Hero Hudson? Aaaw, that’s nice. Always loved Bill Paxton in this, but wanted Hudson to have more of a redemption. About time.

The stack mechanic is very good, and really illustrates the horde mentality of the xenomorph hive.

Imagine if they gave Hudson a flamer from the beginning. Game over man! (for the Xenomorphs)

I like how this game really recreates the sense of the Marines laying down a wall of file; like the scene outside the Med Bay in Aliens. "You want some?! You want some?!"

Some important notes: Hicks may draw a card, he isn't required to. Defensive fire is only used on Aliens that come into contact with a character. Before the attack, all characters within 4 spaces get to shoot. It isn't like an Overwatch, where any time an Alien moves, characters within 4 spaces away get to shoot, like you were doing. When you fired the flamethrower the first time, you would have hit Hicks as well. It has a max range of 2, and hits every square around the target square. Hicks would have been killed on a 7 or less too, with no save. If Hudson had moved one space further, he could have targeted the back square and only hit the Aliens. Blips move d6 squares, not 6 like Alien models do. Flamethrowers cannot be used in Defensive Fire because they have the Cumbersome rule. Hudson would only be able to use a pistol or shotgun for Defensive Fire if he had one. Newt would only Recycle 3 per Rest, not 4, because she is a Grunt unless Ripley is played as a Hero.

Good eye! I was wondering about those items too. Forgot about cumbersome! Makes the game a bit harder.

This comment needs to be pinned to the top or something. This playthrough, while appreciated, is LOADED with gross errors. You did not mention movement around corners is wrong here. The spaces are considered connected if a thin white line joins them. If you look at the boards the thicker white lines block the corners meeting with the required thin white lines. Ergo you move around corners orthogonally. Edit: He also never rotates dials down when performing defensive fire. Again, loaded with sooooo many errors. Edit 2: Error 1003; blips are placed directly on spawn points then additional blips are placed as close to the spawn point as possible.

Just got this game and stumbled across your channel trying to understand some of the mechanics. I’ve now binge-watched 3 of your episodes! Great stuff my man, keep it up.

Ooh very dramatic! That was an excellent rescue mission - looking forward to seeing you play (and paint!) the expansions over the coming weeks.

Also you don’t get defensive fire until the alien is directly adjacent to a character. You were firing on the alien turn as they rounded the corner in turn 2.

Another cool Aliens run there Ash! I recently painted the expansions and have some tips on the power loader. It's easier to paint in sub assemblies. I built the body and dry fit Ripley to glue legs in correct alignment. Then pulled Ripley back out. Then painted the separate components before final assembly and touch up. Allowed me to get the details I wanted much easier.

Yeah I had that same thought about the stacks under the xenomorph model. At least regarding movement I didnt think about that hallway issue in Space Hulk, but now I wonder how that mechanic would effect gameplay in SH.
@euansmith36993 жыл бұрын
It would make the lfamer and grenades more deadly, I guess.

Lol I was more insinuating I'd like to see that sort of homebrew rule set played out maybe in comparison to the old rules. Just to see the effect of rules and model management mechanics on gameplay. I dont have the cash to get all these games but seeing how mechanics work is very entertaining and working with proxies/game components I do have, new ideas and thoughts on how they could be implemented come to mind.

enjoying the play through series, but I think you need to review the auto fire rule for smartguns and pulse rifle, and also the conditions that trigger covering fire during Alien move phase. I think that the way you are playing - the disadvantage of not using auto fire and the cover fire on sight rather when the Alien engages with a player, weirdly sort of balances out not being overrun :) However- you are burning through cards faster than you’re meant to; especially with the smart gun. Also blip tokens are supposed to move on a D6 roll.

I believe the rules say you roll an alien die to determine how far blips move. You were moving them 6 spaces like a revealed alien. Am I wrong?

I’m also 42 years old and still have nightmares about this movie. I was way too young to watch the Alien chestburster scene (1st grade). Thanks dad!

Great contents as always but I thought blips moved d6
@MentatOfDune3 жыл бұрын
Yep. Roll d6 for aliens speed that turn. Think not rolling makes it more difficult for Ash but then again does it stop Aliens forming big clumps further back? Haven't played enough to answer that but the overall experience hasn't changed much I think. Tbh, I don't know how Ash plays all these games and gets the rules anywhere near correct. No way I could do it.

Hah, yes. I see what you mean... looks like it’s holding Ripley’s gun. 😂👍 Also, the one standing to the left of Ripley, looks like it’s just pushed her over by tipping up her base... 😧
@samlam45983 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the great video, Ash! You seem to have a lot of fun with this game. It's been in my wishlist for a while now. The base game is CAD 75$ at least; is it worth it? Coming from Gloomhaven and it's ton of content, I feel like other board games ask a lot of money for not much content... Your thoughts?
@House-Atreides3 жыл бұрын
I just bought and I’d say it’s a moderate content purchase. Can’t beat the price of models. I happen to have built a ton of 40k catwalks which double great as Alien corridors. Great way to convert this into real terrain and make this a true 3d tabletop experience! 1”=1square.
