, Max's home race. For less than that, countries and reigns went to war. Checo had the nerve to say he was a WDC material after his two wins in 2023 and Max went full lionly predator on him in Miami with resentfulness about Monaco/2022. After Lando mockery on Max' catchphrase, besides the critics, the whole Red Bull situation and the RB car's shitification, do you think a man forged by trauma, struggle, simulations and hardcore training will leave it as a mere banter? Come on, guys. I'm not even a Verstappen shagger, but I recognize this reality: every driver who tried to ridicule (or almost kill) Verstappen, the dutch became a beast.

I honestly just think they’re giving all their energy towards George and why not? He’s a part of their future. I also think Lewis is just kind of tapped out. He’s not going to win WDC, or team constructors, he’s gone in like 3 races, so why even stress yourself.

Rain is the great equalizer. It does not matter if you have 50 hp less. It is about ability. What did the great Ayrton Senna say: You cannot pass 15 cars in the dry, but you can in the rain. And yes, the VSC waited for the swap between Oscar and Lando. Who was the steward? McLaren's third driver Johnny Herbert. The FIA should have paid stewards, from countries without drivers or fabricators/teams and therefor no national bias. Lance had indeed a brainfart, thinking he was going to play tennis, so... searching the gravel.
@2Fast4Mellow
@2Fast4Mellow Ай бұрын
Herbert is a steward. NOT a race director. About Lance, drivers can't see their grid spot and this is why there is no a yellow line where they should stop, add some rain and the difference between a road and a gravel trap can quickly fad away. No different than that Perez didn't notice and was not correctly placed on the grid, claiming it was a great start.

It wasn't rain, it was Johnny Herbert's, the stewards', McLarens and the FIAs tears. Such a dominating win despite them throwing everything but the kitchen sink at him (you know, no penalties for blatant rules breaches like the abandoned start or breaches of technical regulations in the case of Merc changing tyre pressures in parc fermé which are usually a slam-dunk racing penalty). Of course he was lucky with the rain, but there's being lucky and then there's being lucky, overtaking the entire field from 17th, setting 17 fastest laps and winning the race by a country mile in clearly only the 3rd fastest car on the grid. Why are we suddenly discussing rules that have been in place for like forever... just because Max won a race, or more importantly, Lando lost? Lando is no reason to suddenly start changing rules. it's already bad enough as it is with inconsistent decisions favouring Lando. Really pisses me off, this British BS.

Gents. Guenther is right about the maths of scoring. If Alpine are scoring points in 19th all the time, Let's say they scoring on average 2 points a race which say after 10 races is 20 points. Then Haas is scoring 9th/10th place points at an average of say 12 points a race which is 120 points. The team winning is racking up about 50 points a race because there has to be a gap in the points awarded so after 10 races it's 500. There will still be these major gaps and a race like Brazil will still change the narrative. I think giving points further down actually benefits the higher drivers more because they getting awarded more to provide for the gaps in between. So it isn't actually helping the smaller teams at all. Should also consider that if you want win, you have to be able to handle any situation because these things come up in races every year. Red Bull are consistently one of the teams that can keep their cool. That in itself is an achievement. In the past, Williams were a car that could perform in rain. I mean Stroll got a podium in a Williams in a wet race. lol. So it's all about how good teams can handle that different type of pressure. Alpine jumping to 6th is fair because when it counted most, they were able to handle it.

Which means it will affect his race and quali results. Taken from last race, there's a big difference between George and Lewis's car. The onboard video shows a lot. Not against George, but I'm pretty sure if George drives Lewis' car, he's going to crash at some point because it's so undriveable. This is not a kindergarten, you don't get a participation trophy just for finishing the race. You are suppose to be one of the 20 best drivers out there. Do you get extra money from your boss to make till the end of they day without accidents? Don't forget that it isn't that long ago that only the top 8 finishers got points and before that it was only the top 6. A GP point should be a special thing and not something that is handed out for just making it to the finish line. And how would you rate the sprint race? Why does a P8 get a point, but a P9 doesn't. The moment you start thinking like that, it never stops... It is fair that there is only a ceremony for the top 3? Why not a top 5, top 10 or all the drivers that finished the race... Alpine took risk by staying out and got rewarded. Without the crash of Colopinto there wouldn't been a red flag and Russel/Norris would have benefitted from pitting under the safetycar (13 seconds instead of 22 seconds) and new tires for the rolling restart while Alpine would be on old tires. Strategy is a big part of F1. Risk vs reward.

@@2Fast4Mellow The discussion was about giving ALL places points. In your example, 50-40-32-28-25-22-20-18-16-14-12-10-8-7-6-5-4-3-2-1, or something like that doesn't seem unreasonable. Now, ending 20 races on average around 17th place will give you around 20x4x2 drivers= 160 points. While ending 20 races around 11th place gives you 20x12x2drivers= 480 points. Which can't be made up in one or two lucky races. Not that I would like/prefer such a system, but that was Matt's point.

There is no mandatory tire change rule during a wet race. The 'free' pitstop refers to the time it takes to make the pitstop, but at that moment you should also not allow pitstops diring as VSC/SC period.

Lando tried to throw off the everybody likes Lando favorite streamer racer for the championship by becoming a man in his own vision being more tough and I think Max was holding back a bit to have a more exiting season, have more sponsors and more people watching. Max's next level does need to have the planets aligned but apart from that 19 others got the old lesson this weekend And Max has been pulling this off before on the same track passing almost the entire grid twice and still end up on the podium. That race he even took corners sideways with insane speeds Hands off the scoring system kids sheesh. Just like switching tires on a red flag. It's mostly safety and a gamble anyway. It's one of those social media bs projections for attention and in the end it's like Vettel's Verstappen rule to teach Max a lesson against weaving too much on braking into corners too much while defending and the first race it's implemented Max beats Vettel with his own fugging Verstappen rule. This was when F1 was maxiumum boring and rule politics only when Max joined in. This was many years ago before you got your pants wet on F1. There's a great hidden history lesson to be learned on this around the racing politics trap. Now Max gambled correctly, tomorrow it will be someone else. The unpredictable is what makes F1 great. The idea it's broken and needs fixing is what lives rent free in your brains LOL

20:18 Guenther calls you out! Now I must say I'm an absolute Max hater, so for me the Brazilian GP was terrible.... i didn't enjoy one second of it. HOWEVER, the past 2 Red Flags podcasts have been painful in how much you both are suddenly huuuge Max Verstappen fans. "The best F1 race that you've ever watched".... Really?! Gushing over fucking Max. Then Guenther calls you out.... Suddenly your confidence in Max is sky high. Lando is so shit. Max will keep on winning as long as he has an ok car. I usually love your content, but the last 2 videos were crap.

If you don‘t allow them to change tyres then people that didn‘t pit beforehand have a huge disadvantage, but now it‘s not a gamble of undercut, but a gamble of do I make it into the pits before the red flag comes, which is just way worse. You have to keep it the way it is, or implement a million case distinctions to properly account for every condition that should and shouldn‘t allow for tyre swaps. Keeping it simple is obviously way better and there you only have the choice of either allow them to change them, or not. Not changing is massively more unfair than changing.

The red flag talk make me laugh. It doesn't matter what way you're going with the red flag rules, other those who have pitted or those who haven't are going to get disadvantaged. There's no way to not have someone disadvantaged so why not leave it with the safer decision.

Had to chime back in. Lance does not nor will he ever have that championship driver something special. Even if he wanted it, he’s not that good. I’m positive he binned it in the gravel trap as a foot-stomping childish fit. He didn’t want to be there and was going to show daddy just how much. Lewis has been vastly let down by Merc for the last 3 years. Holding my breath for next year. Embarrassing end to the 7(8) time Champion that did so much for Merc. Just like when they ran Montana out for Young. They could’ve waited one more year and paid proper homage to Joe but nope bye.
