This was simply outstanding to watch. His explanation of the visceral process of creating a scent was really transformative in how I perceive scents. It is so easy to smell something and be immediately dismissive of it without taking into account everything he stated regarding the artistic and laborious process in bringing that fragrance to market. What a terrific video professor.

Thierry Wasser is an absolute legend. Filling the shoes of Jean Paul Guerlain would have been an impossible feat for most, and he not only did as much but kept the artistry and beauty in the line. How could you listen to this man speak and not be romantic about fragrances?
@accesstotheredcarpet26 күн бұрын
Mr. Wasser is right, the emotional experience is what really connects the wearer. Chanel does the same thing at their boutique service. They have you blind sample fragrances without knowing what it is. Then when the future client pick what stands out the most that they respond to. That ultimately determines the selection for the wearer. The result can be quite surprising without knowing the notes beforehand. Personal experience is vital because it’s so subjective and individualized connection and taste. Such a fascinating video. Thank you!

What a wonderful interview! I adore Thierry Wasser’s creations and the way he describes the craft is similar to Mathilde Laurent. Fragrances evokes a feeling and that emotional response is what I love most. You wear the fragrance, the fragrance does not wear you. Thank you for such a pleasurable experience listening to a Man whose ethos centres around the beauty of creation ♥️

What a lovely man. I so very much enjoyed this conversation. I could sit and listen to his wisdom all day. Fragrance is so much more than just a smell - for me it’s an experience, creativity, and aromatherapy. Perfume brings me joy, peace and contentment. I passed an elderly lady in the supermarket a few weeks ago, who just smelled amazing. So I stopped her and asked her fragrance - Shalimar! We had a lovely chat in the aisle. I’ve bought a bottle as my Christmas present to myself.

This is incredible ❤️❤️❤️ I could spend days listening to his stories. And if people could listen to these stories, they would know the VALUE in buying from these honored houses that have the history and devotion to their products. Imitation is the highest form of flattery, and if you are the best, you are always a target. Dupes are rarely better and do cut into market share, but at the same time, i know so many of us who are DEVOTED to a house and demand a higher level FROM that house and for that, that house is their love for LIFE. The dupes may just be a short lived fad as theirb consumers' noses develop and they begin to requires more from a fragrance. I do love the occasional inspired-by fragrances for the fragrances I can't get enough of, especially when i don't want to break my gorgeous bottles and need to throw something in a car glovebox or a suitcase, but i will always have that special place on my shelf for the original and it's next flanker :) I've been learning to decant my beautiful fragrances into atomizers for trips and travel, so buying the original (over cheaper versions) have increased over time, not declined :) majority of the people will come around again from fads. Listen, some houses i collect the whole line just because of the variety, but also because the bottles are collectibles to me. My grandmother collected AVON fragrances in these figurine bottles that were my favorite and was promised to get them from her, and once she passed, the family shredded her possessions every which way. So i do have a love for a pretty bottle too. 😊 Guerlain bottles - let me just say, one day I will own Limited Edition L'Art & La Matiere The Perfumer's Set, just because they are the most beautiful matched set - I can't stand it ❤️❤️ and MUST HAVE them all. 😊 It's more than the fragrance with GUERLAIN it's the experience, the history, the house made Madagascar Vanilla, and the bottles are all part of that emotional connection I have to GUERLAIN. I wouldn't worry about the dupes too much :)

Thank you Steven, what a wonderful interview. Mr. Wasser is brilliant! He’s right, we should experience perfume without preconceived notions about what notes it may have. I think we’re all guilty of that. When he broke it down to what it takes to make one bottle and all the people involved and what dupes do to the industry, that was important. I never have and never would buy a dupe which sadly permeates social media. I remember when I really started learning about Guerlain was about 30 years ago when I flew to Budapest. A Santa gave me a mini bottle that I still have of Chamade, 😊

I was unfortunately unable to see him on his annual visit earlier this month to New York this month at Saks. Thierry is the ultimate embodiment of a gentleman. As much as I love the art.. and science.. if fragrance, and I feel the poetry of Mr. Wasser's passion for his industry comes from a genuine place of love. Interesting conversation on dupes for sure, I wish to high heaven I had a spare $600 laying around, because Vanilla Planifolia Extrait was love at first sniff. I frequently spend for decants of the real thing to get these experiences and emotions. On the other hand, I also recently spent $35 to try a Dua version of that scent, because I would love to have that experience in my daily life, and don't want to feel guilty for being less than affluent. My fragrant soul is torn lol

One of the best conversations I have ever seen. Gerlain one of the best perfume houses, with many iconic perfumes, and a niche house within the commercial sector. It's a shame that they have made some of their classics worse with the current reformulations, ifra? or costs? The private line has some very good ones, in my opinion, but it lacks a totem like a vanille tobacco, promise, an aventus, a perfume that creates a trend. But above all, very interesting conversation.

Kudos for this wonderfull interview and massive respect and adoration for the amazing maison of Guerlain as well as the fine gentelman and great designer mr.Wasser ! And just my aspect and experience about the oh so abrasive topic of clones, well personally 🤔I've never needed to look into clones for any of the Guerlains I use, but admitedly if some clone house revives or does in some way better job than the original, than why not ?!? Looking at you YSL !!! 🧐 Brief and limited availability of the Bleu Electrique and somewhat anemic performance had me getting the Nashama Caprice. Well, its like getting a 500 +hp V8 for quarter or less of the price than a 300hp V6. It just pulls effortlessly, torque is immense, overtaking, long distance cruising, top speed etc. It does it all. So go figure it. Yeah the package and bottle are bit tacky, but who cares if the juice is rocking in every aspect. And this is from someone that really doesent have issue with paying premium prices if the performance is there. Now we just need Lattafa or the likes,to come out with clones of the La Rive Gauche line with as good as or better performance as with the Caprice, and we are onto something.🥳 Oh, and while we are at it, lets do Body Kuros and revive few other of its flankers as well. 😉🫡😎 My appologies for steering astray so back to the amazing brand in the video. Well, by some coincidence my sotd has been Habit Rouge Parfum.😊 Absolute stunner and I really need to extend a wholehearted appreciation and love to the amazing Delphine for this creation. Just Bravo! For the rest of the night I'll go for something darker with the new Boss Bottled Absolu . Cheers to all. p.s I already decided that tommorows sotd will be appreciation to this maison and Thierry, so def it'll be the stunning L'Homme Idéal L'Intense ! 😊😉

There is not a right and a wrong way to enjoy perfumery. Sometimes we fragheads like to break a perfume apart to its components because a certain material or accord calls to us, but it's housed with another material that rubs us wrong for whatever reason (causes us personal distress due to memory association or other reason, a feeling of disgust, annoying, headache, etc.). Some of us embrace perfumery enough to not cast the entire perfume aside, appreciating it, but wanting to find something closer to what will cause those emotions to be evoked, unencumbered. So yes, there is a time and a place to enjoy a fragrance sniffing excursion. However, we must also take into account that many people across the world do not have access to luxury stores in Dubai. Many of your viewers, and even Thierry's followers, are enjoying their fragrance unveilings at home, through samples they've purchased. Their local malls don't carry Guerlain - at all. Their entire state or country doesn't carry Guerlain. Let's not try to change the terminology. A "dupe" is a perfume that doesn't claim to be made by the original company. Dupe companies have their own packaging, their own flacon, their own name. They are very clear on what they are. A "fake" is deceptive towards the customer itself. It's a total fabrication and lie. They are two very different things. I do thank you for this interview. Thierry is a story teller, and I think his question to you is very provocative and worth considering. You handled it well, and you're always the epitome of class and professionalism. Thank you for your channel, for your work, and your passion, Steven.

I'm just getting into perfumery as a customer. I'm trying to learn about this art. And it is an art and for me I don't like dupes and yes it's a fake with no personality. I want the real thing. Clones, dupes or whatever you want to call them is a stolen identity and I don't respect that. I did purchase one dupe in my history of perfumes. I said to myself nope not again. I have about 16 colognes from the house name brands. It is disrespectful to take somebody elses creatation

In an ideal world, it would all be as he said. But when we know the surcharge from the big niche and designers brands that add to their products, it becomes more about the profit, than the sentiment. So the dupe market picked on that and filled in the spot for humans who want to enjoy nice scents, which should be within everyone’s reach. Or is it an elitist right only? Don’t hate the players, hate the game.
