This a great game that deserves more coverage. There are limitless ideas and iterations for this system and it is highly adaptable. Please consider adding more battle reports in the future!

I love the variety on this channel. I started watching when you were apparently literally in a basement with your buddy, Jay. You had maybe 52 followers. You've been rollin' hard and fast for years now, and it's really rather amazing. You sincerely and simply make some of the best content out there. You keep makin' cool stuff, and we'll keep watching.

I used Pulp Alley for my annual Halloween game 2 years ago. The leagues were: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Ghostbusters, X-Men, Batman and Friends, and the Scooby Gang. You really can do anything with the perk system. :-) I ran it as a competitive game with each Reward card gained also adding a narrative clue that something odd was going on at the old abandoned church in the middle of the table. When the 4th card was earned it signaled midnight and the conclusion of the eldritch ritual that was going on in the building. The rest of the game was co-operative against the Cthulhu cult and the beast they had summoned (using the Horror deck supplement). None of the players had played before yet by Turn 3 they were running the game themselves with me just answering edge questions (like what happens in multiple combats, etc). Oh, I also used the "social warfare" rule -- I forget what it was called. But basically it forbids you from using Fight/Shoot and allows combat by Cunning and Finesse. This is the only game I know of that you can take a figure out by inflicting "social damage" by being more witty than they are! Last thing - I'd love to see a Vice Alley campaign someday! Thanks for adding this game to your repertoire!

Great review, Ash. For a moment there I thought this was Crooked Dice's 17TV Pulp. I'm guessing Crooked Dice must've drawn some inspiration from these set of rules. Never heard of Pulp Alley before until now so thanks for bringing light to such an influential game.
@housecaldwell3 жыл бұрын
I thought this, too, when I first started looking at the rules. But, the games are pretty different, especially in the combat mechanisms. They're both great for pulp play, but if I had to choose one I'd go with Pulp Alley simply because I'm not always in the mood for the "you're actually filming a movie" trope that 7TV uses. (Full disclosure: I backed 7TV Pulp KS and the current Pulp Alley KS. So I really do like them both!)
@Agastui3 жыл бұрын
@@housecaldwell Yeah, I see what you mean about the combat. I'm definitely interested in learning these rules more. It feels flexible enough to fit into just about any genre.

Is it just me, or does this game seem overly complicated? I like the idea of it, and would love to be convinced otherwise, but it seems over engineered. Am I wrong? Hope so, I love the idea of it, not quite sold - yet!

Hi Adrian, we have a free Pulp Alley Quick Start guide available if you'd like to check it out for yourself. With Pulp Alley, I tried very hard to give it detail in the "right" places and avoid the stuff that bog games down -- such as counting/spending Action Points, excessive Modifiers, the use of Charts, and so on. I think you will find that the gameplay is very fluid and dynamic. And while you will have many options the resolution is normally very clear and intuitive. I hope you give it a try and let me know if you have questions. Have fun is Rule #1.
@adrians21903 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the reply. Sold! I'll get the starter set. Thank you for your reply, very much appreciated. Good luck.

It’s actually a pretty elegant unified system which doesn’t require special case rules for every little thing. There are a some special rules but they are almost all summarized on cards. It’s much more about flow and card play than crunch and army min maxing.
@warrenbruhn58883 жыл бұрын
Only time it gets complicated is when trying to remember too many special abilities that aren't simply added to the character dice, i.e., some text to remember, and too many cards in hand. I often put hand size limits on the fortune cards and try not to build leagues with too many abilities that require remembering text. But if one was to play the same leagues over and over, more of the abilities would be memorized.
