My reference point for sandalwood is Mysore Sandalwood in vintage Samsara. I felt that the sandalwood in Santal Pao Rosa was different and similar to Commodity Book and Santal 33. Unfortunately, it comes off with dill-like facets on my skin. Thank you for bringing to my attention that it's Australian Sandalwood potentially that gives this effect. Aside from this particular bit, I just love this perfume. It just may not be for me, although I'm going to give it another try another time. Thanks for your review!

Thanks. I have been testing it for a few weeks . I don't get the similarity to santal royal . I get lots of cardamom in the opening. Saw dusty dry sandalwood that becomes slightly coconutty on fabric as it dries. . Hints of sweetness from fig. Just some wafts of rose. Some rubbery myrrh. It has become a top 3 from the L'art line along with bois d'armenie and iris torrefie. Really good .

I like that old school lemony spongy sandalwood from the past. It is such a calming and serene note to me and puts me in a very relaxed mood. There is honestly nothing in guerlains new line i will be buying other than spirtuse double vanille.. but i need a deal.. i wont be paying Guerlains new retail prices. Do you sense any synthetic sandalwood like javanol or ebenol? Or is it well blended in that regard? I might just buy santal royal instead of santal pao rosa. We appreciate you Eugene! Cheers 🍻🐏

I was looking for a perfume that suits my personality and type… today I tried this for the first time after trying 30 more fragrances in advance, and suddenly the way I expressed myself after first try…omg that was never happen before….it was like I found myself in every drop of that perfume

Thanks, Sir. Glad to see a review that mirrors my own experience. Fragrantica is full of quick first impressions that don’t catch the essence of this awesomely beautiful scent. It does open up and get creamy and warm spicy. Just fantastic. Just got a full bottle.

I'm really glad I found your review here. Thank you so much. I've been very interested in this perfume and can't find anyone to sell a decant of it. Sadly I don’t have a store anywhere close to be able to smell it myself. I love Cardamom and Incense in my perfumes. So it sounds like I might really like it. Still trying to figure out what actual Oud smells like. I have a few Oud perfumes but I can’t put my finger quite on it to be able to really recognize it on my own. I’m still learning.. Thanks again! I just bought a candle from Alvarez Gomez Agua de Colonia Concentrado. It's called cinnamon and sandalwood. It's the best sandalwood I've ever smelled, milky and creamy and not woody and spicy. That candle is like 30yrs old.

It's funny you say how they hide the classics because when I went to smell some Guerlain classics for the first time here at a store they were literally hidden in a closed cupboard in a corner under the make up. The only thing on display were the arts and materials and some l'homme ideal stuff.

The first blast of cardamom got me. I have to finish my 10 ml miniature to wrap my head around buying it or not because I own more dill-like sandalwoods. I can't detect any fig neither 🤷‍♀️ rose comes through and I think it takes down the harshness of the opening. Ughh my money!

Specific blotters printed with names of the fragrances are nothing special. Both CHANEL and Dior have done so. The price point is a big turn-off, tbh. How much are the brands going to keep raising the price tag and how willing are we as customers willing to pay for scented water, I wonder...

Im well aware about Chanel and Dior labeling their blotters the point being Guerlain has never done so with classic pieces and by doing so with this collection holds them to a higher standard.

@@usmellsgood For the price Guerlain is charging, they can bet their perfumed a$$es people will hold this collection to a very high standard. Guerlain produces specific blotters for this collection but not for the classics because the classics are humbly priced for peasants :)
